Chronic Sinusitis

Hi all. First time post-er! But have been loving all the dialog.

I am mom to boys ages 10 and 7. My 10-year-old has had horrible sinus trouble and we have tried just about everything. He HATES the rinses and we are a little wary of too many antibiotics and drugs.

We have now had a CT Scan and been presented with two options:

endoscopic sinus surgery OR balloon sinuplasty.

Surgery of ANY kind sounds very scary to me and he is not so sure either. THe balloon procedure is supposed to be less of an ordeal but ???

I am wondering has anyone had to go through procedures like these with children?

Do you know what he is allergic to?
I grew up with Chronic sinusitus and was taken off all dairy products, wheat and preservatives (eg no chips, sweets etc) and my parents had to make sure the house was as dust free as possible. It help and i was able to get by without having to go on any anti-biotics. I did however take some homeopathic drops for sinus.

Surgery sounds really drastic, but if you have exhausted all other methods then I guess you don't have much option.

Hi. We are still debating but thinking balloon sinuplasty is the right move. We have read good things about its use on children, and it seems less of an overall ordeal than traditional sinus surgery.

We are still talking w/ docs and doing our homework but so far we are feeling as good as can be expected.
