Driving myself batty

This is going to be a bit of a monster post, but please bear with me.

I've been TTC for 5 months, and before that always had a regular 35 day cycle, even coming off BCP two years ago.

The last five months have gone thusly:

June - Normal 35 days
August - Week late
September - Week late
October - 10 days late

And now...well

I went to the docs because I was certain there was something wrong with me seeing as my cycles are now all over the place, but she didn't seem concerned, told me to go for a smear (nurse said everything looked normal down there) and a blood test (still trying to find time to do that - I work shifts). However, I thought I O'd on the 15/16th of this month. When I felt those little O pains, I could have cried. I missed the O pains the last four months. AF was due 29th of November. I was working the nightshift just before and I had the typical spots, sore bbs, cramps, everything annoys me etc etc (yes I'm a moody cow when AF is due) and I remember thinking "Ok, I'm a bit disappointed but if AF comes when it's due then at least I'm back on track and I can just keep an eye on it for a bit the TTC again" But alas, now is obviously 4 days after that, no sign of AF, only symptoms I have are sore bbs still.

I tested the day after AF was due and got a BFN (not surprisingly, I didn't use FMU and had drunk copious amounts of tea). Now I'm terrified to test again as if I get another BFN, I'll feel like something is seriously wrong with me.

I hate sounding all depressed about this, but I'm at my wits end with it. I've tried all the usual things that make AF come (BDing, hinting that I'm preg, doing a test) and nothing, so after thinking about it for a couple of days, I've decided that I should post here. OH is a great and wonderful man, but I don't think he quite understands what it's like to worry that something is not right after so many years of it all being regular if you know what I mean. He also has issues talking about this kind of stuff so it makes me feel very lonely when this is happening every month.

I'll be quiet again now and go back to my lurking!

Baby dust to all!

Hi,

I'm also in a similar situation to you. My cylcles are all over the place and I need to get tests done again but can't seem to find the time to do it, as I have started a new job and they are funny about taking time off etc. I have also a test in Jan when I can't have AF , and because my cycles are messed up it think now it's going to coincide. Just have to go with it for the time being. Have you tried acupuncture. I had it about 6 months sgo for a few months and my cycle was at 28 exactly which is very far from the 37 days which it is at the moment! Still waiting for AF!!

i think to have a cycle that is spot on every month must be nice, so far since coming off pill in Sept i've had one 36 days, one 26 days and now i'm still waiting for AF to show currently on CD29 this month, its a nightmare knowing when you are ovulating without using the predictor kits, which i havn't started to use yet. I felt ill on and off about a week ago but now them signs seem to have gone, even the back ache, keep getting twinges of cramps but nothing. Keep testing every other day and get BFN which is dissappointing when AF hasn't shown. Gonna sit it out and see what happens. If AF hasn't shown by next week i'm going back to drs

god yeah that is worrying, have you done any pg tests?
We didn't stop taking the pill till after the wedding in case we got pregnant and my dress wouldn't fit!!, wish we had now you hear so many stories about how long the pill takes to get out of your system, how long was you on it for? i was on it 11 years so i suppose it'll take a while to re-adjust. I can't even remember what AF's were like before the pill

Hi there,

I'm by no means an expert and have only just come of my POP and had my first AF, so have no idea what will happen to my cycles. Used to be as regular as clockwork, but we'll see.

I do know that stress plays havoc with your natural cycle AND that many people are very irregular indeed.

Acupuncture is something I would consider if this happened to me. I have had it for a knee injury and it was brilliant. The other thing I have already considered is to start I am going to try the ovulation test strips, but if I can't determine when I ovulate, then I will invest in a digital ovulation monitor as they seem to be quite popular with speedy results.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to all the girls who have replied...it's really nice to know I'm not totally alone in stressing about AF being irregular.

I think we are going to test again tomorrow morning if AF doesn't show today.

i've taken to testing every other day since being late in the vain hope i'm just not showing enough of the chemical for previous tests to show BFP. i've read other threads where women have been 10-20days late before BFP showed which gives me hope.

it can take a year or longer for a healthy woman with no problems to get pregnant. You should test again though
