Red Bush (rooibus) tea

Hi all!

My preggers mate is drinking Red Bush tea from South Africa at the moment. I tried some and it is really nice, it has a bit of a smokey smell to it but tastes really close to real tea (a bit more of a sharper taste to it).

The tea is supposed to be really good for you - no caffeine and antitoxidants (or whatever you call them ). This might be an option for those, like me, who are tea wives but want to cut out caffeine when they are ttc. Possibly also for those who are preggers - I don't know if Redbush has any negative effects on pregnancy - does anyone know? - but certainly my pregnant mate is drinking it and she is really clued up on what she can and can't eat and drink during pregnancy.

Good luck with those BFPs!

I've never heard of it but its worth a try. I'm a real tea lover too. Any idea where to get it?

You can buy it in the normal supermarket - Twinings make a good version of it.

Oooh, thanks for that Poppy. The worse thing about TTC for me is cutting down on my tea so I'll look that up next time I go shopping!

Hi there,

I am from South Africa and that is where Rooi Bos (red bush tea) is manufactured, it has no negative implications for pregnant women, and as you mentioned with the low caffeine it is ideal to drink during pregnany for your tea kick.

It also has other herbal aspects, the tea has shown to improve eczema, either as a tea bath or dapped on to spots with cotton wool. be carefull of tea baths because the tea can stain, so the latter would be better suited, currently used on my niece who has eczema, she also drinks it black with no sugar, as the tea is sweeter than normal, and she loves it, she just turned 2.

I've been drinking Rooibos tea my whole life, my grandmother, my mother, my sisters, cousins, aunts and friends have all drank Rooibos throughout multiple pregnancies, and there have been no problems through the generations. So on personal experience I would give the opinion that it is safe to drink whilst pregnant, or not...

Hope this helps.

xx

Tetley's do one as well. I noticed the ad on a pack in the cupboard this morning funny enough! When I read the pack, I thought "I must tell the girls on B & B"!!!!!

Oooo I might have to try that, I'm a big tea adict but not keen on the funny taste of some herbal teas, I also like it nice and sweet so if I can cut down on the sugar that would be great!
I also get a dermititis on my fingers so I could try it on that too.

Thanks for the info!!
