The only thing I dont like about private is that its not YOUR house. Ok so I know council isnt but you can decorate how and when you want and you cant get booted out with 4 weeks notice.

Not all council houses are horrible. My house is the only housing assc in my street and I am 5mins from the national park and a mile from the sea , It pays to put your name down cause you can normally bid on the house you want.I.E If the house is in a rough area then dont bid on it.

Like I said all councils are different so its best to find out how the system works and get your name down asap as there could be a long waiting list

I was on the housing list, it was like a bidding system thing where i am.
Council put me in band 2, Started bidding on houses in June and got a house in October. Everyones pretty shocked i got a house while still being pregnant and having so long to go. Must have been luck haha. xx

Every area is different Emz ... Tattie is in a lovely 2 bed semi as her temporary accommodation at the moment but we are using the points system to bid on permanent council properties within the area of town that we want.... if we haven't got one by the time LO is born then we will use the 'Deposit Loan Scheme' run by the local council - as described by Jenny Wren - to go private.... just because I need to have her and babe close to me for my own peace of mind

I don't live in your area, but if you need some specific help with sorting out your housing/council then I'll be happy to help with practical advice - just PM me

I'm not doing either, but I definitely think almost everyone is better off going private and getting housing benefit. Round here at least council houses are in horrible areas, and you have to wait forever. If you go private you do have to pay the first month and deposit yourself but you can apply for a loan to cover that, and you're given housing benefit to reimburse you for the first month anyway xx

Hiya
iv been private renting for the last year and a half, i managed to find a house where the landlord accepts DSS so housing benefits help towards paying our rent, they pay £360 atm and we pay the rest of it. we have our name down on the council house list but i think they will just pay more towards our rent for us when the baby comes instead of looking for another house as we are settled here now. I know the most a week the council will pay in our area is £110 a week so we would end up paying about £60 towards the rent at the end of the month, which is a big big help especially with a baby on the way and my OH being laid off work!! hope all goes well for you and you find somewhere soon! x

Yeah that happens in my area, you going into the mother and baby bit you either get a bedsit or a 1 bed if your partner is with you, its only tempory accomidation soo you get 500 points a month so you move out with 4/5 months you just bid every week and hope that on day you get lucky but its alot quicker going through it that way if you want a council place.
I havent gone that way though Im currently renting and getting a council place due to my parnter coming out of prison in 3 days

oooh that doesnt sound good. We dont have mother and baby unit here and all the flats are in houses not tower blocks if that makes sense. If you go on the list as needing instead of urgent that will give you the flexability to apply for a place if it comes up so you wont be classed as urgent and they shouldnt be able to plonk you whereever they want x

spoke to the midwife yesterday, she asked my mom about having the baby there and about room, and my mom even admitted there is no room for a baby.. our house is three bedrooms and tbf the baby would have to share with me.. and theres noway i can fit babystuff in here! just about enough room for my bed, wardrobe, chest of drawers n room to move about!!
she did my notes.. and basicully told me to go housing ASAP, and of course i couldnt get out of bed this morning so another attempt tomorrow..
she said its over crowded and they should give me somewhere, and onabout some new sceame called building blocks for teenage moms.. they give you lots of extra help and all this stuff sounds really good x
