Hi girls, for those of you who read my thread about maybe getting counselling i thought id let you know how my appointment went.

Well.... It was not as scary as i though!

I was very nervous as it was the first meeting with my new doctor also who happened to be very laid back and understanding.

I explained how i felt, the past, how silly it felt etc and i asked if i was normal lol!

He said i was perfectly normal and that i just need to let go of my past as i have a lovely boyfriend, new hous and a gorgeous baby on the way. He said he'l arrange for a counseller to meet me every few weeks and get me to cut the ties to my past.

He also said that people underestimate how much pressure pregnancy puts on women menatlly as well as pysical. Hormones everywhere!!! I had pcos aswell before pregnancy which strangly corrected itself when i fell preggers. He said that hormonal inbalance can affect your feelings etc.

Feel very positive now! Thatnks for all the supportive comments girls xxxx

so im on a 5weeks course called "parentcraft" once a week for 3hours ish..witch is run by a midwife and health lady

well today we did baby items...

so im on a 5weeks course called "parentcraft" once a week for 3hours ish..witch is run by a midwife and health lady

well today we did baby items e.g cots, bottles, clothes

what you need and what you dont and what could harm your baby in the long run and the best stuff...

We got told today DO NOT buy cot bumpers since when baby is little they can sometimes roll one side but not roll back and can roll there face into the bumper and not be able to breath

Baby walkers incurage(sp?) walking on tip toes witch can make problems in the future with the muscle's or some part of the leg anyway...

Dummys... if you let your baby have a dummy to sleep give it to them everynight to sleep since last year looking at cot deaths it showed that alot of the babies who sadly died where used to having a dummy when sleeping but had not had one the night the sad thing happened  but try not to give your baby a dummy at all because it can couse speach problems

Baby monitors... Dont buy one with a heart beat thing unless you want to be getting up alot since babys sometimes just hold there breath for a few seconds witch on certain ones will set off the alarm after just 1/2seconds

we was also told the "Real" nappys can be very hard to use but muslins can be used if you run out as a temp nappy till you can get home

and there was lots of stuff but i thought id ask your opion on the mayjor things above..

have you ever been told or herd of any of this ?

what do you think or believe about soem of the things we was all told today ?

Hello ladies!
I know its normal for your skin to change during pregnancy but mine has taken a very bad turn!
Over the last 4 weeks anytime I have a tiny spot it turns into imbpetigo! Its awfull! I would understand if I had been putting grubby hands all over it but I havent! Today Iv developed my third lot of imbpetigo in less that a month! I went to the doctors the first time and he gave me some cream for it which I admit does work after a while but surely this isnt normal?
Should I be concerned and contact the doctor again?
Thanks
Ashleigh

Morning ladies, I am now 16 weeks pregnant and as of yet haven't felt movements. I already have a little boy and thought that due to this being my 2nd pregnancy I may have felt movements by now.

At work when I have been running around like a mad woman and I sit down I sometimes feel slight flutters however, this could be wind and has only happened a couple of times.

I know it may still be too early even though this is my 2nd pregnancy but I can't help but worry.

Anyone else's own experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I got this advice from my doctor today after informing him I am flying over to Hawaii on Friday for our honeymoon.

One baby aspirin the day before I fly.
One baby aspirin the day I fly.

Compression socks.

Loose, comfortable clothing (wearing velour gymsuits from Motherhood Maternity...very soft and warm!)

Get up and walk around the plane once every two hours (so much for getting my much looked forward to sleep on the ride over)

Plenty of water (I'll need to take those bi-hourly walks to the ladies' room!)

Just thought I'd pass this along...I am thinking the same would go for anyone traveling in a car a long distance as well.

I can't say enough good things about the store!

Very reasonable prices.

I was able to find bermuda shorts and capri's in December...very much needed seeing as I leave for Hawaii on Friday for our honeymoon and I didn't have a single "pant" item I could fit into from this past summer!

I bought a pair of "flare bottom" jeans that would pass for a regular pair of jeans instead of looking "hokey".

I also ended up walking out with three pairs of shorts, one pair of capri's, and two velour jumpsuits for the long airplane ride.

