is anyone else ttc after the depo provera?

hi all just wondered if there is anyone else who was on the depo and not ttc? i am really confused at the moment and could do with some encouraging words from anyone who might be in the same situation?
i was on it for just over 9 years and had my last one in may 08
since then i have had 3 af and i thought id got my 28 day cycle back but my last af arrived on 1st april for 4-5 days and not had anything since.
felt really rough since and thought i was having pg symptoms but now think it may be period related plus maybe a bug of somesort? i have done a few hpt just incase and the were all negative. so this looks like ive gone back to square 1!
i wondered if there is anything i can do to help get these back nd to help me conceive?
im not sure even if im ovulating or not, i have like a O pain but how else do you know and how do you use the predictor kits?
many thanks

Hi
I'm afraid I can't really be much use, but just to say that I had depo but was only on it for 3 injections - this is my experience. My last injection was in April last year. It took 6 months to even see a sign of a period. In October I finally got a period, but then had many very short cycles until the New Year. Just as I thought I might have a problem, they became more regular and have now had 3 - 4 normal periods of 24-28 days. This month I have started to take my temperature and I've found it has really helped me see what is going on with my body. As I'm TTC my first I don't even know I can get pregnant, although all the signs suggest I am ovulating. I used the ovulation kits from CD8 every day to try and catch ovulation that way (which I did). So, even though I was only on it 9 months it seems to have sufficiantly affected my body for almost a year! Maybe it will take your body a little longer to adjust as you've been on it for some years? I hope things settle down for you soon.

thanks for your reply, i guess its just a case of carrying on waiting!
i havent got any children yet either so i have no idea if i am able to conceive or not yet so fingers crossed that i can, i am just a bit worried as i have read that some people do really struggle after the depo. why cant they tell you all this before you have any shots?

Hey wannabeamom.

I was on depo for 5 years, and came off it in May 2008. I got my periods back in August.
I fell preggo on my December cycle last year, but sadly MC... so am back TTC.

My body seemed to bounce back fairly quickly, and although my cycles were slightly erratic, they were monthly. I used fertilaid to get them back into sync, although I hear that agnus catus (sp.?!) is pretty good at regularising cycles.

I don't know what the buggers can't give us the correct info., I was never told about the effects to fertility... so was seething when I wanted to start TTC.

Hi
Sounds like you've come back on track like me (last injection a month before your last one). Mine also vary by about 4 days (24-28 day cycles) and the only way I'll know for sure when I ovulate is to use opk and record temperatures. Since being more aware I also realise I get ovulation pains too. I'm just glad I've got my periods back. When I spoke to the doctors they did say just to give it time and they should come back to being more regular - which they have (at one point I only had 14 days between bleeds!). Its been so long since not being on contraceptives, I have no idea whether I would have regular periods or not. If you're worried it won't do any harm in speaking to the doctor

I was on depo for about 3 yrs and stopped taking it about 2003.
It took about a year for my periods to return and I've gone from having a period every 3 months to insanely long ridiculously heavy periods. My body now seems to be returning to normal - last two periods were 8 days long and cycles were 25-28 days. Big woohoo for me now as it's been hard to bd at all let alone ttc.
I think the majority of women who have used depo feel that it messes up their bodies - but fingers crossed for you that your cycles return to normal quickly.
