Low BBT - anyone diagosed with hypothyroidism

I was just wondering if anyone with low BBT has been diagnosed with hypothyroidism?

My temps are well below the normal range according to Thyroid UK. I am going to go to the GP and request a test as my luteal phase is also only 10 days. Just wondering if anyone has any advice?

I'm hypothyroid and have been for years. One thing you need to realise is Drs here are ultra conservative about diagnosing an underactive thyroid. If you just go with a low temp they probably will ignore it to be honest. Do you have any other symptoms? If so I'd go in stating those and leave the low temp till last or describe it as feeling cold all the time. That way you'll get your blood test. Good luck.

Thanks Jolinar,

Thanks for replying.

I don't feel cold all the time, but don't understand why my temps are so low. They are really really low. I do feel tired a lot of the time, have put on some weight, loss of libido, lack of concentration etc.

How would you recommend me approaching the GP to get a test?

I think I'd go in along the lines of you've not been feeling well, list symptoms, point out any cycle irregularities and say you'd like to get it resolved as you're trying to conceive and obviously want to be in the best possible health to do that. It might be worth taking your chart along too to show them.

Although that said your temps are much higher than mine and I still managed to conceive mine varied between 36-36.8 when I bothered temping. Still it would be worth checking things out especially with the 10 day luteal phase?

Oh one other thing, some ladies have had great success with Vitamin B complex tablets to help lengthen luteal phases. There is a thread on this board if you search for it

Thanks Jolinar,

I appreciate it. I am taking B50 complex and it seemed to lengthen my LP by 1 day last month so fingers crossed for this month.

Congrats on your pregnancy!