Just wonderful! I know I'll definitely be going back there!:happydance::happydance::happydance:

A couple of times over the past 2 weeks I thought my right nipple was leaking a bit but when I checked nothing seemed to be there, so I ignored it and hoped it would go away, lol. Now since last night I've been leaking a lot, but only from my one side! Not even a drop from my left.. nothing like with my right where I thought maybe it had but I wasn't sure.

Is this normal to only have leakage from one side, lol, or am I a freak of nature or something? My right is the only one that really "hurts" too, ugh.

Are any of your LOs in breech position? I think mine is. When I went for my 20 week scan they put on the notes 'breech'. I didn't think much of it at the time cos I thought baby is actually lying horizontally at that stage and she'll move into position a few weeks down the line.

My bump has grown since then and I am feeling kicks practically non-stop every day. But they are all in the lower part of my tummy, ie. below my belly button. Do you think this sounds like a breech position? Wouldn't I be feeling kicks higher up near my ribs if she was head down in the 'proper' position?

I've got a midwife appt on thursday so I'll ask her anyway but just wondered if any of you have any advice/opinions, etc??

Okay so a bit confused!!!
I have had a jerky movement in my tummy, like something twitching quite a few times today and I have never felt it before! Should I be worried or is it baby? Thing is, it doesn't hurt, it just really caught me by surprise. It was jerky and made me sit upright! It wasn't gas, definately not, and wasn't the thumping I normally have felt. Was it a first kick? Later I could feel it if I placed my hand gently over my tummy. What could it be if not baby? It just feels strange.

Thanks in advance... and please don't tear me apart, I already feel guilty as it is :hissy:

OK, so deciding first names was pretty easy actually, I've wanted to name a boy after my grandad for ages and we have a couple of girls names ready.

I've also always wanted to give our LO the middle name that runs in my family, it's gender neutral, so would go with either sex.

And most importantly, hubby and I have been planning on giving the LO my surname, which I kept when we got married.

Fine, three names, no problem.

BUT, for a boy, hubby also wants to include his grandad's name. OK, I can cope with two middle names for a boy.

BUT I recently decided that I would like to include hubby's surname as a middle name too. I don't know what changed, but I woke up one morning feeling that I wanted to. After I shared this decision with hubby he confessed that his mum had given him a bit of agro about LO not having his surname (see previous posts on my relationship with MIL!!) So if it means a quieter life then I'm more than happy to do it.

But that's way too many names for my taste! Especially for a boy.

I don't want to drop any of them really, but can't bear the thought of our LO having so many middle names they refuse to use any of them!

The little compromise I have come to within myself is to drop the family middle name. My parents didn't actually give it to me officially, I chose to take it up when I was a teenager and found out where it came from (it being my mum's middle name). I would hope that our child made the same decision as they got older, but if they didn't it would get lost :-(

I don't know what to do folks. What do you think? Is 5 names too long?!

I have felt tappings since about 19 weeks and they're more regular now but not much stronger at all - I've since been told I have an anterior placenta which explains things but I can't wait til it gets stronger!
I got to see him twice as the first time I went in he had his head on my bladder lookin upwards and he wasnt in the right position to have a clear view of his lips and face.

Hi again. I posted message on nov 18 bout spotting, I did have very slight spotting again after that so decided to go to gp to have it checked out. I am 15 weeks. doc said he doesn't think its serious, but if it gets worse with bright red bleeding or cramps then to come straight in. he then checked position of baby and said everything was where it should be so that was good to hear and also he tried to hear baby's heartbeat warning me in process that it was very early to hear anything yet but to my amazement we did, a very strong heartbeat which the doc said was unusual this early so I went home very happy. I have app next week with nurse to check things again then at 21 weeks i have my 1st scan so can't wait till then. good luck to all tou pregnant mums hope all goes well for you

I'm confused! I was given a requisition for an ultrasound from my doctor and told that I could go ahead and book a scan at my mother's office whenever I had the time. I called this morning (didn't get mom, got someone who put me on hold for 5 minutes) and was told that I missed my ultrasound - it was last week!

I have one booked for wednesday, but what the hell man? Why would my doctor book an ultrasound then not tell me about it? And she didn't do it through my mom's office or the other girls there would've put the requisition on mom's desk. It was embarrassing getting told to be sure I showed up for the next appointment.

Ugh. Doctors!

