temping question - help!

So this month I've been tracking my cm and temping for the first time. I didn't get any ewm but my temperature tracking indicated that I had ovulated on day 18 of my cycle (had 3 consequtive days of significantly higher temperatures).

So yesterday morning my temperature was 36.98 which was the highest it's been (but I took it later than normal). Normally my high temperatures are around 36.5 etc.

I decided to take my temperature at night just before going to bed to see what it was (curiosity) and it was 36.19. That seems very low. If I've ovulated shouldn't my temperature remain high throughout the day?

Confused! Please help!

your body temp changes throughout the day to adjust to its environment- in order to get a sufficient BBT you should test first thing in the morning WITHOUT getting out of bed at the same time everyday- for instance, i set my alarm for 7am and put the thermometer by my bedside. I know its a nusience, but in order to get an aqurate temp it has to be done. Testing in the afternoon and at night bares no relation to your chart and this will only confuse you.
There shoud be a temp dip on day of Ov followed by a temp rise the following days to indicate OV. A few dips here and there are normal. If your BBT stays elevated AFTER ov then there is a good chance you could be preg. Hope this clears things up for you hunny . mwah xxxxxx

So it still means I've ovulated even if my temperature in the evening is way lower than my temperature in the mornings before I ovulated? I thought the bbt was the lowest first thing in the morning? This is why I'm getting confused.

So if my temperature in the morning was 36.56, I would expect it not to get any lower than this throughout day as this is my resting temperature.

ooh no it can get lower and higher throughout the day if you have ov'd or not- because its your bodies way of adjusting to the environment its around- you are comparing your morning temp, the afternoons temps are in a world of their own!!! As long as tomorrow mornings temp has gone up- it is a sign of ovulation, dont worry at all about afternoon temps they go up and down like anything trust me!!!!!! And plus- you can Ov at any time of the day so it can get lower in the evening, but if you did ov in the evening, a higher temp first thing in the morning will indicate this.

Ok I think I understand! Thanks for your patience and help.

So even in the days after ovulation, your temperature during the day can be lower than your bbt before ovulation because they are not connected!

basically- the reason they do this first thing in the morning is because your body needs to cool down or up to its normal temperature depending on whats going on inside the body- and when you sleep you do very very minimal activity, and therefore your body temp goes to its norm depending on how it feels (ill, virus, ovulation, pregnancy etc etc) in the afternoon your body has adapted its self to the environment around it (its all ecology stuff quite difficult to explain) and therefore not at its true temperature- i used to train as a nurse, and before we used to do the 'obs' on patients (blood pressure, pulse, respiration rate and temps) we used to make them sit still for half an hour to get their body to go back to normal as much as possible before testing so if there body temp is higher than it should be resting then it could indicate an illness- so its all about resting temps. Please continue to temp in morning only to avoid confusion!!!! no im happy to help you hunny, any time xxxxx
