baby food?

My friends baby is a month old and she's bragging to me about how much weight he has gained and that he's already eating baby food.. am I not as in the know as I thought or is that bad for her baby? She's not breastfeeding at all but I thought a baby was meant to drink milk for the first six months?

confused and not sure what to say to her about it

I was the same with my daughter just milk for the first 6 months then very slowly introducing little thing such as mashed apple, banana, potatoe carrot, those little baby yogurts i think they are called little stars or danonino, but not all in one go, i mean trying something new every week or so to see if she reacted and being very careful not to give her cheese or egg and that. but my sister in law who breastfed for a bit but wasnt feeding her baby enough in my opinion lol cos he would constantly scream. She started feeding him everything and i mean everthing eggs, yogurts, veg ,fruit and sometimes even meat and she put him on full fat cows milk from when he was 2 months old. I couldnt believe i mean he is fine, quite big for his age but maybe its not a nice thing to write but he seems slower than my daughter, they are the same age. Be very careful i mean the baby may seem fine eating aload of different food from a young age but remember they are still developing and plus you cant see whats going on inside.

p.s where can i do the thing with the name like you have with iris, it's so cute and i've been going mad trying to find out how to do it

A month old seems way too early to me but I'm not a mum yet so wouldn't know if there are any reasons not too x

Google little monster designs, you have to sign up and make an account and then post on their forum saying the sort of thing you want.. I put the name, EDD and said I liked owls and the colour purple. someone will pick it up quickly and put something together for you. And its FREE

Thanks for your reply

You can start introducing purees at about 4 months, but defo not 1 month, unless she has been instructed to do so from the doctor for some reason!! x

a month does sound early, they advise not to start weaning until (this is the earliest health professionals wouldn't be overly concerned with, depending on baby and situation of corse) 4 months, and even then they aren't saying, get your baby off milk and purely on solids, they mostly suggest if your baby looks interested as long as it isn't a choking hazard etc don't be afraid to let them taste it.
there's a reason health professionals set guidelines and give advice, but thats all it is at the end of the day, how they suggest it, so it's up to the individual if they follow it or not. if the baby is in danger an outsider would step in. but all im saying is, if you feel uncomfortable talking about it with her, perhaps just say you'd rather wait until your baby is here before you express opinion and then when baby is here just say "im not sure we're ready for that yet" that way you can't get into awkward situations with it.
but cows milk at 2 months?!?!?! thats crazy!!

so yeah i agree it does sound a little quick, but people do do it and their baby's are okay (the majority i hear of anyway) but it isn't safest or recommended anytime before 4 months.
each to their own though :/

but this i don't agree with: (its a personal situation that I've heard about not a generalization)
my friend told me about a friend of a friend... who'd just had baby like a couple of years ago, and at 3 days old THREE DAYS... this girl was feeding her baby cottage pie (from the plate, not even mashed up or liquidized not that it makes a huge difference anyway) now thats bad enough on its own, but then she started feeding it WKD from a baby's bottle!!! WTF?!?! i was stunned. i will point out though, that i haven't heard this first hand or seen it so it may not be true, i hope not, i hope its exaggerated but also to add i was told that the baby was taken into care at a couple of weeks old and is now a thriving young child.

All my books say defiantly not before 4 months, and slowly introduce new foods.

I just ignored what she said and replied about his weight gain lol... I wouldn't say I look down on people that don't breastfeed but I do feel a bit about people not even giving it a go for no reason and worse that she's feeding him baby food, so I'll just keep quiet about my opinions