Hi Mummies, May just me worrying over nothing, but has anyone heard of contracting chicken pox twice? i had it in my 20's, without a doubt it was it and confirmed by the doctor. recently my brother in law has got it and been away from work the last 2 weeks, asked my midwife last week if i was at risk and she says not, if i have definitely had the virus then i'm ok..just heard you can get it twice and i am feeling a bit under the weather..is it wise checking it out with the G.P?

Thanks For Listening

I slept sooooo well last night but am seriously suffering for it this morning :hissy:

I normally fall asleep on my back then roll over and stay on my side for the rest of the night. OH said I was dead to the world this morning and I didn't even hear his alarm clock buzzing for half an hour, which is a huge rarity for me!

Things is, I don't use any support when I sleep on my side and now my lower back and hips are aching when I sit down and when I move. What do you find works best? Should I shove a pillow between my legs and rest my bump on it or should I invest in a proper support? I didn't do this when pg last time and if I'm feeling like this now with only a smallish bump, the aches will only get worse...

Your thoughts girls?

Thanks as always,

The more I speak to you all, the more I realise there is a distinct lack overall of good quality care for those who desperately need it. I have had some great people take care of me, but it's those midwives who seemingly have no time to call you back, and the doctors who insist nothing is wrong without even checking you properly that really concern me. Having a baby involves two lives, and is a miracle in itself. I often wonder why the health service doesn't see it that way.
I don't doubt there are fantastic people we have all met, but for every one of them there is another to go and spoil it. xx

So worried, myself and hubby can't afford to get each other presents this year. We had a very hard year, as I was very ill and he had to stay with me and so we both missed lots of work. Really worried about money everytime my hubby checks our account it seems worse. I am trying really hard to stay positive. I am hoping that once the baby is born I will stay at home all week and then perhaps have a job on the side for the weekends to help out...just worried because we can't get all the nice things we want to for baby and I know that doesn't matter, because its material stuff but it's still hard xx

I'm 16 weeks along and off work for the third time since I got pregnant. Like lots of pregnant ladies, I seem to go down with a cold at the drop off a hat, and then this triggers my asthma and makes me pretty miserable. As a school teacher, it's really hard to keep away from germs because in a big school like mine one kid or another is always getting sick.

I have read that in some countries like the US, you get the flu vaccination as standard if you are pregnant, and that the UK government is thinking of doing the same thing: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6079878.stm

Do people think it is a good idea to get the jab? Are there health concerns for the baby?

I know getting the jab won't stop me getting colds, but it might stop them developing into anything worse with a high temperature that could harm the baby.

Advice would be great! Becca

I had this around 2 weeks ago, and now again :(

Was coming to work this morning and on the train I got extremely dizzy and had a hot flush - sweat dripping off me.

I had a fruit juice with me so drank that and just tried to relax, it was pretty much over in 10 mins, but now I feel EXTREMELY tired and have a bit of a dull headache and still feel a bit dizzy (at least i do not feel 'all there').

Is this anything to worry about???

I'm just wondering whether to stay in work or go home, however going home means a train journey of an hour again, and not sure if I can be bothered doing that right now.

Any opinions?

*Update*
Just called my midwife and she says (like I thought) it is perfectly normal, but she wants me to come in tomorrow for a blood test to check my iron.
She just took her cart and RAMMED it right into my back:hissy: I was lucky to catch myself before I fell down...as if pregnancy doesn't give me enough as a back ache as it is now its SUPER sore  I don't think ladybug was affected by it as she's as active as ever but its just the principle of it! She didn't even appologize and its quite obvious I'm pregnant as someone who saw what had happened told her that she was a bitch for doing that to a pregnant lady. She just sorta huffed and walked on I honestly don't know if I can handle all this this holiday season! :hissy: I usually LOVE Christmas shopping but people like her are absolutely ruining it for me  I think I might take a long bath later on and try to sooth my back as it is still throbbing in pain  Maybe I'll try shopping again in a couple days and hopefully it won't be this bad.

sorry for the long post ladies that just really ruined my whole day

So, this is the deal..... lol

I have a son named Casey and a daughter named Randee. We are so proud that we are having another boy but, I'm being picky of how I want it..

