No nappy

Hi all,

My 21 month old son has decided he doesn't want to wear a nappy - each nappy change now includes a "no nappy" battle. He's quite adamant about it and protests both verbally and by trying to prevent me putting on the new nappy.

He doesn't have a nappy rash, the nappies aren't digging into him anywhere and it's not a factor of wanting to be without clothes, as he doesn't protest about getting dressed. So, it seems to be just the nappy.

Is this a sign that he is ready to start toilet training?

It's winter here in Australia, so I have been a little reluctant to try toilet training ... but if you think this is what he's telling me, I'll give it a go.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!!

Thanks.

i would try letting him run nappy free at home with a potty on standby, does he know what a wee is ? if he has an accident i would say " oh you did a wee, nevermind try to do it on the potty next time" this seems to be working with my niece atm.
try it and see , if it dosnt work or he isnt ready just pack it away for a few more weeks than try again. have you tried pull up nappies? you might be able to convince him they are pants and not nappies ?

Dec hated getting his nappy changed he would scream and shout no, he would always try to run away from me, I was told it was a phase and he would grow out of it but he didnt. So I bit the bullet and started potty training and now 3 weeks later and 5 days before he turns 22 months he is fully day time potty trained
Give it a go with the potty hun he might just be ready xx

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like I'll give it a try ... he does know what a wee is, so that is a good start. He also announced in a public toilet about two months ago, that "Piddle goes in there" ... so I think he has the concept.
Fingers crossed, this could be it!! If not, we'll try the pull ups instead.
Thanks for your help.
