Medication when ttc

How serious do you think it would be if you took medication that said 'do not take if pregnant' if you happened to be in the early stages of pregnancy without realising?

Depends on the meds. Most of my research says that is just a precaution and lawsuit prevention. But if u r really worried try www.webmd.com be sure u put in the correct med name and dosage. It will tell u why the medication says that and if it indeed is just a precaution. Good luck 4 a bfp!

It totally depends on the meds you are taking I totally agree that most meds put that in their instructions to prevent lawsuits... you are best having a chat with your doc.

I have that issue at the moment - I am on lithium for bipolar disorder. Lithium has been linked to certain heart defects so I am coming off it and I have to do it slowly. One of my docs wanted me to stay on it but to me that was not a risk worth taking.

In regards to meds like antidepressants - these have not been found to affect pregnancy but they do like the mother to come off them (very slowly) towards the end of the pregnancy because the baby can experience serotonin withdrawal when they are born.

Hope that helps a little

Totally depends on what the drug is, what dose you're taking it in, and why you're taking it. Can you tell us what it is? For absolute peace of mind, I would talk to a pharmacist - and I mean the proper pharmacist at your local pharmacy, not just the girl who works behind the counter at Boots. (No disrespect to the people who work behind the counter at Boots, but on this occasion you need qualified, professional advice.)

It's a sachet of powder for cystitis. I tastes fowl but it does the trick and I have some in the cupboard.

Ooooh poor you - cystitis is horrible As for taking the powder, without knowing the specifics of it (there are loads of different varieties available), I wouldn't like to say. You could try phoning your local pharmacy though, or even NHS Direct. Good luck

Hi twinklebunny. My advice would be to read any leaflet with the medcation, I found out that mine will harm the baby and be in my breast milk if I carry on taking it. It also said to go to the doctor for further advice. Tell them you're TTC and they should be able to give you advice or maybe change your medication. Good luck hun. Xx
