They look really cool! I'm going to have to buy at least one to try! My concern is how wide they are between the legs. BB diapers tend to be wider and my LO is skinny so it really shows on her. They took the 2 size system that I love in Thirsties and added a double snap and stay put flaps which I missed about Thirsties.

Just to add, the things that work best for us at the moment are ebay cheapy pockets with a 3-layer MF insert on top of two 3-layer bamboo inserts. We can get 4 hours out of that but it is MEGA bulky and he has trouble moving and all his trousers are too tight :haha:

As promised, a quick review of these wraps. They were 2 for £5 and free postage, so I wasn't expecting too much, but am so far pleasantly surprised. They're MASSIVE - I bought the large size for Imogen and I don't need to worry about her outgrowing them before she's five or six! They do fit, as the velcro strip is nice and generous, but they're huge. They're the same shape, feel and general fit as Motherease Rikki, but the leg gussets are a bit more generous. I like this, as it means Sandys fit better underneath them. The outside is soft, but it's a stiff PUL, which in my experience means it lasts longer when washed at 60 degrees, but I'll update you when I've washed them a few times. We used overnight last night, with a boosted terry and it coped very well with Imogen's morning power wee - the nappy was sodden and the inside of the wrap was pretty wet, but no damp patches or wicking. I think I'm going to buy the medium to try on Teddy and see how they work with pees-like-a-horse-boy.

I am going on a car trip and have recently started feeding my LO solids. I have made all her food with all natural ingredients and she eats with us (not quite BLW, but not TW either) now but I don't know how to carry it on the road because it really needs to be fresh or made fresh. I still breastfeed but I want to bring something solid she can also eat at stops with us (I know not to feed while driving).

I have tried not to give her too many processed foods. She mainly eats steamed veggies, and fruits and whole wheat pasta like we eat (no salt and stuff of course). I want something that is easy and doesn't have to be kept cold because we will be on the road. My friend said to take Cheerios but I don't like all the ingredients on the box. Any ideas?

Btw she is eating small finger foods, not purees. Thanks for any help! :)

As we already have most things we will need for this baby from first time round I am going to treat myself and baby to a lovely new sling.

I have a Close Baby Carrier which I loved and used loads with my son until he was over one then his legs stafted got too long. As it will be summer when this baby is born the material is quite thick so I think it will be too hot for the baby to be in over summer (and will make me way too hot too).

I like the look of Ergos, Mei Tais and Connectas so anyone who has experience of those can you tell me good and bad points about them please. Also any other recommendations would be appreciated too.

Hi ladies,

I'm a cloth newbie and have been lurking here for the past couple of days looking through the guides and reviews (and also getting very jealous of all the pretty stash photos :haha: )

So since Saturday- when I decided we should switch, we have already bought 4 TotsBots easyfits and I have 3 x Bambooty Easy Dry, 2 x BG Freetime and 1 x Bitti Tutto in the post. I decided AIOs coz DH helps with a lot of the changes and thought it would be a good compromise during the transition period so he doesn't get too freaked out.

I'm trying to stick to BTP nappies to make more of a saving (I couldn't pass up on the sized Bambootys which were on offer on c&c....oops)

We were thinking of going cloth part time at first but I'm already getting ahead of myself and thinking about night nappies. The Pop-in Dream Dri is on offer so I might try one of those and also the TotsBots Bamboozle Stretchy. The thing is I'm not sure which wrap can be used with them? I've got my eye on some pretty Blueberry Coveralls but also want to know whether the Flip will work with them as they are slightly cheaper but still BTP? Or do I have to buy the flip inserts?

Are there are other nappies you ladies recommend for novices? Both for building my day stash and good options for nights? Is there anything I need to look out for on the nappies I have already chosen?

Just wondering if anyone has a plan for when they'll stop sharing a bed with their child/children most nights.

