alright, well. my periods have never been very regular and it had never been much of a surprise to me before. the last time i was sexually involved was about 6-7 months ago, the relations were unprotected.
needless to say, a few weeks later i contacted my obgyn and scheduled a appointment to rule out pregnancy. the urine test came back negative, and my period never showed. i never thought much of it and went on with my normal routines.
now, it has been about 6-7 months and in the time span i have came down with many pregnancy symptoms that i merely related to my body changing. sore breasts, nausea, and frequent headaches. about a month ago i began feeling movements resembling fetus movement. as well, in the last three months alone i have gained fifteen pounds which is a rare occurrence itself, as i am, and always have been a very small girl. a seemingly perfect bump has formed, perfect for how far along i would hypothetically be.
after having a few classmates ask me when i was due, i rushed out and bought four home pregnancy tests to be completely sure. much to my surprise, two of the tests were positive. while the other two were negative.
when i returned home for break from college i explained the situation to my mother. she immediately rushed me to the family doctor. while he is not a obgyn, he examined my stomach and pelvic area and claimed that he "was 100% sure this is a pregnancy." in result, he sent me to the lab for urine and blood testing.
now, the urine test came back negative, which was no surprise. the blood test also came back negative. my doctor was shocked. he had no other explanation other than pregnancy. he has ordered a ultrasound for me tomorrow morning and i am quite nervous at what the other possibilities could be if not pregnancy. have any ladies been through the same issue, only to find out that they were, in fact, pregnant?

as i was charting/POAS etc before i conceived i know when i ovulated (within a day or two). it was on CD14/15 so therefore is my EDD more likely to be 2 weeks behind the dates the dr gave me???

im 27 weeks into my first pregnancy and all is going fantastically well so far  apart from being in so much pain latly that even moving is impossible so OH has gone to the chipshop ( as i know their chips are safe) but i really fancied a rack of ribs so his gone to hunt some out . the shops have said that in general ribs are gluten free but being made in a glutenous envirometn that they can not guarentee non contamination

The point really to this is that i was wandering what the effects would be should i consume any gluten during pregnancy. having it before was horrible and made me feel dreadfull , sick headachey stomach problems etc but if i was to consume it during pregnancy would it just have the same effects? Would it harm the baby at this stage at all ??

Since being pregnant I have been taking way more vitamins. I take a B Complex with breakfast, calcium with morning snack, fiber pill with lunch and a fiber pill and prenatal vitamins with dinner. I occassionally take a zinc suppliment if I've been exposed to large crowds of people. My doctor wants me to take magnesium now too. And in a few weeks an iron suppliment. Ugh. I only used to take a fiber pill and a multi-vitamin before. What are you ladies taking?

I'm 33 weeks on Friday but is it possible to be further along than we thought at this stage?

I know it can be possible before the dating scan etc, but how accurate are they? Could my baby have measured small at the 12 week scan so they got the date wrong or is that not how it works?

The reason I'm asking is because I went to anti-natal last weekend and I was the same size...if not bigger than the girls 36/38 weeks!

Or could it just be because I'm petite (5ft 1.5)

A lot of people are now starting to say that they think I will have babygirl soon because of the size of me so I was just wondering if it was actually possible to be more than 33 weeks along and not know it?

xo xo

And I know that I ovulated on the 17th as I did an ovulation test! Anyway... I have been studying my photo trying to determine the sex of my baby.

My housemate is organising me a baby shower, and we were thinking of having it during the 4 weeks my OH is travelling. The date we've decided is March 11th, which would be when I'm 29 weeks. Is that too early?
We've found a lovely bar to host it in, and they've been really good with balloons and decorations etc, and said they're more than happy for us to take cupcakes etc :)
My other question is, whos name do you put on invitations? My housemate is organising it, but she doesn't really know any of my friends. But it seems a bit strange to put my own name on them? What sort of information would you put in the invites? Its starting at 3pm, so hopefully people won't be expecting food, as the prices quoted for a buffet were ridiculous! And the food isn't anything special!

