I worked in a day nursery for a year and I'm afraid it is usually the policy. I doubt you would get your money back to be honest. The MMR is a serious immunisation and it would be safe for them and in their best interests to be at home with you. The nursery has to protect themselves aswell as the kiddies x

Sorry but I tend to disagree. My nursery was fine after Katie had her injection (even though she only goes once a week). It's not as if it's contagious and the twins hadn't any symptoms. It's ridiculous, even more so if they hadn't told you in writing.

MMR is a live vaccine, it can shed and get kids sick that have not yet had their own MMR shot...that's probably why they don't allow them in after that

In the 3 nurseries i have worked in, that was the policy. Not every single nursery is the same.

I also disagree, this is not usually the policy at all and I pay them by cheque weekly so if I want my money back I will be getting it back. Or I will take my money elsewhere!

It is not clearly stated anywhere at the nursery and none of their key workers or staff informed me of this when the children move up rooms.

Also, its not just the MMR it is any vaccination at this said nursery.

The MMR is no different to the swine flu, its a live vaccine and symptoms dont usually come out until a week later if the child gets any!

It is a live vaccine that is true but it doesnt 'shed' I asked my nurse about it and I have also read up about it and children are allowed to go to nursery/ school with it as symptoms dont usually develop for a week and its usually a low fever, which may I add my nursery lets kids in with!!! Im in UK, policies are completely different!

Were you given a contract full of the nurseries policies and procedures? If not, you can use this as it is NOT your fault as you weren't even given a copy!