I honestly don't know and people keep on asking me when we'll stop, as well as when we'll stop BFing :dohh: And they seem to recoil in horror when I say I'm happy to share until we get our own place when she'll have her own room (living at home until I finish uni, which should be 2015). I know it sounds like quite a long time but I feel safer with her in my bed, and she always sleeps better cuddled up to me.

I would always try to sneak into my parents' bed until I was ten, but my dad usually moved me into my own once I was asleep - which I hated! I even ended up sharing a bed with my mom for about a year when I was twelve because I got really freaked out about a true story my drama teacher told me  And my mom convinced me to sleep on her bed with Bee just after she was born, so I just think it's really normal for security

So, how long do you think is too long to co-sleep? :flower:

Hello, my name is Jessica and I use disposable diapers, I'm ashamed to admit that I found them convenient to use especially at night but the guilt of the environment/landfill is starting to get to me especially seeing how long they take to degrade! I can proudly say we do use cloth wipes breastfeed, co sleep (his need not necessarily our choice) and baby wear. To take this leap of cloth I must ask the ladies here a few questions.

Firstly when changing the diaper/nappie do you just change the liner and outer if soiled?

Second, what about at night? I change his diaper only when needed which can be 2 to (the other night) 4xs.

Because I breastfeed as you ladies know he has loose stools do you use flushable liners in that case?

Thank you for your help

My first experience didn't go down too well

Got them in the post (roll of 100 Little Lamb) and opened them up, thought they looked a bit like the colour catcher sheets I put in the washing machine but flimsier?

So I opened a few out and decided they were huge - twice the size of my LO's wee bum so I decided to rip them in half. Sadly they ripped in all directions rather than straight down and ended up in the bin :haha:

Second attempt - I got a knife out (couldn't find scissors), held a couple of liners taught and cut. Those ended up in the bin too.

Third attempt - I spent an hour searching the house for a pair of scissors. Finallly found a pair and cut a few of the liners in half. Woohoo, we're good to go!

Now, by this time I can smell a nasty big poo in my LOs nappy and I feel only immense disappointment that I haven't gotten to try out my liners yet. I put a fresh nappy on.

Now, this is the tricky bit. How on earth do you get the liner to stay in place while you are holding onto the leg of a 1 year old who constantly flips over, wriggles and does pelvic thrusts at you? I finally get it semi in place over her bum and popper up the nappy feeling mighty pleased with myself. Aha - no more scrubbing sh*t off nappies for me!!

So, 30 mins later I screw my nose up at that awful smell again and feel excited I finally get to see how my liner has done. I tackle the wriggling, whinging, belly flopping 1 year old to the floor and open the nappy.

And stare in horror at my liner which now seems to have shrivelled up and glued itself into LO's bum crack with squidgy poo (that even has bits in it I'll have you know). I finally manage to peel it out (while getting bits of sh*t stuck under my nails) and wrap it in the nappy and clean LO up. It was sopping wet and LO had a very red bum where it had been sitting. And yet again I still have to scrub crap off a dirty nappy!

What am I doing wrong? I really want to use them as LO has around 4 dirty nappies a day now.

Should I use a whole liner - they seem HUGE!

I've read somewhere that the yarn needs to have a 80%+ wool content but have also read that you can use acrilyic. So I'm totally bamboozled a bit by it.

How easy are they to look after? Do they take alot of work to keep up to their water repellence?

Both my mum and I knit so knitting some wouldn't be an issue :) it's just what wool to use.

So I plan to babywear my little guy, and I registered for a couple slings I really like, but I had a question about cleaning. Is there any specific way I should avoid cleaning them? Should I handwash them, take them to a laundromat, avoid hot water or what? I looked for cleaning instructions on the ones I registered for but there weren't any...I am just a very outdoorsy person and love to walk to the park, even if we are gonna be living in the city and expect them to get dirty :haha:
Anything helpful you could tell me about them would be great

Only just come back actively on here last few days. And now I remember why I gave up. I just don't fit in anywhere.

