question for U.S.A. Girls

Are any of you on Medicaid? If so, did you drop your parents insurance to be on it? How does that work?

I am preg again and really need to get on it!!

I'm definitely not an "expert" at this but I was on my dads insurance and they wouldn't cover a dependents pregnancy so my parents had to pay for everything..
Many people recommended we get on medicaid and other government insurance but because of my parents income is decent it really limited to what our options are (Not that we were going to get it anyway)
But yeah you have to get off your parents insurance first before you switch over.. I think you could still apply or what ever for it before having to do it.. We tried to switch me over to my moms insurance hoping they would cover it but my dads still covered me up til January 1st when I initially got switched over to my moms insurance..

I don't know how much of that really helped you (if any at all) but there's not many girls from the states on here so I didn't want you to be completely alone on this

In some states, you might not be able to get it if your parents are able to afford insurance. You will need to be emancipated first (up until you're 21 years old, you need to be). That way, their income has nothing to do with what you need.

See, I had a brilliant job and pay and we TTC and got pregnant. But many people lost their jobs because of the recession and I was one of them. I could not possibly afford insurance and had been using the insurance from being a nurse to help with doctor bills.

I applied for Medicaid (income = 0) and was denied because I was under 21 (I am 20). I've been living away from home for 4 years, and they still made it based on my parent's income.

So your best bet would be that you should check into your state policies and see what their rules are and if you need to b emancipated. Because if not, you'll be stuck like me being in debt a couple thousand dollars.

I'm 18 and b/c my mom was a single parent when she was raising me, I'm entitled to Medicaid until the end of my pregnancy. But I'm also covered under my dad's insurance as long as I'm enrolled in classes for next semester at college.

Since you are pregnant you are eligible, also look into WIC.

Good luck

I applied for medicaid and got accepted within 24 hours because i'm 17 and have no job. my parents are married but live apart, so my moms income is not that much since she's self employed. they are pretty good about pregnant teens getting covered by medicaid.

also, make sure you apply for WIC! i get food checks every month and it saves my mom and i sooo much money. we get like 5 gallons of milk, eggs, cheese, beans, peanut butter, juice, bread, fruit/veggies, etc.

I didn't have any insurance before i applied for medicaid, so i'm not sure about your parents insurance. sorry :/

hope this helps <3

i couldnt qualify for wic or medicaid because my mom makes too much money. her insurance will cover me while im pregnant but will not cover the baby once it is born unless it is legally hers. so just because you are pregnant does not mean you will automatically get it. it depends on how much the person who is supporting you makes
