You should start taking prenatal vitamins as soon as you start TTC...you can by them over the counter or get a prescription from your doctor

Multi vitamins are fine, but pre-natals are better because it has higher amounts of important stuff like folic acid. But some ladies will take a multi vitamin and supplement with folic acid.

I'm taking a prenatal multi-vit. That's ok. I'm not sure why a multi-vitamin would say not to take them, unless there's a high iron content...and not even sure about that!

You definitely want to be taking folic acid, either as a supplement or as part of a prenatal vitamin.

Pregnacare is good - it is for when you are ttc and when you are pregnant. A bit pricey though, about £4.99 for a month's supply. It has all the vitamins you need in it (unless, you have to top on particular ones - for example, I took an extra 50mg of vitamin B6 from two days after ovulation onwards).

I took a prenatal multi-vitamin. Multi-vitamins that aren't prenatal (like women's vitamin's) could harm your baby even before you know you are pregnant.
