Urine sample - sent off to lab?

Good evening all,

Was wondering does anyone know how a lab tests a urine sample differently from how a home pregnancy test works??Or do they just use the same method (dip test etc?).As in when a doctor requests for a urine sample to be sent off to the lab for testing. Thanks un advance x

thats very odd. I think theres only one type of urine test and theres nothing a lab could do different if its just a urine pregnancy test!! Are you going that route because you want doc confirmation?

Its a long story really but last time I went the doctors my normal doc wasnt in so I had to see another basically she fobbed me off ( I made a topic about it too lol),well she must have made a note on the computer as I went to see my doctor today and before I had chance to mention it he did.He asked if I was still in the same predicament - i.e no period (3rd month now) and various other symptoms and I explain that yes I was and that I had done some more tests and got faint result plus 2 clear positives on Tescos own brand tests - but then went on to get faint results on other tests, but if I was pregnant the test line should definately be obvious by now.But he agrees things dont add up and has asked for me to take a urine sample in to be sent off for testing instead of him using the tests they have there (they use the cassette ones).I said I was going to ask for a blood test as I am going crazy not knowing but he reckons if the urine test comes back 'inconclusive' then he will request a blood test .
Sorry for the rambling on ,hope you get the jist of where Im comming from .We have only been at this doctors 6 months and they operate really strangely ,at least im getting some progress as last time the doctor was useless. Not once have they asked to examine me either which I find odd.My doctor did say that if I was pregnant then I would have to change one of my medications as they do not know yet if its safe to be used during pregnancy as its still a fairly new drug.Thats got me worried now too!x

i always thought that docs asking for wee to send to labs for preg test was odd to as with my son and my daughter when i went for doc confirmation they asked for wee and sent it away but always told me to call in 7 days for results, so surely if they just used dip stick tests like we do wouldnt the results come bk quicker than 7 days? i only had my daughter 14 months ago so this was still happening in my doc surgery up until recently, when i had what i think was a chemical pregnancy i went to docs for test but remember thinking it pointless coz i was bleeding and couldnt wait a week for the results but she had the NHS hHPT tests in her office so things may have changed there now, wierd though i would actually like to know now what they actually do!!!
