At what point do you seek help?

If you are trying to conceive and nothing is happening, at what point do you go see your doctor to discuss it?

Thanks for any input.

Hi Flora,

Sorry it is taking a while, I know how frustrating it is!!

I think I read that a lot of Docs tell you you to try for a year before they do anything. I think the statistics are that 25% women fall in the first cycle of trying, 60% fall within 6 cycles and 80-90% in 12 cycles (I might have got that a little wrong but that is the gist of it!). You have only been trying 6 months so I don't think you have anything to worry about. You could always make an app with the doc to have a chat and put your mind at rest though - it won't do any harm!!

Sending you lots of and

Hi Sambo,

Thanks for your reply and kind words.

I've read those figures too, but sometimes you just need to be reminded by people who understand how it feels.

My other half and I both turn 35 next month. I think I read somewhere that if you're under 35, wait a year of trying before seeking help, but if you're over 35 you should see your doctor after 6 months.

On the other hand I'm finding it all a bit stressful (aren't we all?). The don't want to add to the stress with loads of tests & being prodded around by doctors.

Does anyone know what actually happens if you go to see your GP about conception?

I'm going to give it til October, then I'll seek help. That will have been 10 months of trying using the EWCM/temp taking technique, and they say you 'should' fall within six months if you try that method.

I will tell the doc I've been trying for a year, though. My friend , who had years of fertility treatment and finally got her baby last year, said the NHS is great, but where issues of fertility are concerend, needs speeding up a bit.

Hey Girls
I am on my 7th cycle of TTC #1.. I was on BC 12years before stopping in Sept but been pretty much trying since! I have had 6 cycles so far and NOTHING!

I have been to the docs who did some blood tests everything ok! I am off to thr gyno next month tho about my long cycles as there 45days normally which is quite long and i have given the BC enough time to leave my system!

I know how you feel its so hard, especially when some women get caught straight away the first month and you think "WHY" am i not! Well its all about timing and if you have varied cycles every month like me, that timing is hard to figure out!! I mean i must have sex every other day normally but then sometimes when i try to figure out when i ovulate i do think that could be the day where we didnt have nookie!! Its so hard.. I mean the women with good cycles every month the same its pretty much good to time the sex..

All i can say is hang in there girls, if you wanna see the doc then make that appointment i see no harm in saying you have been trying like 10months and saying you would like to be referred or some ovulation tests to be made!!

I am sorry girls, i know how u feel, i am feeling bit down.. i thought this month i be taking the laid back approach no opks, no CM or CP checking which i havent done yet but i must admit its hard!! Each month i try not to symton spot as i wouldnt even know wot they are like as each month my symtons change!!

Good luck girls.. BABY dust to us all
xxxx

DH and i have been trying for 3 years now, with 3 m/c along the way, we went down the route to the drs and IVF but were refused, in the uk you have to be 23 for IVF treatment so theres not much they can do until then, so we have to just wait until im 23 and start the long waiting list for IVF again x

hya you should wait at least 12 months before contacting the doctor but if you are over 35 then go see the doctor after 6 months
usually if you are under the age of 35 the doctor will tell you to keep
and see what happens and if after a total of 18 months you are still getting then they will refer you to a fertility specialist
at the fertility clinic they will carry out fertility checks such as blood tests to check whether you are ovulating etc... and check for infections and carry out sperm tests for the male

we had been ttc for 3 years when we consulted our doctor i left it far to long and should of gone sooner but because i was so young i didnt think they would take me seriously but the doctor referred me straight away and i had all of the investigations etc... within 4 months and i was put on fertility tablets (unfortunately did not work) and now after 6 years of ttc i am on the waiting list for ivf (i have been on the list for 14 months)
hope that helps x x
