Anyone got any tips on keeping a nearly 3 year old awake on a car journey

As the title says really.

Chloe goes to my mother in laws on a Monday and Tuesday, I can't pick her up until 5.30pm when I finish work, the journey is about 20 minutes, as soon as we are in the car she is usually asleep, I try singing, talking to her, playing games but nothing keeps her awake.

Once we get home and I get her out the car, I try and wake her up, it takes about 5 minutes but she does eventually wake up [not very happily of course]
but then it effects her going to bed. She won't go at 7.30pm as she usually does as shes just not tired, Monday it was 9.00pm and then I have to wake her at 7.00am to get in the car and go back to nanas and shes clearly still knackered.

I was thinking about a DVD player but not sure if thats a good idea or not?

ANy tips greatly appreaciated - roll on maternity leave when all I have to do is walk her to nursery 3 days a weeek

Hey,

If i need to keep Skye awake or entertained for a little while i have her my ipod and she will either watch a little peppa pig,
but mostly there is a puzzle game app,

I think its called tozzle..and she loves it!! it is 69p but well worth it! and has animal/word/number puzzles i think like 50 something in all.

Goodluck! xx
