Speech at 16+ months

Grace is loud as far as toddlers go. But I'm worried that she doesn't say enough. She knows a lot of stuff, like if I say to her "Can you pass X to mummy?" she can go and find it and bring it to me. She can say basic things like hiya, mama, baba/baby, gaga (grandad) and nana. She also sings row row row, baa baa, and 'eee i ee i o' lol anything else is her own made up language or something she is trying to say. Like I said she is bright in that she knows what everything is, she can point it out or look for it, she knows how to make the noises of animals ans she can point to pretty much any body part you ask her too. I try and teach her more words but sometimes she just prefers to make noise! Should I worry about her lack of vocab?

I wouldnt doll, she has plenty of time and she knows what you are talking about!

Daisy has gone quiet, she used to say a whole load of words and it's like she just cant be arsed anymore and just babbles away to herself!

Honestly it will all come soon, and you wont be able to keep her quiet!

I know how you feel! Brayden, SO's son (not sure if I'm supposed to call him my stepson if we're not married yet just live together??), is 29 months and doesn't like to talk. He'll say things like Bo (for SO and SO's father), yes, no, and he's just started to say cheese. He knows what we're saying because we ask him to throw something in the garbage and he promptly goes and throws it away. Etc... He doesn't talk other than those few words though and it kind of worries us. My Uncle & Aunt (who works with children who have speech problems in kindergarten & grade 1 classes where she also helps to teach) said that he should be speaking more than he and we need to be encouraging it, which we are but he doesn't want to talk. It's hard because I don't exactly know what it's like for Brayden when he's home with his mom but he never wants to go home to her (which probably doesn't mean much).

She is far better than tom, and he is very very closely monitered by therepists and is ahead for his age. He just says yes and no, dada, nana, cat and the odd word he copies from me. He can point to eyes nose and ears.

I wouldn't worry about it at 16 months. My boy is almost 4 and sees a speech therapist. I started worrying about him when he was about 2 and a half because i couldn't understand what he was saying. He can't say certain letters but we just work with him and try to get him to say the letters alot so he gets more practice.

Also, i have recently found out that he has a slight ear problem, he can't fully hear out one ear, which is a huge thing when learning to talk! Mabey you should get the wee one's ears checked out and see if this is the issue!!
