EGG result clear but.....

Hi there everyone!

In october damian had an eeg under semi sedation to test for epilepsy. The results came back clear but since the test he has had 2 absent periods and still does the weird thigs with his eyes and mouth. The letter from his doc says thy will still consider putting him on medication if it does continue. So has anyne else had this at all where a test has come up clear buta problem is still there??

I had an EEG myself as a child for headaches. I also recently had one done on my son for his Autism (they run a increased risk of seizures). Not sure what the results are yet! I suppose this is a helpless reply. But,

My daughter had some tests done for a seizure disorder. I am not sure what the results of her tests were, but she is on medication. She is on a drug called "tegratol" (sp?). It is really simple. She simply has a couple tablets in the morning, and then again before bed. They make her eat them before breakfast and bedtime snack, so that motivates her. She is pretty used to it. She just chews them, so I am guessing they don't taste too badly. Her seizure disorder was diagnosed because she had several grand mal seizures where she stopped breathing and everything. The tests I think were pretty useless. The one test that was good, was the MRI. It showed that her fat on her brain wasn't quite fully developed yet.

A friend of mine's 9 month old has just started having absent periods. He screams and screams and screams for no reason then goes blank and you cant rouse him, then he will wake and just pass out for hours. He is currently waiting a CT scan. What is an EEG?

thanks for the replys. An eeg pick ups brain waves asicaly. They put a seris of electrods on the head and take a reading. If there is a problem you can see it buy the readings. Although my friend has severe grandmal epilepsy and a few times her eeg has shown nothing(which makes no sense).

Damians like that emma. His mood will change rapidly from anything to a few hours to a few days. He gets angry and soo frustrated over anything. Plus he cant bear other people around him. Then he has an absent period and when he wakes up its like wiping clean the slate as hes back to his usual self.

Hi matilda as epilepsy she is on medication phenobarital and epilem. At 5 weeks she had 3 grand mal ones which were full blown - went brigt red, stopped breathing, throw herself around cot, foamed at mouth, stiff, eyes rolled. Cant around then went to sleep for hours. They tried to do a EEG but she had a grand seizure and throw probes off her head but since they got the fit on camera give her the medication. She also as the small ones where she goes blank. She is still on medication at first they were hopeing it was the E Coli infection in her shunt but since she still has the odd grand one and small ones they have classed her as epilepsy without further tests. They are hoping to take her off Phenobarital soon as children shoudnt be on too long and increase her epilem so see what happens.
