I was thinking about this, although haven't done enough research to give you an answer yet!
The ladies at the natural parenting forum, however, are fantastic for this sort of thing, so it might be an idea to ask them

BumGenius is amazing if you have them over there! As well as FuzziBums. I'd suggest buying the bio-degradable liners to go in them though, just for extra leakage support. (And it makes cleaning up the poo SO much easier)

We are going to use reusable nappies. Search through the internet, and even ebay. They are expensive, but you'll spend a lot less in the long run using them x

Most re-usables now come in funky colours & paturns. There are different types of nappies tho so you do have to do some reasearch first. There are ones that adjust & are suitable from birth to potty, some have two different sizes, size 1 for baby & size 2 for toddler. There are all in one nappies that you just have to put on the baby, others have a nappy & a seperate waterproof wrap. All have their pro's & cons.

It would be worth having a look on the net to see if your local area has a nappy service, its normally run by your council & you can have someone experienced in reusable nappies come out & give you a deminstration & advise you on the best ones to use.

using disposables is expensive but the expense is normally spread because you buy as & when you need. But the initial cost of buying the re-usables is quite expensive & generally done in one lump sum. newborns i'm told go through up to 10 nappies a day in the first few weeks so you are going to need atleast 20 to start you off. a bundle of 20 nappies, the lowest price i have seen is £200 & the more funkey the design the more expensive they are. Then you have all the other things to think about too like how are you going to wash them? Use a nappy service or at home? You may need special nappy detergent & you will defo need a nappy pail (a bucket with lid). How will you dry them, especially in winter??

There is lodes to think about & consider before using them that why its best to talk to someone who is experienced in using them. Its defo something i'm considering myself.

If you have a search around the net you can order brochures from different companys that give you info on cost, where you can buy etc

I recently bought some BumGenius Flips. They're a it different to a lot of the other re-usables as you only have to change/wash the liner each time. The outer nappy only needs to be wiped out and can be used for a few times before you need to wash it. This also reduces issues with drying times etc as there isn't a big bulky nappy to dry. Also they are birth to potty nappies which means they grow and expand with your baby so you don't have to buy bigger sizes later on.

I got mine at the babyshow after taking some advice from a 'nappy guru'. I got 4 boxes (which is apparently all i should need) for £135. Each box contains 2 of the outer nappies and 6 liners, which is in theory around 1 days supply (might get through maybe 2 boxes per day in the early days though!). I've done lots of research and decided on the Flips as everyone seems to be raving about them!

The prices vary incredibly, I have nearly all funky nappies, and my most expensive ones were probably near to £25, the cheapest would be preloved ones, some I got for around £5 each, so like I say it varies soo much, if you keep them in good condition you can make back most of your money when your LO outgrows them or potty trains, most or mine I only lost like a fifth of the price when I sold them on, so you need to remember than when buying!

Birth to potty (BTP) or Onesize (OS) will save you money as in theory you will only need the one set, but they only OS I've found suitable from birth was bumgenius and they don't fit to potty training. Weenotions OS fit really well from like 10lb all the way up to 40lb, I can't say smaller than that as I didnt have any when Summer was tiny.

Another option would be to get some cheap nappies like little lambs (I highly recommend these) and then some really funky wraps, look at weenotions or blueberrys.

I have so much I could tell you, but I dont want to fill a huge post with stuff you dont need to use, but feel free to PM me with any questions, I should be able to answer most things you need to know
