If your bloodtype is for exaple B negative that means that you are rhesus negative.Your blood cells do not have this rhesus factor. If your baby is rhesus positive that means that he has this rhesus factor.Your body will start to produce anti rhesus cells and that could destroy its.It could bring some complications...
I'm AB negative and pregnant.Does it mean that I'm also gonna have to get these shots?

Hello

Welcome to Baby and Bump!

There are four possible blood groups: A, B, AB and O. Everyone belongs to one of these four groups and except in very rare instances. People who are RhD-positive have a protein on their red blood cells called D antigen, RhD-negative people do not have this. If you are RhD-negative and are carrying a RhD-positive baby, there is a risk that if yours and the baby's blood mix (which could happen during pregnancy or the birth) your immune system will produce antibodies against your baby's blood, which will cause anaemia and other problems in this baby or in future pregnancies. x

Your care providers should be aware of your blood group from blood tests and will give you this injection between 28 - 34 wks. But I would bring it up at your next appointment for reassurance! x
