Does Anyone Know Of The Guidelines For Prescribing Clomid Privately?

Hi

I am trying to find out if its possible for me to be prescribed clomid privately given my circumstances.

Gp thought I had PCOS last year after years of hormone style probs. They arranged for bloods which came back as normal. I wanted to pursue it further so asked for private consultation to an endocrinologist {hormone specialist} he retested me for pcos but the tests have to be done on certain days in ur cycle - result was i was disgnosed with pcos. At the time I wasnt TTC and was more concerned about my weight. I was prescribed metformin and transferred back to NHS for management of this condition.

After a couple of weeks on metformin I fell pregnant but sadly m/c early after a few weeks. Since then my cycles are irregular but periods have become very light and barely last 2 days. I have been charting temps etc but never get a precise ov detection or prediction.

Saw GP about this as am feeling very down about all this, as i thought they cant now prescribe clomid as i fell pregnant in dec despite the fact i miscarried. I have to wait a full 12 months before I can have any NHS help. I asked if I could try 3 or 6 months and pay privately but was refused saying the guidelines are the same. I ve left messages to check this at private clinics but due to time doubt will here back this evening.

I feel really down, the doctor who i saw today dismissed everything, told me i may only ovulate once a year but that doesnt matter as I wouldnt want ten children would i???!!! , she also said I may never have proper periods or cycles again and was actually told to "just chill out" and one day I would have a baby, I told her how emotional I was about it all and she told me to take up Tai Chi ............. I wanted to hit her and how I never lost it I dont know.

I came out of there feeling awful, Im wanting to know if she was correct about me being prescribed the drug privately or not so if anyone knows please reply

Thanks all xx

Depending on how much your willing to pay, i think you can pay privately to be prescribed clomid, arrange an appointment with a private gynae/obstrician as well and see what is said xxxxx

If i were to guess i would say it is probably an issue of doctoral ethics. It is true that twelve months is the typical length before a specialist will c u. 6 months if u r over 35. Ethically she cant give u fertility drugs until your twelve month mark. I think this is in place to keep people from trying to take the easy road out. But i would think with pcos and a mc. U should be able to get some help. Keep trying 4 answers! Lots of luck and baby dust!

Thanks Mrs MaBrEy - I can understand why I cannot have them on NHS prescription but thought given my circumstances paying for treatment would be possible yet the doc told me I wouldnt get them prescribed privately which is what im trying to ascertain at the moment. They just frustrate me so much at times x
