You're absolutely right ... it only hurts when they aren't latched on properly.

The trick is (for all those wanting to BF but who haven't yet tried it) to make sure that LO has his/her mouth WIDE open before letting them latch on. With FF the baby only sucks on the nipple, but with BF the nipple should be almost at the back of their mouth, with the gums around the auriole (the brown pigment around the nipple).

The baby's whole jaw should move as they suck, with the gums stimulating the actual breast rather than the nipple itself.... That's why it's difficult to combine BF and FF - because they are totally different techniques for your LO to learn. You can see if they are BF properly because their ears waggle a little bit as they suck

It works best if you hold LO horizontally across your body, at breast height, rather than in the sort of position you would use to give a bottle, and it helps to gently tickle the corner of their mouth before yo start so that they open their mouth as wide as it will go before you latch them on.

Memysonand3 is also quite right about diet and drinking plenty of liquids .... breastfeeding triplets sounds like a challenge LOL - I'd want to give it a go as well

Definitely gonna give it a go it's best for baby so i think it's definitely the way to go!
Though my sister (who had baby william 2 years ago) really struggled with breastfeeding at first, he just wouldn't latch on properly and even expressing milk she didn't get enough, that made me a bit wary but i'm leaking a bit already so i don't think i'll have that problem haha

Good luck everyone! xxxxxxxx

Even though I fed all of mine for so long I NEVER managed to express more than a few drops .... not even enough to wet the bottom of a bottle LOL

i find that! Tommy has been a dream with feeding, iv bin so lucky. He happily latches and gets on with it and can feed happily for up to an hour, drinking the whole time (i can feel him, c his cheek going and hear him gulping) but if i try and express i can rarely get more that 1oz. I managed to get 3 the other day but it took FOREVER and was quite sore by the end. The first time i xpressed was way easy tho coz i had just got my milk through and felt like i was bursting i was so full!

I can relate to that Kris! I think it's to do with the let down reflex ... mine worked perfectly when I was feeding a baby, but my body wasn't fooled by a breast pump into letting the milk come down properly LOL I think I tried just about every breast pump on the market, but it never got any better.

I just managed without expressing in the end .... you soon learn to do everything one handed, with a LO tucked up under a baggy T shirt

I've been breastfeeding a year this Saturday. I'm 20 now, but was 19 when I started

Good luck! Its hard and hurts like hell at first. But just don't give up it gets better, and then you fall in love with it.
I'm completely addicted

Good luck with it babe xx

I gave it a shot, didnt last very long but she got most important part thats all that matters. BF'in just wasnt for me, found it very difficult. I do hope to BF this baby for same period of time think its only fair, but i personally cant see it lasting much longer than did with the first.

I'm gonna try. But I'm not going to do it in public or around anyone but my OH. Very self concious.