I come to this section because I feel I like it the best, however I don't really fit here.
I use cloth, but I use washing powder, so surely that undoes the good work, I did try soap nuts and hated them. Also although I did initially use them for environmental reasons, I also think they're better for her bum, and they're sooooo pretty.
I babywear, but LO also goes in her pram a lot, I always face her towards me, and chat and sing to her.
We have 2 cars, through necessity, would love to only have 1 or better still none as it would be cheaper. But thats not natural.
I try and parent my child as gently as possible, but am guilty of shouting at my 8 year old, on more than one occasion:nope: So that goes against everything natural.
I would love to buy organic clothes and clothes only made in this country etc, but can't afford to. I do buy a lot of pre loved which I suppose is better than buying new.
I am very guilty of using Tesco A LOT!
We do a lot of natural play and go outside (probably not as much as we should) but my house looks like Toys r us with all its plastic toys.
We sometimes co sleep, but I love my space in bed too much to do it regularly.
My LO has a routine, albeit one she set herself, and we regularly break it.
I have only ever given her our food, and she normally feeds herself, but often I feed her with a spoon. So I didn't TW or BLW. I just did it our way.
But probably the worst one is I only BF for 9 weeks. I chose to stop, because I was getting myself in a right state and I was so worried I'd end up with PND again and felt that stopping was right for me and I don't regret it, and in fact I'm pleased as I didn't BF my first at all. But this alone makes me feel like I don't belong here.
I try to parent as naturally as I can for my family and I trust my instincts and listen to my children. But don't fit here necessarily, I just think its the nicest section. I don't fit in baby club because its not me.
So girlies where do I belong. SOunds silly and it shouldn't matter but it does today. I always had same issue at school, had lots of friends from all different groups, but mostly hung with the cool goths/alternatives. But never managed to pull off the look as being plus sized clothes have always been an issue. I still dabble now and again, but I'm never happy with the effect. I guess I'm just me, but sometimes it would be nice to fit. Sorry for the silly rant

Do toddlers pee a lot more around 16 months (outpeeing nappies)?

Is it common for toddlers to suddenly pee a lot more (or in bigger spurts) when they are around 16 months? If so, when do they generally stopping...

Is it common for toddlers to suddenly pee a lot more (or in bigger spurts) when they are around 16 months? If so, when do they generally stopping peeing as much again? Xavier's outpeeing his cloth and I'm considering switching to sposies until he goes thrgouh this 'mega pee stage'.

I am assuming he is peeing much more as we've started having leaks over night (in sposies) as well for the last month - they used to go 14 hours and now he'll leak after 12. We've partly solved this by switching from Pampers to ASDA nappies which sometimes give us long enough - maybe two leaks a week instead of virtually every night.

Our cloth stash is mainly made up of Flips, Blueberry coveralls and prefolds. A Flip with an unboosted stay dry used to go three hours easily and four before leaking - now he's leaked by three, even with a bamboo booster added. Likewise, a wrap with a Thirsties or Flip prefold used to go comfortably four hours and definitely past five before we'd get a leak - and again we're getting leaks at the three hour mark (literally friday he was soaked through his vest and jeans at three hours).

I don't want to boost further as it's just getting bulky and faffy (plus doesn't seem to be working anyway). I don't want to have to buy new stash or change every two hours either. So guess I'm stuck with sposies (which work way way better - my only 'objection' to them is environmental) as they actually seem to do the job - four hours between changes no problems.

Sooo....how long will this mega peeing stage last? Please say your little ones went through this and then stopped outpeeing stuff a few months later. Would be nice not to have to quit cloth altogether, but just take a short break

What the title says really!

I have a moby wrap which i love, but im aware that as my LO gets heavier it might not be ideal. Also, it's going to be a bit snug for summer, and it's not the easiest for just throwing on and removing - if im outdoors it ends up trailing on the ground and, well, i live in scotland, it's rainy a lot of the time....plus the ground is pretty minging too.

