Newbie here and need some advice please!

Hi Everyone,
Newbie here and need some advice please!

I have been with my partner for over 2yrs, he has a 13yr old son and knows that I would love children but he keeps putting it off saying one day!! I am 34 and cant stop these feelings anymore and the thought of getting pregnant and having a baby fills me with so much excitement soooooooooooooooooooooo 3 weeks ago I took myself off the pill which I have been on for 19yrs and if it happens it happens as it's what I really want and I know my partner will be supportive about it if it did happen.

So here is where I need some advice please - can being on the pill for so long cause problems conceiving and what do I expect?
Also I have had chronic asthma and lung disease for 32yrs and have taken steriods for this long, will this cause any problems conceiving etc.

I would normally get the advice from my doctor but thought i'd ask you guys first!

Cheers everyone sorry this is a long post!!
Loving the site by the way!!
Helen xxx

Hi welcome to BnB! Here is what information i have gathered so far. Some say the first few months of being off the pill is when you are most fertile... others say it can take up to a year after coming off the pill. I think if your not waiting on it it will happen sooner rather than later.
I have been on the pill for 10 years and this is my 2nd month ttc so i am hoping it happens for me soon.
My Aunt was on the pill for 20 years, she came off it aged 37 and she conceived on her 6th cycle.
Good luck x

Hi - yeah, I agree with Chloe, the pill affects people in different ways, you might get lucky straight away, might take a bit longer. Only thing to bear in mind is that it might take your body a while to adjust to not being on the pill, don't be too upset it if doesn't happen straight away.

Not sure about the other medication - you might be best to ask your doc though as there might be some different supplements you should take to help. I think general advice is that you should take folic acid when TTC, it helps prevent birth defects and promotes healthy cell growth (I think) so I'd go and get that straight away and ask doc about anything else.

Good luck x

I stopped BC in September was on it for 12years, this is my 6th cycle at TTC#1 and i still not gotten pregnant!

My periods are bit up the wall and change every cycle so really hard to guess when i am ovulating they range from 35 to 45 days..

I am soooooooo wanting a baby but its so annoying every cycle when it doesnt happen!

Folic Acid Question?

Hi All,

I have a question about Folic Acid - How long should I take folic acid for?
If I start taking it now and don't fall pregnant for a while is that ok and how long after I fall pregant do I keep taking it?

Many Thanks

That one completely depends on your health requirements. Thats one you need to ask your GP.

I had been on the pill for 12 years when i stopped to TTC. It took 45 days before i got my first real period. But after that ive been having regular cycles. Its worse if youve been on the implant or been having depro injections. But becuase on the pill your body is used to regular bleeds (even if your not ovulating), your body gets back on track much faster.
As to being more fertile after stopping the pill, its a bit of a old wives tale. Its just that more often then not people fall pregnant easyly.

Good luck!

Third month now, currently in 2ww. Not sure if my body is working as it should or not given I'm not temping or using ov tests or anything, just hoping that it happens by getting lots of practice in mid cycle!

In answer to the folic acid question, it helps with new cell development, and it is recommended that anyone who is in the first trimester, or ttc at all, take a supplement to help baby develop properly. I not seen anything that implies it might hurt you if you carry on taking it for a long time, but you might want to check that it doesn't affect your other medication.