I was named after an actor from Hill Street Blues Kiel Martin, I was going to be Kiel (kyle) if I was a boy and my dad decided to add the two EE on the end and make it Kielee (Kylie).

It confuses the hell out of most people trying to pronounce it, I get Keeley and Kayleigh, alot people think it's ok to tell me my names spelt wrong. No it's not thank you I know how to spell my own name :dohh:
Bouncy chair
Nappy wrapper
None of these things I would want to ask my Dad for as they're a bit small/personal. We have kept everything from Earl, and we even still have the travel system in good working order lol.

Help! Plus size maternity clothes in UK

Hello all

I just wondered if anyone had any helpful advice. I want to buy a few basics for my maternity wardrobe - I want to keep it as minimal...

Hello all

I just wondered if anyone had any helpful advice. I want to buy a few basics for my maternity wardrobe - I want to keep it as minimal as possible. I'm a size 24 (well, 22-24) and all I want is a pair of trousers for work, a pair of jeans and a few tops... Not much to ask I thought!

Well, I've been looking online today and I've been almost in tears (but that could be the hormones!). Even places I've found which actually DO plus size maternity (and to be clear, there is nothing on the high street, places like Evans do not do maternity wear) have no jeans in my size.

I would love to avoid Simply Be (although they also do not have any jeans for me) because I had a terrible experience with them last year which took months to resolve. However, they seem to be the only place which carries trousers suitable for work.

I found that H&M had some stuff, but again not the things I want. I've looked on ebay. I've googled every combination of 'plus size maternity uk' that I can think of!

I was even going to order from Old Navy in the US at the end, but a basket of clothes costing £110 had £70 shipping and customs added on...

Any advice is gratefully accepted! I should also point out that I need to keep costs down as much as possible...

Cheers

Fran

How did you introduce your pets to your newborn and how did the pet take to the baby initially?

We have a cat and shes used to a nice quiet flat with no disruptions to her routines. Apart from occasionally my brother brings his kids over and she hates them and goes and hides until they've gone.

I am wondering whether to let her come and investigate and sniff the baby and touch her but then knowing our cat she will just go out and not come near, but i think at some point she will want to know what this new addition is to her life.

Then im not sure how protective i will be over the baby and may not want the cat putting her face in the baby's face and touching her blanket with her dirty paws from the garden!!

I know you shouldn't use second hand mattresses, and car seats should be new unless you're 100% sure it hasn't been in a collision etc, but is there anything else you shouldn't buy second hand? Or that you wouldn't use second hand?
I thought about getting a second hand maternity pillow until people on here pointed out that they dribble and drool on theirs :haha:
I've found a cheap, second hand electric breast pump, with instructions etc which I'm really interested in, but I can't decide if its a little bit gross to use a second hand pump?

Is anybody else keeping your baby's gender and name choice a secret from family and friends?

For the longest time, I thought I would share this information, but my husband and I decided that it would be more fun to keep it to ourselves. I also don't want to deal with possible pressure of people not liking our baby name choices or referring to our baby as a 'princess' or 'macho man'. We just want to enjoy the pregnancy and be excited about a healthy baby rather than getting hung up on all the little details.

I just found out I *may* be pregnant... (Will wait till I see a doctor to confirm and officially get super excited :happydance:) but was wondering how you guys shared the news of your pregnancy with your SO or family??

I'm trying to think of ways I could surprise my husband, so I thought we could share ideas!

My husband recently got a Mont Blanc pen and for the first few days, he would go on and on talking about his pen. It comes in this black box, which happens to fit my pregnancy test stick perfectly. lol I was thinking I could hide it in there for him to open, but I'm not sure he'll appreciate me putting something I peed on in his box.. hahahahaha

I managed to go 3 years without my husband hearing me pass gas. Darting to the other room, holding it in until I about exploded, and not to mention the poor dog was blamed more than a few times. I am very self-conscious about doing that in front of someone, even though my husband does it plenty in front of me. Well, tonight while getting off the couch, "pooooooof", the silence was broken. My husband just stared at me, amazed and trying his best to process what he had just heard come from his wife's derriere. Well, I guess the mystery's over!

