I had my third miscarriage in 2005 and was absolutely devastated by it. It has taken me over 2 and a half years to feel ready to try again.

Just as we have started trying, my Employer has decided to have a Departmental Restructure and is insisting I do a job which I consider to be dangerous and which would put me at risk. I have explained to my Director that my husband and I are trying for a baby again and that I have lost 3 pregnancies in the past and I have asked for them to consider me for a less stressful area because of the risks.

He has just said that they do risk assessments for pregnant women and has dismissed me saying that the company are acting reasonably.

I pointed out that they did not do a risk assessment last time I was pregnant and I lost the baby, but he wasn't interested.

My GP has signed me off work with work-related stress but i just don't see how this is going to be resolved. I have spoken to the Health & safety Executive and have been provided with legislation to quote but my employer just isn't interested and my union have done nothing to help either.

Wow...That doesnt sound good at all. I dont know if I can offer advice because Im not sure of the laws in the UK. Im just suprised your Union isnt helping....Good Luck

Awwww Hun, I am so sorry, I really hope things get sorted out for you soon.
Would finding another job while your off work help?.
I am not sure if that is something you want or is even available.

Babe what they are doing is wrong you need to give your union rep a kick up the arse
I'm not sure how you stand when TTC with a job but risk assement must Deff be done when PG and records kept of when it was done etc...
If it wasn't done before as you say your manager could be in deep s***
Deffo get on to union ASAP

Im not sure what to auggest about the job. Can you not find another job if things cant be resolved where you are?

Its bad that you even have to consider looking elsewhere though....

I've thought about changing jobs but in order to qualify for the same maternity leave and pay I'd have to put off trying for a while to establish my 'rights' in another organisation. At nearly 36, I'm really conscious that time isn't on my side and besides, my job is very specialist so I'd have to travel a lot further to do the same sort of work, as my employer is the only one of it's type in the area. Bit of a catch 22 situation which is why I feel so down and frustrated.

My friend at work has left a message for someone higher up in the Union to get in touch and we are appealing to the Chief executive to listen to my case. I guess I should at least be thankful that I have some very supportive work colleagues who are trying to help me sort this out.

I've just been on the Govt website and set up a petition. Hopefully they will approve it and put on their website.

Petition states "We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to place a duty on employers to carry out a risk assessment for women trying to conceive"
