Been to see GP today

Hi All

I've been to see my GP today to talk about what they can do to help me and hubby, we have been trying to conceive all in all just short of 2 years now and have recently started using the CBFM (though I haven't taken any contraception for 12 years since my son was born).

The GP has told me to work through the 'shopping list' she has given me - a smear booked for the week after next, sperm test for hubby and a blood test to be done between days 1 and 5 of next cycle. She has also told me that I need to make sure my BMI is below 30 (it is currently 32), so I am off to slimming world tomorrow. When we have done all of the above, she will refer us. What I wanted to know, is what happens next after that? Has it been a long wait for people before they get referred? (I live in Tameside in Manchester). Is it a long process before we get to the IVF stage?

Thanks for your help, I'm totally new to all this and have just sort of hoped for the best so far.

xxxxxx

Hi Mrscleg,

We went to see our doctor in March and had to go through all the tests before we could see a FS. We had our appointment last week so its taken us 6 mnths to get to this stage. I have to go for another scan and my OH has to do another SA before we see the FS again in 6 weeks. This is when we decide if we want to go through with IVF/ICSI. Im not sure what the waiting list is like for the treatment so we could have another few mnths to wait.
I think it all depends on your area (we are in Leeds) but I hope this gives you some idea x
