Constipation

OK

Archie is usually a very content baby but past few days he has not been poo'ing properly and is only going once a day, i dont know how often babys should go, but when he goes this once a day, it is a massive explosion!!

Also during the day he has gone clingy and every time he has wind, he lets out an almighty cry and then pumps a few times.

Its so upsetting and i dont know what i can do to help him

Don't really know if I can give you any advice but this sounds pretty much what has been happening with Euan over the last 2\3 days. Normally just about every nappy was a wet and dirty nappy but ever since we gave him a bath on Wednesday night he didn't poo once during Wed night/Thurs morning and then when he did poo it was a HUGE explosive dirty nappy!

Been a bit like that ever since then. Definite reduction in dirty nappies but when they happen they are fairly huge! And generally quite runny too!

I got a sheet from the hospital about what is normal for babies nappies during the first month and by 7-28 days it says you may only get '2 or more' dirty nappies and they can be yellow, mustardy colour, watery to birdseed consistency.

I haven't changed his feed in the last week, but I have noticed that Euan is feeding much more often - varying between 45 mins to an hour and a half between feeds last night! Maybe it's a growth spurt, I'm not sure. Our boys are roughly the same age so it could be similar!

HEalth visitor has been today and said as long as he is going least once a day then its fine. He is making up for only gong once a day because as i say, there is loads of it when he goes.
Was a little greeny today though as he has had alot of wind and was told this was why.

YEs serina, ive been givin him a little cooled boiled water to release some wind, i cant do the belly rub in the bath though as Archie hates baths so its a case of in and out as fast as possible lol

He is also feeding small amounts rather often but when faced with a larger amount to try and get more time between feeds, then he just leaves most of it and its a waste.

Im not too worried though at the moment as he has managed to gain a whole pound since being born 17days again and hasnt lost any yet. He gained 7oz in the first 10 days and then another 9oz this time in a week since last being weighed

Mine said axatives are a no no and just told me to feed him water inbetween his milk. This is abit hard when he wont take water and just spits it out.
But Archie is the same Zoe, he screams everytime he passes wind and when he does eventually poo, its like a hard lump in his nappy
