Medicines for kids? Double doses? & colds!

Ok I don't mean doubling the dose of one thing but can't they have nurofen and paracetamol together?

I never really give my kids medicine - Caitlin has medised but never more than 5ml and very rare but I don't think she can have nurofen on top?

Will nurofen or/and paracetamol help them anyway?

Caitlin was up in the night Im now bunged and Megan is bunged problem is Megan doesn't know how to sniff blow wipe her nose as well of Caitlin obviously ...can't find my decongester (sp?) & local chemist is out of blooming stock.

I'm never ill - Caitlins not really ever been ill and ARGH anyone?

x

I give Jack 5ml of calpol & 2.5ml of nurofen, when he is really not well. Rosie I just gave her 2.5ml of calpol to ease her cold symptoms...not really keen on giving her both atm. Nurofen is more for when they have a fever to help bring temp down but if they are really not feeling well, both together eases the symptoms better x

You can give calpol and nurofen together but because you have to leave 4 hours between doses it might help to give one and then the other one 2 hours later x

NHS Direct told me can give nurofen & calpol together,
Personally i prefer nurofen.
I rarely give amber stuff, only unless she really needs it becaus shes really ill or got a horrible ear infection. Shes been having 3 doses a day of nurofen on monday, tuesday & wednesday, she wouldnt eat or drink, but once i got some nurofen down her, she would perk up a bit actually eat & drink a little.
Took her to docs on thursday, theyve given me cuprofen, its really helped alot.

I think those are like our ibuprofen and acetaminophen and if so yes they can, but they only recommend you do that if they have a very high fever to help keep it from spiking up, then do it for 24hrs...like every 2hrs do one of them...then see how they are doing. I wouldn't personally do it for a cold. We did it once with casen because he had a bad virus where his fever kept spiking to 105 as soon as meds wore off.

Do you have a humidifier? That can help with the congestion. Or sitting in the bathroom with the shower on hot, let it steam up and that will help them breathe better too. I hope they feel better soon!!!

I do the same as you, calpol and then nurofen 2hrs later, that way they stay topped up.

Also giving an ibuprofen based painkiller with paracetamol enhances the effectiveness, so the doctor told me....well his advice was for me as an adult i guess its the same for kids and toddlers.