I need help with a boy's name that has: 2 syllables, can go either boy or girl, and ends in the E sound. If you look at my childrens names: Casey and Randee you can kind of understand what I'm talking about. For instance, I like Andy (but too close to Randee) Jordy (but OH doesn't like it) and Jordy.. I know it's kind of complicating and I hope I explained it well enough but if anyone that has any ideas please let me know so I can try and decide something. The only name we have agreed on so far is Jesse... Please give me some ideas???? Thanks so much!!!!

ive started to look at these as the prices are such that we will probably need to save to get whichever one we choose.

I really liked the icandy cherry, but i've been quoted £410 for the carry cot, car seat and pushchair and i've heard bad reviews about them - i certainly don't want to pay that much for something i may have problems with! Can anyone recommend something similar i.e. lightweight, with carrycot, car seat and pushchair? I'm looking at the graco quattro TSB but it seems a bit heavy.
thanks ladies

Okay, so reality is starting to bite! I've just been on a tour of my maternity hospital and i've now realised that the whole birth bit is now...

Okay, so reality is starting to bite! I've just been on a tour of my maternity hospital and i've now realised that the whole birth bit is now inevitable. So i've been thinking all day about how i want to tackle the birth (in an ideal world..)

My hospital has just opened a brand new birth centre, and it's amazing. Massive private rooms, with aromatherapy, soft lights, birthing pool and all sorts of mats and slings for an active birth. Really gorgeous and calm looking, like a spa. It's made me think more about trying for a more natural birth, (as my Plan B is to scream for an epidural at the earliest point!)

I've also just got a Natal Hypnotherapy DVD to practice with - basically it aims to help you prepare and focus on dealing with the anxiety and fear of birth, and how to help yourself do as much as you can for yourself naturally.... I had originally thought it was all a load of bo**ocks, but now think, hey i may as well give it ago, as it can't do me any harm!!

What is everyone else planning? I know birth plans will probably go out the window, but i'm just trying to get my head around it a bit. I'm scared of gas and air as i hate feeling out of control and woozy. But then i\ve never had it before - can anyone enlighten me on it?

End of essay!! Just a bit excited about the whole thing now!! Amazing what a trip to a maternity unit can do!

Who is giving their baby the vitamin K injection?

After reading the leaflet about it two or three times, I've decided I'm not going for it. My thoughts are: we've evolved enough that our babies surely come out prepared, and don't need extra vitamins shot into them when they're born. I'd rather have things as natural as possible, so, no jab for my baby.

I think I've been doing pretty well about my HB leaving, but I haven't been able to bring myself to clean the house over the past week. I have to do...

I think I've been doing pretty well about my HB leaving, but I haven't been able to bring myself to clean the house over the past week. I have to do it today - I invited some friends over for dinner so that I would be forced to do it but... I can't bring myself to pick up his disgusting mess. AND I have to pack a whole bunch of his crap for him to get it out of the way so he can come pick it up.

Everytime I start I just get angry and depressed that I still have to clean up after him, even though he's gone and I'll be doing it for the rest of my life - making excuses for his mistakes and cleaning up his mess. He was a pig and there are all these half-empty coffee cups and dirty dishes laying around and take-out food boxes.

I get tired so easily, and it's exhausting even doing little bits. More so now because it's emotionally exhausting. On one hand I want to scrub every trace of him off of every surface of the house, but on the other I'm just reminded at every turn what a total loser he is. It also makes me think of how hard this is going to be on my own and I'm a little to prideful to ask my mom to help me clean (I'm embarrassed by the mess, she has such a clean house)

This is kind of a read and run, I know I've been complaining alot lately. Hopefully I can just straighten my back and do it instead of whining and carrying on. I'm strong, but it's always the little things like this that get me. :(

it was so funny one twin (the u/s technitian was calling him a bully LOL) who was flashing his bits willy nilly and got jealous when we took the scanner onto the other twin who was hunched up in a corner with his little arms over his head asif he was cowering!

big twin as we call the bully one lol coz he was a abit bigger was kicking little twin in the head and bullying him the whole time :O

i think im gonna name him damien! hahaha

ladies i SERIOUSLY reccomend these scans.

it took her a good 20 mins to see the 2nd tiddler as he was curled up in a ball fearing to move incase damein kicked him! so funny! we got 40 pics on a cd rom for £20 and double sided keyrings wich are great!

this is the only clear one we could get of baby 1 wich was the little one hunched in the corner, coz big twin was wanting all the attention!
