Valerie will maybe cry for a max 3 minutes. Sometimes she gets so mad, she will go hide and sit down and pout, but for the most part she only cries for about 3 minutes. And Jess, Valerie does the same thing as Josh with sometimes coming up and grabbing my legs and hitting me. I think the key is to not even talk to them or give them attention....it's what they want more than anything!

Connor will stop throwing a fit after about 3 minutes because he realizes it won't get him what he wants.

Hate to say it, but there is really nothing you can do. I wouldn't ignore it though, I would sit by them until they are done. Its a phase, and they do grow out of it. They get overwhelmed and frusterated by not being able to tell you what they want and etc.

Ignoring them is the best thing to do, if they get any kind of reaction/attention they will keep doing it! Kathryn loves to hit me, when she does I just put her in her playpen untill she stops crying and throwing a fit. Doesn't usually last more then 5 min. It's not making much difference yet, but if your as persistent as they are then they will get the message eventually

Tried everything here too. We do the same as Jess and that's the only thing that works - I feel so guilty though! It's definitely not a case of him getting frustrated at not being able to communicate what he wants - he makes it very clear what he wants, and if it's something he's not allowed he's not happy

I would put her in her crib and walk away. That's my plan for Helena.

I use the naughty step/seat and it really does work! it takes some time for it to take effect and to get the child to actually sit still for however long they are to sit (1 min per year of age) but once you have cracked it its very effective.