Anyone somehow finding relief from this not-so-flattering side-effect of pregnancy? It's somewhat comical, but the gas pains often hurt so bad I can barely move until it passes.

I have tried Phazyme, but really had no relief. I am currently 9w6d, and I'm told this is very normal since the high levels of progesterone during pregnancy slow smooth muscle function.

Has anyone got one? Are they reliable? Are you glad you got one?

Just wondering if i should scrap the pliko pramette idea and get an icandy. I really havent got a clue about prams having never had the slightest interest in such things before. It looked ok in the shop and had good reviews online but im having second thoughts now everyone is raving about these icandys!

Having said all of this, ive never really been a dedicated follower of fashion (apart from the shellsuit when i was 14). Maybe i should go with whatever i want instead of getting pulled along with the latest popular thing!

(posted this in second tri as well sorry if you have read it already!)

Maybe you ladies can help me out with what I am seeing here. First a little info --We opted to not find out the sex until birth but don't get me wrong I will speculate and scrutinize all my ultrasound photos to possible sneak a peak and that is fine as long as it it not confirmed by a doctor I am fine with it!! Anyways went in other day at 22 weeks for the big scan and I think I see a wee wee on the left and what LOOKS like testicles in the abdomen. I googled it and I guess they don't drop down until week 28 or 30 so is that possibly what I am seeing?? It looks like a sideways heart....(am hoping for a boy that is why I am looking so hard at this LOL!) What do you ladies think? Would the testicles be visible on ultrasound in the abdomen like that or is that something else I am seeing??

Hi all you twin mamas out there!

I am currently 6w pregnant and hoping hoping HOPING for twins. I got pregnant off my first Clomid cycle, 50 mg days 5-9. I know clomid gives you approx. a 10% increased chance for twins... hoping I'm in that 10%!

My question for you is, when did you find out you were pregnant with twins? Did you have any symptoms beforehand different from normal pregnancies? Any stronger cramps or anything? Did you suspect at all?

My symptoms so far are being pretty durn tired , moderate cramps off and on on both sides of my uterus (and generalized all over) [OUCH sometimes :nope:- but no blood or spotting], and heartburn. No MS or anything but I know every body is different. Also, during the TWW, I had "twinges" on both sides of my uterus up until 8 DPO when they disappeared.

So in summary... no clue. Tell me about your twin pregnancies!

Hi, I was hoping some of you ladies could give your opinions on this.

My parents and little sister want me and my 2 boys to go away with them for 2 weeks in the 2nd week of August. My due date is 4th September. I wouldn't mind going as its not abroad but the thing that's worrying me is, its so close to my due date and during my last 2 pregnancies, from around 36 weeks my blood pressure has rocketed, had to spend time in hospital and put on medication. I'm very certain that the same will happen in this pregnancy and I don't know whether I should risk it going away, i'm in 2 minds.

What do you ladies think?

Hi Ladies,

Was wondering if any of you have taken L-lysine during pregnancy, and if so did the baby turn out healthy?

I asked my OB/GYN if it was safe and her response was that it was PG category B (I've read otherwise online) and that I should only take it if I absolutely need to. I have never had a cold sore before, but two years ago a blood test showed that I had been exposed to the cold sore virus at some point. When I told my Dr this, she said that I shouldn't be taking it prophylactically, but that if I ever actually get a cold sore, to consider taking it then. Her stance is that a pregnant woman should never take any medication/treatment unless it's necessary.

Thoughts?

I am TTC #1 (testing in 11 days!) and stopped taking lysine when we started trying, but now am getting a tingle in my lip and popped a 500mg tab today.

Thanks!

Hi all i was wondering if any of you could help me a little. I had a 28wk growth scan yesterday as they class all my previous children as SGA (small gestational age) all under the 10th centile m,y highest was the 7th centile, though my smallest was 6lb 1oz so i don't think that small. With each pregnancy i've had growth scans but after this first one yesterday i was told i have to come in weekly for a doppler scan and growth scan every other.

