What age do you start potty training?

I think I've gone mad because I can't remember when I did Ella

Eddie is now 2 years and 2 months old. He is just starting to talk more however I'm not totally sure he's ready to start potty training yet? When he has nappy free time he poos on the floor, sits in it and then rubs it along the floor like a cat with worms . He finds it really funny and even though he knows what the potty is for and there's one on each floor of our house, he doesn't pay any interest in doing his business anywhere other than the floor.

I'm starting to think maybe to leave him a couple more months to develop his speech and understanding a bit more because he hasn't long been speaking a lot.

Is there a right time to do it? Or is it best to let them do it in their own time?

We started with Char at 13 months old, she's doing pretty well. Wearing pull ups during the day to help her feel it. She's peed quite a bit in the potty and will tell you, if you ask, if she needs to use it. Poos are a bit harder, but she goes the same time everyday, so that's helpful!

Dec is in the process of being trained, I am just letting him lead the way, he is 21 months. At the moment he is doing great, all pee-pees in the potty, maybe 1-2 accidents a day, we havent took him out without a nappy yet but we were in town the other day and he asked 3 times to pee and he did. In saying that if he gets up tomorrow and decides enough is enought I dont want to do this then back to nappies we go. I dont think there is any treal age where a child should be potty trained but I think most nurseries wont take them if they are not, Dec starts nursery in Nov 2010 so I hoping to be completely done by then, he will be 3.

I started Harry at 2 but to be honest there is nothing more soul destroying for both of you than trying to force a toddler onto a potty for a wee for hours every day over the course of many weeks. We tried again last month (2 years 9 months) and he picked it up in a day and just did it. We've had no problems since and no accidents. I will be leaving it late with all future kids now!
