I put my name down on the council list march 2004. My boy was born august 2004 and I had to love with my parents, My ex and I rented privatly in March 2005 but we broke up and I moved back in wth parents in May 2005 lol. I then went to council and said itw as urgent as we were over crowded at my mums, in October 2005 I was finally given a crappy 2 bed flat but it was better than nothing. My and my ex got back together and I was pregnant with my daughter. We finally got a 3 bedroom house in March 2007.

Our council is done by date but some are done by bidding/points so it is worth looking into and putting your name down asap if needs be as it could take a while x

we never had any luck getting a council place
so we went privately

our council do a scheme called 'rent in advance'
where they lend you the deposit and the first months
rent obviously you have to pay them back for
the rent which for us is £32 a month and they get
their deposit back when you leave ...

our council were quite helpful in finding us a
place and getting us in here pretty quickly
just the benefits they seem to mess up

but yea its well worth having a chat to them
putting your name on the housing register just in case
and seeing what else they can do for you
i found bugging them helps too

xxx

Hmm... I've been registered to the council housing and they've said that I might need
to wait until LO is 18 months old!!!
. . . so I've gone private and moving in just after LO is born

Seems that going private is the quickest way around getting accomodation
at the mo babe!

x

Im on the housing list, waiting for somewhere you bid down here but you need loads and loads of points!.

Im currently renting a 1 bed flat we had to come up with the 1st months rent and deposit and now housing benefit pays our rent every month. We are moving to a bigger flat or house by the 13th december but the council are paying for it all I dont know how we done that or why they are doing it but Im not going to complain!.

yeah they pay upto £595 in my area which is really good !

you can go straight into privatly renting if you have the money, but if you under 18 someone has to hold the tenency my grandad currently holds mine but now my oh is 18 hes taking over

Hi girls, I'm not a teen mum anymore (was 16 when I had my first!) But just wanted to say me and my DH went on the housing list when I got pregnant and am still waiting for a house (5years later) We went private but the council pay. Obviously each area differs vastly, but know quite a bit about how it all works now (I think) as have been dealing with it so long. My DH has just qualified though so hoping to be supporting ourselves very shortly. Any questions and I will do my best!!xxx