I have two measurements on my notes under doppler reading which are
3.58 and 4.75. Do any of you know what the normal range is at 28 weeks?

They didn't tell me much just that i had to go as they need to monitor my bloodflow from the placenta to my baby. Im concerned as i have never experienced this before so i figure my numbers are too high they found a problem and want to monitor it. They were also asking if i'd had any problems in previous pregnancies and if i smoked!! what does this all mean. Why would you normally get weekly doppler scans?

Sorry its long but i'm quite worried about it.

Is anyone going to pregnancy yoga at the Edinburgh Pregnancy and Parenting Centre? I've just put my name on the waiting list for either Monday or Thursday evening classes, and I'd love to meet some of you!

The sling meets are awesome, too. I've been to one, and planning on going to the next one on the 19th of February to get some practice tying on my new hungry caterpillar stretchy wrap. They have a properly weighted newborn baby doll to practice with - it's a little creepy but if you've rarely handled babies before, it's super useful. (Also the place is FULL of babies and toddlers, just makes me smile hugely and remember why I'm going through all this pregnancy crap!!)

I think when my son is coming I don't want people to know and I definitely don't want the Facebook world knowing! I feel like people can be so nosy. I don't feel people need to know how I am doing and how many centimeters my cervix has stretched!

Hey everyone,

I thought I'd start a thread where people could share their success stories using vitamin B complex. I've been TTC#1 for 5 cycles now and I think my problem might be low progesterone and a short luteal phase. Sometimes I get almost a week of spotting before AF and my last 2 cycles were only 23-25 days. I just started taking Vitamin B50 complex yesterday after reading that it could help.

So did any of you get pregnant after taking Vitamin B complex? What dosage did you take and how long did you take it before finally getting pregnant? Please offer some hope to those of us trying the Vitamin B to finally get our :bfp:!!

Here is the situation. Dates of conception could either be June 19, June 24, or June 28. My LMP is June 12. My very first ultrasound at like 8 weeks said my due date was March 14. The doctor told me stick with March 18. My 19 week appointment for gender scan said March 17, so my doctor once again told me to stick with March 18 and that it was right on target. However, I am now 33 weeks and she is measuring like exactly a week ahead on growth. I would really like to know which of those dates would be more likely, even though they are very very close. My cycles are regular. Also, used an OPK and got a smiley on the 27. So I think it was the 28, but not sure if those are very reliable. All the help would be appreciated!

Hi ladies
We have two loved cats but were worried about how we could keep them out of baby's room (our cats do tend to "Mark their territory!").
We didn't want to have to have the door closed- I need to see in and out of the room, we want air to flow (the room gets quite cold if shut off) and we wanted the cats to still feel "part of things".

So- my clever other half has made and fitted a screen door type. It goes over the top of the main door- so that can still be closed if needed, it is fully see through, air flows through, and cats claws do nothing to it. It has solved all the issues I had with the cats and the baby!

We are Berkshire based- and I know he is making some up for a friend o ours with a dog, happy to make some for other pregnant pet lovers too :) just private message me.

Lots of love :) xx

I got my BFP yesterday and the test said I am 2-3 weeks gone. This would mean I am due in October. However I had really long cycles. My last full one was 42 days and if they base it on my last period being on te 15th December will they give me me edd in September?? I'm really confused!!

Can't help but feel a tiny bit annoyed/disappointed at the moment. I know its nothing major to complain about but you know when something just irks you??

Last night my sister walked into the living room and before she sat next to me she said "youve got bigger since yesterday" which is an ok thing to say. I just replied with that I knew and couldn't wait to have the baby and get back into shape. She made some reference to my stomach and when I said I would definitely get back into shape she just screwed he face up and walked off. Mum says she is jealous because she has been told for the past 2 years to lose weight by the doctor and hasn't bothered. She'll do 10 mins exercise once in a blue moon and then eat two trays of chocolate brownies.