These 4 i think i've narrowed my searching down to....but i cant seem to figure out what one to get! I do have back problems (upper and lower) so one that spreads the weight evenly would be better.....
are they all pretty much the same thing just some with buckles and some with ties??

Any input would be appreciated!

My baby girl is 9 wks, I am breastfeeding and co sleeping. I am
Slowly going insane and need help! During the day she will NOT stay asleep once I get her to sleep for her naps. And it takes ages to even get her to sleep. I rock, feed and shh her to sleep but she fights it so much, just recently I have started putting her in her bed when she fights me nursing her but she just ends up screaming. A nurse wanted me to try controlled crying and she showed me the method when she was here to weigh her etc but I am not comfortable with it at all. I'm booked into a sleep school on the 22nd but I've heard that's what they do there. I am constantly nursing rocking and holding her, I love her to bits she was so wanted but I am getting very distressed by being able to find a way to help her. She gets so overtired she just screams. She won't take a dummy and yes I have a sling for her. I take her walking in the pram and she just ends up in tears. She had a tongue tie which we had released and thought maybe that was affecting her feeding thus sleeping but that was a month ago and no change. I feel like I do nothing but spend all day every day trying to get her to sleep. Please I'm after any advice at all. It's making me not confident to go out with her in case she end s up in one of her screaming fits where I can't calm her.. Any advice welcome!

Okay I'm having some trouble with my pockets leaking after about 3 hours (which I know is a good time anyway!). The inserts amount to 6 layers of bamboo. When I change LO (boy), I find that the front half of the inserts are soaked, but the back half is dry. So could the the leaking be caused by saturation of the front half? Or would the whole inserts need to be soaked for that to be the reason? :(

Is there any cloth that doesn't splay younger LO's legs?

We bought cloth for my DD but didn't use them much when she was younger as I felt the bulk in the crotch and the splayed legs was restriction her movement and she couldn't roll over, crawl etc. while wearing a big bulky nappy. When she was bigger more mobile I used them for about 4 months until she started outpeeing everything! I am just trying again this week but struggling as when I add a booster I find I get the splayed legs effect again and with a single insert I'm changing every 2hours or so!

I know a lot of people will tell me that legs splayed is a natural position but it doesnt' feel right to me to have my LO restricted like that all the time and I know I will end up wasting all my cloth again if buy for this baby and have the same issue!

So, I've found the Swaddlebees range with the very shaped crotch so that legs aren't splayed at all but they don't seem to make them any more and I'm struggling to get hold of them :-S

Are there any other similar nappies?

Thanks girls.

hello ladies..
i don't even know where to start, well I have a 6 yr old son and when he was born i was very young(16) and didn't know a thing about baby wearing I didn't even know it existed! but one thing I was sure of, I hated his stroller to me it was so bulky, it took so long to get him to stay in it and he nerver liked it, it took alot of space and Ican go on and on. When i started ttc my second, I signed up to bnb and learned about baby wearing, and decided to baby wear my next baby. I am 15 weeks along and it might be early but I really want to learn as I have no clue..I have read woven wraps are great but to me they seem difficult to master, i want something easy to start with, could you recommend me wraps? also I have seen one on target that I like http://http://www.target.com/p/Infan...r/-/A-13800250 do you think this would be a good wrap?

also I am interested on cloth diapers but my OH doesn't support this idea, he says cloth diapers are expensive and he refuses to but preloved :( and says we are gonna end up spending more on all the washing, if I don't get to use cloth diapers with this baby at least I will be using biodegradable diapers..

thanks for reading and for your help:flower:

I am using this pocket nappy

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1108115483...84.m1439.l2649

on LO (boy) who spends a lot of time on his tummy. Today he wore it for 4 hours, the longest he's ever worn it, and he had leaked a small patch up his tummy.

