The manufacturer is no longer producing single shots. They were suppose to start production again in 2011 but has recently decided against doing that. My son is due for the MMR but I am going to delay it.

Its the mumps vaccine they've stopped producing. Were supposed to re-start production but as of yet they haven't. Not such an issue for lil girls, but a must have for a lil man.

No, it's all of the components. Merck is the manufacturer. They only make the full MMR. They were suppose to start reproduction in 2011 but decided to not do that.

The official word from Merck is that they need to devote all of the manufacturing capabilities to the full MMR and Chickenpox. They also state that the demand for the separate vaccines is so low that it doesn’t justify its production. One news story stated that the separate components only make up about 2% of the total MMR demand.

I wish you were right, but No, it was not just the mumps discountinued. It was ALL of the separate shots . You are just reading what a distributer wrote in regards to the mumps.

Read this

http://askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook/

Not only that but the pediatrician for my daughter even confirmed all of the shots were discontinued.

If you go to the mercks website, it will tell you what vaccines are available, as far as the measles, mumps, rubelle, only the MMR is available.

Did the website you went to discuss having the separate Measles and rubella shot? If so, then they have not updated their information. The only correct information can be obtained from the actual manufacturer which is Merck. Can you post a link where it says the measles and rubella is available? I posted a link that shows they are discontinued.

edited to add for snowqueen: I read on dr sears site that they might start production again. I know they weren't going to but I think a lot of people are complaining. What are you (did you) do in regards to doing the MMR? I told my pediatrician I won't do the full MMR.

Earlier in 2009 they discontinued the mumps vaccines, measles & rubella were still available as my DD's had there rubella vaccine. Off the top of my head I can't think who the manufacture was for the measles & rubella, it could be pasteur. If anyone wants to look into these 2 as singles I can find out from the red books who manufacturer is to see if these are still available.

Right, but now they are all discountinued. From what I understand only Merck manufactured the three singles. Can you look up the 2 singles and see if they are available as of this date?

Thanks Caroline. I did research and from what I found out, Merck is the only manufacturer of the vaccines.

Here is a pdf file that says they are no longer making the separate shots.

I am sorry to hear about you and your husband's health problems. I pray that you and yours have a speedy recovery.

Mercks is only manufacturer of the mumps vaccine. So if u have a lil fella then it is a definite issue having separate vaccine.

Measles & rubella as I thought are manufactuered by Sanofi Pasteur in france & are both readily available. I've currently found a clinic in London that does then also a clinic Bath & in Cardiff & Newport.

My eldest has had all his done separate plus boosters.
My eldest girl has had all vaccines except mumps vaccine so I'm really not too worried about her.
My youngest has only had measles & rubella vaccine, last one done Jan 2009, so in 6 months she'll be due a booster, for those so I'm a bit undecided which way to go. I need to goggle really side effects of mumps in girls, I know if boys get it b4 puberty they are fine but if they get it when older it can affect fertility.

Currently pg with no 4, so if its a lil fella I guess I'm gonna have no choice but to give him MMR, but if a girly woo then not sure.

Funnily enough I worked with a couple from New Zealand & they had made sure there lil one had had all there vaccines b4 they left 'cos at the time our vaccines for polio Hib etc all contained mercury, yet in NZ they didn't.

I've always wondered if there was any link, there probably isn't, but its funny whne there seemed to be an increase in autism in the UK that ppl were trying to attribute to mmr, but then the scientist were saying in States NZ australia etc there was no difference. Just made me wonder if them having mercury free vaccines had anything to do with it.

We now have mercury free vaccines but no reports on if rates of autism still on increase.

With my son we were very undecidedwhat to do about mmr, we had just decided to give him it when it all hit the fan when Blair wouldn't say if his son had had the vaccine or not, which really put us off.

I think I'm going to have to have a chat with GP &/or HV with regards what to do with the girls.

Good luck in whatever you decide.