Then today we are all meant to be going for a family lunch to celebrate the 30 week mark, just for fun really and as I haven't heard from FOB in over a month now it was something to lighten the mood and signal moving on. She has been right as rain all morning and suddenly isn't coming anymore. Apparently she took 10 puffs of her inhaler this morning and now has the shakes... I just find it odd that on all these important dates [to me] they are made about her. At 23 and 24 weeks we were meant to have a family meal but both weeks the food went cold as she was late back from her therapy session and just boasted the whole time about how her meds have gone up.

I sound jealous and I know that is a nasty trait in itself but for one little moment I would like something to be positive about this pregnancy and it seems if it is not FOB then it is my sister. I have told her I don't want her at the birth because of her dramatics and she keeps making suggestions shes going to be there anyway.

I am just fed up with her self destructive attitude, the fact she revels in her own drama and how everyone seems to dance to her tune because she threatens to top herself.

.... bitter rant over.

We are taking a trip to Hawaii with my husband's family in May, and I am wondering how safe spray tanning is while pregnant? I would love to not look like a white sheet lying on the sand, if at all possible. :winkwink:

I called the two local tanning centers that offer spray tanning, and as I imagined the teenagers working there had no idea. My OB's nurse says it's safe as far as she knows, but I'd like to see some information for myself that is 100% sound.

I have never spray tanned before, but I'm interested. Anyone have any info on this? ..or tips?

Hey all! My sister had her 18 week scan today and found out that after 4 boys she's finally having a little girl! What with our babies being due a month apart we've both been really excited to find out the genders and now this little girl's been announced I'm getting so impatient to find out what this little sprout is!

For Christmas our mum bought us both a 3D/4D scan package, my sister's decided to wait for hers until baby is a bit bigger but I'm thinking of going for mine soon to find out what I'm having.

Anybody have an idea how soon they'd be able to tell? Not necessarily a definite answer but just an idea of what he or she might be. I'm 14 weeks on sunday and don't think I can wait another 6 weeks to find out!

Hi everyone!

I'm starting to pack my baby bag and have bought everything except newborn toiletries (shampoo, oil etc). Can you tell me from your own experience which brands and products you found best? Plus, the following:

Will I need a shampoo and a separate bath product for the first month or will a top-to-toe suffice? Has anyone used no products and still found it easy to clean the baby? I'm thinking wash cloth and water and then a light oil massage afterwards.

Baby lotion or baby oil? Which brands?

Nappy Rash Cream or Vaseline? If so, which nappy rash cream?

I have a sensitivity to Johnson's baby lotion so I'm thinking I shouldn't get that for LO either. Can anyone recommend any other product in lieu of that? Or will oil after a bath suffice for moisturizing?

I just want to use as little artificial products as possible till I find out how reactive the baby's skin will be. But till then, I need to buy SOMETHING! Sorry if these questions sound naive at this stage but there are so many products out there, I'm totally confused.

Oh and someone's recommended a Burt's Bee's starter set. Any reviews on that?

Thanks! :flower:

There are only THREE Star Wars movies and they were all made before 1985.

There are only THREE Indiana Jones movies and the Russians weren't in any of them.

Real movies don't need 3D to be interesting.

I'm sure the list will grow and grow, but this definitely was a humorous start. There's still some debate as to which James Bond is the best. As DH put it, that's not a matter of religion, while Star Wars is.

I was wondering was your baby active or quiet in your womb, if so did you see the connection with their personality once they were born??

My first daughter moved around a bit in my belly but no where near as much as my second daughter, she drove me nuts!!

As newborns & babies, my elderst was the most quiet easy baby ever but my second sure was a challenge. My elderst daughter who is now 9yrs is still the much more quiet, reserved child, where as my second daughter who is now 7yrs is full of beans, always on the go!!

So for me I could definatley see a connection, how about you??

We're happy to announce the birth of our daughter, Fionnuala Georgina Samis (Nuala or Nunu to her friends). She was due Dec 29th and finally arrived naturally on Jan 7th, weighing 8lbs 9oz.