I can't help wondering whether the nappy fits right. It looks to me as if the fleece inner might be causing wicking onto his clothes in the tummy area, but I'm not sure. Is the fleece meant to come all the way to the edge of the nappy like that? Could you please have a look at the picture I took below - you can just about see a white line at the top, which is the inner fleece?

I couldn't check whether he had saturated his inserts because he had done a MASSIVE poo at the same time (which the nappy contained!) but I didn't want to be messing around with it to check whether the inserts were soaking or not. :dohh: I use 2 inserts, and each are 3 layers of bamboo - is that a lot? It's not too bulky - should I add more? (These inserts *should* be at or near full absorbency as they have been prewashed loads.)

Also judging by the picture do you think I am using it on the correct rise / tightness setting?

:flower:

I've read the Mothercare ones are no good because the part that goes between the legs is too narrow.

What about the Boots ones? I've read a coupèle of bad reviews of those too, saying that the fabric part that goes around the legs get wet from the nappy.

Has anyone tried the Junior Joy ones? Those are the only ther ones I've seem for sale. What are they like size and containment wise?

So, I am on a mission to convince my dh to let me stay at home. So far, I've at least got him to let me stay off the rest of the school year next year if I get pregnant with #2. To save money, I told him I've very willing to use cloth diapers. (Right now we spend a good $40 a month.) So I thought next month during my week long spring break, I might try it. Could I just buy a few so I won't be wasting too much money if it doesn't work? I know prefolds are the cheapest, but lo is almost a year old, and I've considered that I should probably use an option that daycare could possibly live with if I do go back to work. Any advice on what kind and how many? Thanks!

Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention that at least 2 of my coworkers tell me it's not worth due to extra water bill from all the washing. Somebody reassure me this is not true.

I think LO and I have thrush, him oral and in his nappy area, and my in my milk ducts :(. Doctor didn't seem particularly up on this, he wasn't even going to offer me treatment, only LO, until I pointed out I needed something too or we'd just keep re-infecting each other. So he said to use the cream he's given me for LO's bum on my nipples, and just wash it off before a feed. Wonderful.

But anyway, I know I need to do something to stop the thrush staying in his nappies. I normally wash on 40 with bio, do I need to up it to 60? And do my breast pads and bras need washing differently too?

Any tips on fighting thrush naturally? I'm going to cut down on sugar for a bit; I have a really really sweet tooth since starting BFing so it's going to be hard but all that sugar can't be helping. I'll be getting some natural yoghurt tomorrow to put on nipples, baby's mouth and bum, and to eat (better get a big tub!). I've heard sunlight and air on nipples can help, but it's a bit cold to be going topless outside! DH will be pleased at least if I start wandering round the house semi-naked. :haha:

I bought a Close carrier when TK Maxx had them on offer a little while ago but the separate panel annoys me and since Ollie seems to like being snuggled up in a stretchy more than his sister did I decided it was time to reinvest

Hi there, my little one is almost 5 weeks and just wanted to thank you all for all your help on fluffies! I've been a bit of a lurker on this section of the forum but I've picked up loads of advise and got myself a good stash. I had an unplanned csection so haven't really started using the cloth nappies until now and we're still not on them full time. My little man is 13lbs already so thank god I didn't get any newborn nappies!

Anyway here's some sneaky photos and also a quick question. When I use the flips or my terries the wrap part is always wet. I thought I was able to reuse these? Should I just wipe them and use again or have I done something wrong to get them wet in the first place?

looking like a podge in his easyfit!

I used cloth with my little boy from day 14, and my trusted favourites were tot bots bamboozles :) I purchased one pocket nappy. A ill informed nature babies stuffable pocket :( it was horrendous I used it 6 times and every time it leaked :hissy: I tried it at many different weights as well.

I always swore I'd use my bamboozles with number 2 as I was totally in love with them but Martha is such a dainty thing they are huge, bulky and limit her movement. So I bought a few different BTP pockets to try :) the old trusted bamboozles have since been sold and our stash is now just pockets, wraps and prefolds :)

Anybody else find that there favourite nappy suddenly became there least favourite?

