Caroline - my son started nusery i Sept he was off all last week with a cold and ear infection, he went back today and two teachers are off and all the kids were coughing on each other my daughter does not have much interaction with kids but I'm sure whatever my son picks up she will too, so difficult! He is having a pre school booster next Monday so I am going to discuss it with the GP see what he says.
My OH works in London all week only home on a weekend and I am A SAHM, what do you think? x x

Paula I'd be swayed more towards vaccinating your 3 year old, if your 10 month old has little contact then I may be more cautious, and wait b4 vaccinating.

Only my opinion obviously, and the final decision is yours.

I've been really worrying about this too.

There have been increased case in Switzerland and they are now offering the vaccine to everyone. Last week at the paeditricians I asked what he would do, and he just said he really couldn't tell me one way or the other as he only had 9 days experience himself! He is normally someone who has strong views on things and will say "if she were my child I would xyz".

Someone just posted something on one of our Swiss parenting forums saying all the nasty stuff that's in the vaccine, don't know if true or not.

We don't have that much contact with other people, only go to baby group twice per week, but DH is a pilot and obviously airports are hotspots so I'm worried about what he's going to bring home!

My youngest is 21 months and we are currently going to no groups but her sister is at a small school and there are confirmed cases. My hubby works at 3 different Oil & Gas Operator's offices so chances are one of them are going to bring it home if that wasn't the flu they had 2 weeks ago. I wish I could get daughter tested to see if it was Swine Flu they had but wouldn't put her through getting blood taken!

Faerie

I looked on the WHO website tonight and there are the components of the vaccine and explains about safety of them etc, I think I would trust them more about what's in it.

Don't quote me on this I am no expert but as far as I am aware a blood test can show if there are antibodies in the system for H1N1 which would show that they have been exposed to the virus. Not sure how willing a doctor/nurse would be to do this though! Maybe best to ask your surgery if its possible.

Just thought I would update you all. After throwing a wobbly last night about what to do I managed to phone home and speak to my Health Visitor in Scotland who was very reassuring that I was doing the right thing vaccinating kids, I had pretty much decided anyway I wanted them done but there is always that doubt in the back of your mind. I think healthy kids or not you just dont know how it will affect them if they catch it and my fear is greater of them catching SF than the vaccine.

So this afternoon I got my 21 month old done. She cried for all of 10 seconds and has been fine so far. Although it took a few hours for my sore arm to develop!

Caroline, hope you got on OK today with your kids.

I've just had mine done. Hoping the arm won't get too sore, as sore arm & crutches don't mix.

MY 5 yr old had hers, but not my eldest, paediatrician is looking into how safe it is for him, so now waiting to see what he says.

My 5 yr old has to go back in a month for a second jab. Apparently under 10's need 2. I did read this, then read they said only need 1. Oh well we'll just have to wait & see.