I was in early labour for 24 hours, and active for a mere 3. Unfortunately, I arrived too late to get an epidural. Fortunately, because I had a midwife, had no complications and did a drug free delivery, I was out of there in less than 4 hours! WOOT!

Big brother Joe and Dad are delighted. :)

We like : Aurelia May : Aura or Relia for short and May would be her middle name - would we be cruel to call our little girl this? Is it a pretty name? Too different?

Let me know

We went for Chinese Food last night (to celebrate Chinese New Year) to my fav spot, which I have been going to since I was a baby, and he told us all about the year of the dragon. This is the year of the golden dragon. It only happens every 60 years, which is every 5 cycles of the Chinese calander. It also happens to be the 6,000th golden dragon year! He said that when the golden dragon years happen the Chinese population will jump 15%-18% from everyone trying to have lucky babies. So hubby and I are SUPER excited to hear such amazing news. We were already looking forward to our lil dragon baby but now its even more awesome. Def feel like this is fate. Can't wait to meet our lil one! Just wanted to say congrats and yay to all the 2012 mommies out there!

You used to get full sized products. Now everything's mini. They even put an air bag in the box to take up some room! My mom still has her box from when my sister was born 4 years ago. It's SO much bigger than this diddy thing. :growlmad:

Really random...

... but lately, over the past few days, I have been having hip pain. It stretches over the back of both my hips and is making it very uncomfortable to walk, sleep or even sit. It is not very painful per say, just extremely uncomfortable and if I walk for too long it becomes exacerbation and then begins to ache more and then hurt.

I asked my MW yesterday and she said it was a. baby and b. I had put on too much weight. I carry a lot of muscle from previous exercise routines and have continued to maintain to an extent through yoga daily [which she has told me not to give up] but have put on a couple of dress sizes.

I am an emotional wreck at the moment anyway and don't overly want to go to the Doctor to be told I am fat. I was just wondering if any of you ladies have experienced this?

Probably me being a silly moo again.

I got my BFP last Thursday :happydance: and at the same time was floored by a tummy bug:sick:. I have a few questions:

- has anyone had this in pregnancy, if so, how long did it take to clear?

- should I be worried as it is so early in pregnancy (I'm basially 4 weeks + 5)?

I have seen the GP, however, my symptoms weren't fully developped and I had no temp, so she decided to let it run its course (no pun). Also, I had some spotting at the time of BFP so it was very tricky knowing what pain came from what issue...

Hello ladies. I am 14 weeks and a three days along. I have emetophobia, the fear of vomiting, and as well as being around others who are sick. It makes normaly life very difficult. School was hard, working is hard, just living with someone else is hard. Husband and I are expecting our first baby. Instead of being super happy and excited I'm terrified. Got through the first trimester, but now I'm really worried about labor. I heard people get sick during it. Eek! Also I read that pregnant women have weak immune systems during pregnancy. Which worries me all the damn time. Any advice or anything on trying to relax and not let the fear take over? Of course my co-worker came into work sick today. Totally not helping me stay calm. Anyone with good news about not getting sick during labor?

Thanks

I had a hard time getting used to the idea of having a baby until my second scan the other week. Then it suddenly sunk in and i've been going mad buying him more clothes than he'll need and all sorts of goodies.

The other day I randomly decided that I need to make a scrap book, and when he's 18 i'll give it to him and embarrass him.

I'm planning to include little letters and things that i'll write to the baby during pregnancy.. just telling him about things like how he kicked the midwife when she was trying to listen to his heart beat and what a little bugger he's being :angelnot:

I'm also going to have lots of pictures of things such as Daddy putting the cot together.. bump.. scan pictures.. pictures of his family etc.
Baby poems for when he is here, along with a favourite bedtime story, foot and hand prints, and get every family member to write him a small piece of advice for when he's all grown up :P

But basically..

Has anyone ever done a scrap book for their baby?
Are you thinking of doing one for any future babies?
What sort of things did/would you include?
Did you make anything else for your baby?