He is soaking through after 7-8 hrs.
Are there any heavy wetter nappy brands that dont need an extra wrap? Also im thinking of trying a wool cover. In the meantime were back to sposies a few nigjt a week just so we both get a full nights sleep.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is? I just popped a nappy in the wash which had admittedly been left a bit long (it was in the nappy bag for 3 days because I'd used a different bag and forgotten all about it:blush:). Anyway, when I unwrapped it it had bright green stains in it. Now these were definitely not there when I took the nappy off and there was no poop in it either, just urine. Is this a normal way for urine to react with the cloth (bamboo btw)? Or could it be a sign that there's something in the cloth or LO's urine that shouldn't be there? Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi,
Miley is 14 weeks old and is being breastfeed exclusively (sometimes give a bottle of expressed milk if necessary) up until 2 weeks ago all of her naps were taken on me (i tuck her inside my cardigan and rock her to sleep). She will now fall asleep in her pushchair for one nap a day if i take her for a walk or push her back and forth. I also use a baby carrier for naps and walking etc.
At night she nurses to sleep and then my husband lifts her from my lap and transfers her to her cot. If she wakes up she screams the place down and i have to either nurse her to sleep again or rock her to sleep, then wait for her to be in a deep sleep and transfer her to her cot.

My in-laws came over the other day and basically told me i was doing everything wrong! That she has to always sleep in her cot, never elsewhere. And that she should be putting herself to sleep and if she cries to just let her. I said i didn't like the Cry-It-Out method and they said i didn't have a choice. Other people have also said this to me.
I just don't know what to do! I am really doubting myself and am just exhausted!

A big problem we have is that my husband cannot get her to fall asleep, so currently whenever she needs sleep it falls to me. This is starting to frustrate me as i am obviously also breastfeeding. For example last night when she awoke at 5am for a feed, i fed her and she fell asleep, however she woke up when we put her down. I knew she was full so i then rocked her to sleep. I just felt that this is something my husband could be doing if our daughter would fall asleep on him. But i don't know what to do to help that happen!
I really don't want to resort to cry-it-out!

I really don't mind her napping on me for a couple of naps a day, but i need a decent one where i can put her somewhere and get things done. But i don't know what to do. I really feel like i am on the edge now as my in-laws and a few other people have really made me doubt my abilities as a mother.
They all say i am doing her harm as i am not letting her develop self-soothing skills and that she will grow to be a clingy needy child.

I am off to a nappy shop today to use my voucher the council have just started giving out for cloth nappies. Very exciting! I've got a stash from Alice's nappy days, but buying for the baby is always nice!

The lady running the shop has got starter sets of nappies to fit in with the council scheme. She has Flips, Bumgenius V4, New Gen Pop Ins and some newborn ones that only go up to 12lbs, so I'm not bothering with those. Out of those first 3, what would you go for? I've used Flips and the old style Bumgenius and Pop Ins, are the new ones very much different?

Alternatively, I could spend the money on my own choice of wraps etc, but I don't think that would be as good value

In my current stash, I've got old Bumgenius, Pop Ins, Flips, and Little Lambs. I've got a few Motherease wraps and terry squares too.

Help a confused lady out!

currently he sleeps from about 8pm until around 2.30/3.30 for a feed which takes over an hour, during which I change him. He then sleeps till around 7 or 8 - when I go to change him he is very wet, so I would feel guilty leaving him all night... but I guess he'd wake up if he was uncomortable?? what do others do??

I need someone who can sew to alter a pillow case for if possible, pretty pretty please [-o<

Sounds strange but I have spent the day hacking a plastic covered 'mattress topper' to pieces so it fits my changing table to use as a mat because all the ones in the shop were way too small and there is a small piece left over that I want to use as a pillow for the newly hacked up changing mat.

It is too small for a normal pillow case though so was hoping if I sent someone a normal pillow case they could alter it and make it smaller in order to fit this piece of foam?

