1st b'day ideas!

It's coming up to my little ones 1st birthday and as this is my first time i'm looking for ideas. The b'day is actually on a wednesday so would you have a little party the weekend before or after? also i know at this age it's more for the adults but what kind of food would you do and did you play games etc. And suggestions would be great!

I think it can get a bit overwhelming for babies if there's too many people there and also, when they're so little it can get a bit boring! Like games are fairly impossible for them, unless you have lots of older kids coming?

I don't think the wkend you do it matters really, whatever suits you!

When it was Ally's bday he opened his pressies with me and my Mum then went out with his Dad. His bday was a wednesday too! And then on the friday we had 5 of his baby friends and their Mum's round then. We had cake and just played with toys. Then on the sunday we went round to my parents and my sister and her husband and newborn came over and we had a nice lunch

It was Byron's birthday last Saturday. We visited lots of DH's family over the weekend but didn't really have a party. We are having his party at home this Sunday. We are doing veg sticks and those organix finger foods for the babies and the usual stuff for older people. We are getting balloons but no other party things. We're going to put out all our play mats and some toys for the babies.

For presents we haven't bought much. We gave some for his birthday and are saving the rest for Chistmas. He's got so much from others that there wasn't much point getting him loads from us too. Presents he is enjoying include a wooden Noah's ark with magnetic animals; a fisher price toy that blows things round with air (dunno its name); a helium balloon (!); wooden race car; v-tech phonics bus (this is great as he can do music with it now and allsorts of learning when he's older); books he likes: Spot's birthday, is it bedtime Wibbley Pig, that's the way I love you, guess how much I love you, gallop. Just a sample there!
