I'm Currently Feeling: | I have recently been to see specialists with regard to recurring UTIs (have had almost forty in the past two years) and, whilst going through all of the various tests that I had to have I spoke to the urologist about trying to conceive.
I was told that I needed to go on a lifelong course of antibiotics in order to keep the infections at bay but I would have to cease taking them if I was attempting to conceive.
There is another type of antibiotic you can get if you ARE trying to conceive which is okay to use if you are trying for a baby. it is a single dose that you take after sex to reduce chance of getting infection or to deal with one you already have lurking. You can speak to your doctor about that if that is what you need.
If this is just a one off infection you will be given a three day dose of antibiotic which will rid you of infection. I am unsure whether or not this is harmful when trying to conceive but, again, that is something you would have to ask doctor. I was told by Urologist that the antibiotics that are short term/one shot are not harmful when attempting to get pregnant. I do know that the three day dose does affect birth control pill though and you are advised, if not actively seeking to get pregnant, to wear a condom for seven days after taking the pills.
So, I guess, in short, there are treatments you can get that are not harmful to baby. | | | | Status: Offline

I'm Currently Feeling: | i would speak to your doctor. but i no when my mum caught with my youngest brother it was while she was taking antibiotics, and they had cancelled her pill???? whoooppps the doctor told her there was a chance something could be wrong and he recommened she had termination. they said it can cause britel bone but lucky my 15 year old brother is as healthy as they come. also had a friend that was taking antibiotics before she knew she was preg it turned out she was 17 week when she found out. and been on the antibiotics for 4 weeks. little bab bab was born at 35 weeks. and he had kidney and bladder probs and did not make it. so an alternative would be a good idea. |

| I'm going to post here after all, rather than start a new thread.
I am on CD11 and still waiting for ovulation, although I O'd on CD9/10 last cycle, so could be I missed it.
Am working nights at the moment and last night developed cystitis (UTI) that showed blood in my urine. I contacted my doctor today who has prescribed 100mg MACRODANTIN (NITROFURANTOIN) x 28 (ONE four times a day for 7 days) to clear up the infection.
He knows we are ttc and has recommended we 'take care' whilst I am on them, which means no BD for a week. I am so disappointed as we were really on track this month. Of course I'm now concerned that we could still be successful with all the effort we've already put in and it's too late to undo that.
I've checked out the antibiotic on line and of course spoken to my doctor, who has chosen it considering we are ttc. It is prescribed to many pregnant women for UTI's and is class B medication, but I can't help wondering and worrying.
Anyone have any comments or knowledge that's positive to make me feel better? |
