the point system is just the way of getting the house/flat, it has nothing to do with the benefits you get.
i dont know much about the point system as my council recently changed to bidding, But i think its where you get points for overcrowded/disability/stairs to walk up etc, and who ever has the most points get the house/flat? someone correct me if im wrong....

YES i know this one :P lol

I've only just got my head around it too!
Basically the more urgent your situation, the faster you get a house, they judge this by the 'points system'... like if you are disabled, 5 points, under 16, 5 points, have overcrowding in your current accomodation, 5 points etc etc etc.
The higher your points, the further up the list you are

Hope this helps xxxx

Well it's not a case of 'needing' a certain number of points .... what happens is that you are allocated different amounts of points for your current circumstances (like age, overcrowding, number of dependents, disabilities etc) .... as your circumstances change (like a baby being born for example) then you will receive more points.

You then use these points (which basically reflect how urgent your housing needs are) to 'bid' on suitable council properties as they become available ..... you will be given a username and password by the council so that you can log onto their site to look at the vacant properties and place your bids.

It's important that you keep bidding on properties so that they can see you are trying to find somewhere, even if your points are clearly lower than all the other bidders - if you don't bid then they will take you off the list

All of the above has nothing at all to do with benefits, but is just about getting a roof over your head ....

Here's the Benefit bit

once LO is here (not before) you will be able to bid on a max 2 bedroom property and the rent/council tax will be paid for you by Housing Benefit (this is on top of your Income Support). However they will only pay up to a certain amount per month - that amount is different for each council/area, so you will need to check the maximum amount that YOUR local housing benefit will pay for you and LO.

Does that help?
