That sounds good Emz - we had the same problem here, a 3 bed house and my other 2 kids still at home so Tattie would have had to share with her sister AND the baby, which just wouldn't have worked at all.

We do have Mother and Baby units, but the Council assess you to see if you really need to go into one - Tattie was assessed as having financial needs only because, like you, she has a supportive family to help with the baby, so she didn't qualify for one.

I wrote a letter formally evicting her on a specific date (I gave her one month's notice) and then on that date the Council HAD to house her ... the norm is that she would have gone into a hotel/B&B (but they can only keep you there for 28 days maximum) and then into temporary accommodation (usually a one bedroom place) until a permanent place is found (points and bidding system here). Tattie got lucky though and there was a suitable two bedroom house available for temporary accommodation on the day she was officially homeless, so she got moved straight into there.

Once LO arrives though we will rent privately (because then the amount of Housing Benefit will be much higher) nearer to me - at the moment she is the other side of town from me and it's a real pain when she needs me

The whole thing is a bit of a lottery really, but it's best to get into the system as soon as possible

My mum did exactly the same as Tatties mum. My son was in a room with me and my little sister when he was 14mths old. Was cramped lol. My mum wrote a letter saying I would be evicted and I was lucky I got a flat the day I was made homeless.x

Could any of you help me? i would really like to move out once ive had the baby but i dont know how hard it is, at the minute i live with my mum, her boyfriend(who i hate so one of the main reasons i couldnt stand staying here once the babys born), my younger brother and my boyfriend, But were in temporary accomodation as we had to leave our hosue cos of my dad (domestic violence) so my mum doesnt actually have a place and they're saying it will take up to 18 months to get us somewhere (were on the bidding system and were band 2) so i dont know what to do, the baby is due 7th of april and it isnt my 16th birthday til the 27th, have i not got a hope in hell getting a place? also they say your not actually cast as 16 until you have legally left school so thats not til june or july!

That sounds about right I'm afraid - you would be classed as 16 once you've had your birthday, but your Mum will still be able to claim Child Benefit for you until you have legally left school. As long as she is claiming child benefit for you you won't be entitled to any benefits in your own right, and that includes housing benefit.

IF your Mum was to 'evict' you it would have to be on the grounds of your relationship with her having broken down completely, and at your age, and under those circumstances, they would more than likely place you into a Mother and Baby unit or even into a foster home with your LO

Your best bet is going to be to grin and bear it for a while

Unless you are under a social workers care or have ever been on the at risk list and had a social worker, they will not put you in foster care or kids home at 16 as your not their responabilty, you will be the councils. You would prob get placed in a homeless young persons hostle untill a certain week in pregnancy then get transfered to mother and baby unit untill 'proper' accom can be found for you.
