Angry

Finally had my first experience of being a 'teen mum'. (*bit of a rant*)

I was at a labour party BBQ this afternoon, and this old woman comes up to me and asks "How old is your baby?" 'Okay,' I think, 'that's a fairly common one... I'll let her off for being nosy!' "She's 12 weeks," I answer.

"Hmm, and how old are you?" she persues... and I answer without thinking "I'm nineteen" and she just tuts and walks off with her nose in the air! Looking back on it, I should have answered with something like 'That's a bit rude isn't it? It's none of your business!' It would have saved a whole lot of trouble I reckon and might even have put her off of talking to me again... ::sigh!::

And after that, the whole afternoon she kept saying things like, "Be careful with that baby! Mind her head! Don't you dare drop her!" WTF?! As if I would drop her! So anyway, I got so fed up with her that I ended up snapping back, "I know how to handle my baby!" in a really nasty voice, and walking off. But I was so fed up with her by then that I hardly felt like being very polite...

She wasn't off-put, though and kept making these comments... Then later I was talking to Dominic and, as teething has made Anna a slightly grumpy-bunny lately, I was saying how I'd be glad when all her teeth came through, and she interrupted, "She won't be any different when her teeth are all through!" (Hello, I thought I was talking to my husband!) so I said that yes she would and she's usually so lovely and happy, and she said "She won't be any more or less lovely once she's got teeth." So I just gave her a piece of my mind because I was outright pissed off with her telling me about my baby and how I should treat her by that point, and I said something along the lines of, "Well yes she will actually, because the only reason she's being grouchy at the moment is that her teeth are coming through. Normally she's really happy and laid back, and frankly you don't know my daughter or anything about us, so you shouldn't really comment should you!" Gah!

I've never had anything like this, but I feel certain that it's just because I'm a teenager, I felt like I could have slapped her by the time we left. Stupid old bat!
