But the MMR doesn't have thiomersal in it?? Only a few of the childhood vaccines have it see here http://www.immunisation.nhs.uk/files/thiomersalfsht.pdf

I'm having real trouble over the MMR. My daughter had the jabs seperately and I wanted the same for my son but when I rang the clinic that did my daughter's, I was told about the mumps vaccine shortage. I didn't want him unvaccinated so have opted for the MMR now but after reading what some of you say about links with children with allergies, I'm worried again. My son had cow's milk and soya protein allergy you see, so now I'm torn again x

When my son was due his mmr it was 7 years ago now, & they were still putting thiomersal in all the vaccines. Now I'm not saying there is a link but personally I feel happier given my kids mmr vaccine knowing that all the other vaccines are mercury free now.

ANdrew Wakefield the dr who did the initial report questioning the safety of mmr has recently been discredited & struck off.

I can understand your worries completely Jem, how good/ sympathetic is u r GP/practice nurse/health visitor to discuss it with?

They're just very MMR and made me feel awful for not having the MMR the other week. He had the pneumoccoccal jab but I said I wanted to have the MMR seperately to which they were very funny and said that the measles vaccine isn't available and that I'd be leaving him unprotected as it's rife at the moment. I rang the clinic I used for my daughter's jabs and they said that it's the mumps vaccine that's unavailable not measles so why they said that I don't know. I'm just so torn x

Unless someone produces mumps vaccine then U really don't have much choice. If your lil man contracts mumps once he's gone thru puberty there is a hughe risk of leaving him infertile.

U could go single vaccines & hope someone will produce a single mumps vaccine, but if they don't then he'll need 2 lots of mmr to protect him.

Andrew Wakefield who produce the report linking mmr to autism & bowel disease is up in court today being prosecuted for bringing the medical profession into disrepute.

AJ had his MMR yesterday.
To me the benefits outweigh the risks. When we first came home from hospital I had a fab HV and we sat for ages discuusing the MMR and we decided then AJ would be having it.
He's a bit grumpy and tearful but he's also teething. Poor baby.

Hi,
Jem, my LO has dairy and egg allergys and the nurse [when we went for Swine flu] told me that she would put me in touch with a dr to discuss any potential reactions / worries I have etc regarding MMR. We might have to go to a clinic in a hospital so she can be monitored in case she does react. I guess that we won't be offered an option of having single jabs but I feel better that I should be able to speak to someone about this beforehand.
I'm guessing you have mentioned your LO's allergys already. Are they not taking these into account?
