Should I tell my doctor I am TTC?

Do you have to tell your doctor that you are TTC?
What if it takes ages to conceive and you havent told them and then they dont believe you that you have been trying for over a year or something.
Just been thinking about this and wondering whether I should go and tell them I am TTC and get a general health checkup or something???
What do you think?
Have all of you told your doctors you are TTC?
This is only my 4th month of TTC.
Thanks ladies, any replies would be most appreciated!!

I think it probably makes sense to tell them whenever you are next at an appointment - that way if they think they need to raise anything (such as immunisations, getting your next smear etc) you can discuss it. However, I don't think you are under any obligation to tell them.

I've got an appointment tomorrow and one of the things I want to mention is that we are intending to start TTC in Sep/Oct... will let you know what they say to me.

Thanks ladies.

I have had a few medical problems in the past and never though of going to see a doc until now. Might book myself an appointment for sometime this week or next, whenever I have a free moment.

I have never had a smear test, do you think it would be wise if I had one? I am nearly 22!

I didn't bother to tell my doctor. I have my yearly checkup at about the 6 months of trying mark, so if I don't get a BFP before then I'll bring it up. I've got my FF charts to show them if they want proof of trying.

Thats the thing. I dont have routine appointments here in the UK. You just tend to go to the docs when there is something wrong. So havent been in a while.
Also I dont use FF or anything like that. Only OPK's which I do save... so maybe I should keep hold of them
Its all getting me worried now in case there is a problem in the future, which I am convinced there will be (I dunno why, Im just very pessimistic)!
I think I am going to have to book an appointment.... even if its just to put my mind at rest.

I think you should definetly get a smear! my doctor advised me to get one as soon as I was sexually active, and then every year after that- been getting them since I was 14, slightly uncomfortable to start with but its worth it! I just don't want to get caught in the late stages of some sinister disease! (not meaning to scare you!) I have also told my doctor I'm ttc, he was very helpful and told me what I should be taking/avoiding etc. good luck ttc hun!

I was going to change my pill so was going to the docs anyway then talked with my finacè and decided to stop it altogether and start ttc...so i went to the app anyway and told him i was going to start ttc...he only advised me to eat healthy, take folic acid etc etc...but i did find that it was helpful now its 11 months later and im not having periods...as he has it in my notes that i mentioned about ttc...so instead of making me wait he knew i was being truthful about trying for nearly 12 months- think its the only reason i got bloods taken on friday just passed!

so personally, why not..cant hurt?!

hope that helps u with deciding hun! xxxxxxxx

I told mine. She was really happy for me, I am 43, wasn't sure if I was going to get a doom and gloom lecture, but not at all! Its our 7th cycle now so me and OH will obviously go and see her in a couple of months (due to my age), if nothing has happened and see if anything is up or anything that we can do.

I mentioned it in passing when I went to get my last repeat prescription for the pill as my doctor had mentioned about the possibility of me coming off the pill and having the injection or implant. I mentioned these were not really the route I wanted to go down as we were thinking of TTC over the next few months and I didn’t want anything that long lasting contraception wise.

He didn’t say anything (he never does). Ok so I haven’t been and told him that I am actively TTC now and I won’t bother unless I have to go and see him for something else. I certainly am not making a special appointment to just tell him that. I am taking a pre-pregnancy vitamin, eating healthily, exercising and not drinking so other than that I don’t see what he can tell me.

I have it all written in my diary anyway so if it came to it and nothing has happened in 6 months or so then I could always take that in with me.

If you are that worried about getting it marked down in your notes then make an appointment to go in for a general health check up and tell him then.
