Tantrums over food

She won't eat. She just WON'T eat. I put her in her highchair and she screeches blue murder, throws everything down, and pitches a fit until I take her out. She's still surviving off of bottles mainly, she eats very limitedly. I tried to cut some bottles out to make her hungry for solid food and its an even worse situation. She ate so well until about 10 months, now she won't touch solid food anymore. She won't take purees anymore either, she just isn't interested in eating. All she'll eat (when she does eat) is avocado, toast, pasta, and cheese. Everything else goes on the floor. Someone told me she's probably just showing me she's in control of something, but...advice?!?

All kids go throught the "No eating " stage. Dec has been through it several times. As long as she is happy and is eating something and having fluids then I wouldnt worry at all. My Doc told me there is truth in the old saying "they wont starve themselves, they will eat when they are hungry". Some days Dec lives of yogurts and other days he will stuff himself. Dont make an issue out of it, just be like if you want to eat you can if not then thats okay to, believe me she will start to eat again. I know it is hard seeing them not eat but if you make an issue with it then you could make the matter worse. Good Luck xx

i agree with sabbym try not to make a big deal of it, offer food that whe like and if she doesn eat it then, just leave it. They are often too active at the moment to be interested in food.

Some children also get sick of highchairs around this age, as they become more aware of the fact that Mum gets to sit at the table. Perhaps try sitting at a little table with her, or getting one of the booster seats that clip onto normal chairs, allowing hr to eat at the big table

I am having similar problems! I think my LO just doesn't like being in his high chair! Think I am going to get him a little table and chair... anything worth a try! He is so independent at the mo and just so active it is hard to get him to stay still to eat! Good Luck!!!

Thanks. I think I might buy one of those booster chairs and see if she likes that better

Claire's starting to really hate being in her high chair too. She strained and screeched so much last night that I ended up holding her in my lap. Once she was out she was more interested in what I was feeding her.

I know my nephew is in the same boat, he's just not interested. My SIL's doctor told her the same thing as the others mentioned, its impossible for them to starve themselves. They'll eat when they're hungry. Although I imagine its nervewracking!

Molly has just started doing this too! It's difficult to think they are going hungry but it is true, they wont stave themselves. I think we just have to ride it out x
