| Posted this on the 1st Tri but.....too good to be true? Folks, just got off the phone to my council, basically i'm sure you all know my story, i am now seriously looking into my financial options, the benefits don't look like they will cover my mortagage and allow us to eat so i thought i'd find out whether if i sold my flat as it would be no longer financial viable whether i would get council housing, i'd move back with my parents and do it that was as making a homeless claim means i have no choice of where i live and that scares me!
Basically i ran thru the finances asked whether maybe i should look at housing benefit for a private rental instead if i sold the flat - so the lady goes and speaks to a housing officer to give her the low down....she comes back and says that the housing officer says there maybe a way i can keep my home! is it possible? i have to go and see them next week with proof of all my bills and discuss my situatuion, basically the appointment lady said that this might be because the housing benefit with the quick benefit check she did was £180 a week were as my mortgage (thank godness i paid a big deposit 6 years ago) is only £145
i really don't want to get my hopes up but how great would that be?! my appointment is not for 2 weeks though i hate waiting - has anyone else had this happen to them? |

I'm Currently Feeling: | Ahh that would be a right result if they managed to do that for you so you dont have to sell. I'd do all i could to keep a hold of the flat in this current financial state if i were you hun |

I'm Currently Feeling: | are they talking about the sell your house and rent it back scheme thing?? i saw the guy off moneysavingexpert talking about it i think on this morning earlier in the week. he said use it as a very last resort, cos there's terms built in so you can only live there so long, and then they kick you out. i'd just be dead careful and fully look into your options. if you end up renting then its "dead money" at the end of the day. hoping it all works well tho xxxx |

The other week on this mronign they had a woman with kids on, basically she'd got into that scheme because she'd split up with her fella and couldn't afford the mortgage. She ended up loosing everything because they kicked her out after so many months and there wasn't a thing that could be done. felt sorry for her.
Go to the appointment and see though, you could be on to something. Do becareful though if it does sound a bit good to be true without meaning to be sceptical *spelling*. Get all the details off them and then maybe do something like go to citizens advice bureau for some unbias advice. |

Could take a long time to get a reasonable price for it too. Really hope everything goes well for you x |
