R- pill to be available over the counter

Ok so in light of the recent goverment announcement to allow pharmacies to prescribe the contraceptive pill (which could include those under 16) do you feel this is a good move? why/why not? Thanks guysxx

Im not sure really.. in one way it's just encouraging girls to have sex, even underage sex.. but I feel it's also a good move because they may think more responsibly before doing it.

I think if they want to have sex they will do it anyway, if they are going to at least let them be more protected. The problem is that a lot of young girls aren't clued up and think that if they're on the pill they can't get STD's.

We need better sex education in this country for a start!

Im not sure. Works both ways, good in the sense that more people might go get the pill and be safe. But its then encouraging underagers to have sex and sometimes they can be so immature and can just end up in some seriously horrible situations.

I think for over 16's it should be available but to be honest when i was 13 i couldnt even ask for laxatives in a chemist! christ i still cant buy tampons without all the blood in my body rushing to my face! I would find the Dr or a clinic much easier to talk to at that age. But then you also get all the information you need. I couldn't have gone into a chemist when i was younger but i would have happily gone to the Dr's which i think should be encouraged more. In general talking about sex and stuff should be made easier for everyone to talk about and i think that starts at home. I was braught up by my dad and i know how awkward he found talking to me about the birds and the bees was. but he made it clear that i could talk to him and he would listen and not embares me or make me feel foolish or wrong for doing so he told me about the pill at 13 and asked me if i wanted to go on it i told him no but when i did he was fully aware and would remind me to take it I was 15. I know now how hard that was for him. When i fell pregnant it was my own fault and not due to lack of education on the subject.

In a way It would be good to stop so many really young teen mums. Education should be managed better and again more of it!! If having sex under age questions also arise about who the underage person is having sex with and this is also something that needs to be looked into more.

i think its good to be available to under 16's because if its not its not going to make people who are underage think 'oh ill wait' there just going to do it anyway. so if the pill being available over the counter is going to stop teens under 16 getting pregnant if they dont want to be then i guess it will reduce abortion aswell which would probably reduce the amount of teens who go through this alone every year! x

I believe it is a wonderful thing. I believe that if people are going to have sex, they will whether or not their parents are ok with it.

That is like saying 16 year olds shouldn't be allowed to buy condoms. I personally believe that is promoting unsafe sex.

If they teenager wants bc, they are obviously trying to be responsible about their sexual activity. Just my opinion