I will of course pay to have it done and postage costs etc. but I am SO rubbish at sewing it's a laughing joke in my house and my new changing table will look ever so pretty if the idea works.

So anyone who can do this? :hugs:

Was wondering about switching to CSP for my panty liners. Mainly want them for back up to tampons during period and for occasionally mid-cycle as well. Also, occasionally, if I'm suffering from lots of coughing or sneezing I sometimes need something light then as well as...well..my muscles aren't what they were pre-child!

Sooo...any recs? I'm liking the look of Weenotions new peapods. What's comfy? I get itchy easily if that makes a difference on fabrics etc (though I guess switching from disposable ones will help that anyway...?)

Also how well do they last? I currently use Sainsburys disposable liners which work out about 3p each. CSP seem to be about £4.50 each, so that would be around 150 uses each to work out the same per use - would they last that many wears/washes? Cost isn't my main motivation but I don't want it to work out loads more expensive either.

So seeing as we all know that you can do cloth really cheaply or realllllly expensively I was just wondering what we all think is ok for us personally to spend on nappies. For us

Pockets- I think the most we have spent is about £19 but would spend up to £20 if it was really special. Mostly I don't spend more than about £10 on pockets though.

Wraps- Normally I think about £13 is 'ok'. I don't want to say what the most I have spent on a wrap was. It was from the US though and out of production..

Customs- I think we would spend about £28ish on a really lovely special custom. It would need to be lovely though.

I think my average spend per nappy is probably only about £6 because I buy a fair amount pre-loved and do a lot of swapping.

We used cloth with my LO from about 6/7months for 3 or 4 months but I only bought cheapies and BG flips and both leaked even with bamboo boosters in...

We used cloth with my LO from about 6/7months for 3 or 4 months but I only bought cheapies and BG flips and both leaked even with bamboo boosters in the end.

I still have about 15 cheapies in the cupboard somewhere and 1 flip and 3 inserts I think.

Anyway, we are on a money saving mission - have been doing all the MSE challenges and are reducing our groceries etc. to less than £50 a week but nappies are KILLING my budget. I spend on average £2.50 - £3.00 a week on nappies for my toddler as long as I can get them on special offer so it's sometimes a bit more. When my newborn comes along I will be looking at an extra £3.00 a week on top of that!

My toddler will be 21months once the baby arrives so hopefully not in nappies for too long! I don't know if it's worth just keeping her in sposies until she's potty trained and just starting with nappies for the newborn? I'm not fussed about the environmental, chemicals issues etc. with sposies although I know this is important to some people :-)

I am thinking of starting elimination communication with my toddler when I start maternity leave at 34weeks ish but I don't know if it'll be too late then. And if it would be too much work to continue it when I have a newborn too!

I can't afford the initial outlay of Bumgenius, Tots Bots etc. I could budget absolute maximum which would have to include everything and could probably top it up with another £50 or so when baby is 6 months or older. Can it be done?

I love the idea of traditional terry squares with nippas, wraps and I'm guessing they need a fleece liner or some sort? Do I have any other options or am I destined for sposies again?

Please help a newbie!

We live in a soft water area (I think anyway) and have a 6kg load washing machine/tumble dryer. I generally wash everything on a 40 degree 1 hour quick wash (our stupid washing machine doesn't have a 30 degree wash, it's either 40 or cold!). Is it okay to wash nappies on a 1 hour quick wash?

Also, we use the following washing powders:

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/Produ.../?id=267596714

Now, I want to wash our nappies together with our clothes. But I have read that nappies need less than the "recommended" amount of washing powder, and I'm worried that if I only use a tablespoon of washing powder for pooey nappies plus all our clothes, it won't wash everything properly and we'll to end up with poo on our clothes! :dohh: Who here actually uses only a teeny bit of powder for their clothes/nappies, and does everything come out okay? Don't your clothes start smelling after a while?
