			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi everyone, <br />
<br />
My daughter is one week old today, and in the past 24 hours she's only had one BM (albeit a huge one!) She has had a LOT of wet diapers, but just the one poop... <br />
<br />
I'm BFing every 2 hrs (or more, if she demands it), and I know I'm producing milk because I occasionally leak, and I can hear her swallow when she sucks, and often there's milk at the corners of her mouth when she's done. But the lack of BMs has me concerned I'm not giving her enough (she had 1 large and 1 tiny BM yesterday, and 3 med-sized ones the day before). I'm down to my pre-pregnancy weight, which sort of freaks me out b/c I've been doing as my midwife suggested and eating the way I did while pregnant (several small, nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day), and definitely have NOT had the time or inclination to think about my weight since she was born. But the midwife also said most women find it hard to lose the last 10 lbs or so, as our bodies hold onto it in case baby needs it, so now I'm worried my weight loss is making me produce too little.<br />
<br />
This is my very long-winded way of asking whether LO might still be ok with just the 1 BM, since she's had about 9 wet diapers since yesterday? Or do you think I'm not producing enough? :nope:</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>So ladies - just typing for a bit of a rant really...<br />
<br />
Have any of you has the &quot;oh just express a few bottles and leave them for a bit&quot; or &quot; give them a bottle of formula - it won't harm them&quot; or even &quot; when are you going to start expressing so Oh can feed&quot;???<br />
<br />
I've recently had a few of these type of comments and they've really wound me up!!<br />
I just think people are clueless when it comes to breastfeeding and the bond it creates and how little they understand of just expecting to express so you can go out etc....<br />
<br />
Anyone else?!</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>So my partner fed my daughter for the first time ebm at 6pm (she's 4wks old) because she was upset and crying and woujdnt settle (I had left her at 530 after feeding her from 438-515)...<br />
<br />
I got home at 630 and since then she's had 5 very runny nappies! <br />
<br />
Could this be :<br />
<br />
A) she stressed herself so much in my absence as she was missing me or<br />
B) the EBM was someway not good enough altho it was expressed only yesterday and stored in back of fridge straight away?<br />
C) she doesn't like bottles etc?<br />
<br />
<br />
Any advice???</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>After 4 weeks of self doubt, constant worrying, posting 100 times a day on here and annoying all you ladies and I am so happy to say my LO got weighed today and he's gained 11oz this week. What a little porker! I feel so proud of myself, I did that! Its made it all worth it, screaming nipples, nursing marathons and sleepless nights. I had a really crappy labour and felt like a failure and this really has made up for it a little bit.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I started Expressing a week ago occasionally and got 2-4 ounces in the morning (bad or good?) and LO took to the Medela Calma bottle with a bit of distraction technique so that part is going OK. (I am going back to work in 3 weeks so I need to start getting LO used to a bottle of EBM and need to get myself a supply going). After a few times I've thought of a couple of questions that hopefully you can all answer for me.<ol style="list-style-type: decimal"><li><b><font color="RoyalBlue">I found that my milk in the fridge after only one day separates into a almost solid cream top and watery base. I know you are not supposed to shake breast milk so I just gently swirl the contents but the creamy part never fully mixes in and a bunch sticks to the sides of the bottle. Any suggestions? I don't want to lose all that good fatty stuff for my baby.</font></b><br /></li>
<li><b><font color="Red">How much breast milk should my LO be getting in a bottle each time? - right now I'm limiting him to 4 oz as that's all I'm really expressing a day. He still roots for the breast after though and sometimes I give it to him but he doesn't really eat - I feel like he's just comfort sucking and he's off pretty much in 5 minutes...does this mean 4 oz is enough?...I feel like if I were putting in 5 or 6 or even 12 ozs he might just keep eating (he's a big eater) just for the sake of it and because there is no interruption to the milk production with a bottle as there is with breast feeding (various let downs during one feed). I don't want to overfeed but I don't want him to feel hungry either? How do you know when enough is enough?</font></b><br /></li>
<li><b><font color="Green">As my LO grows and the breast milk changes to meet his needs does that mean that 4 ozs will still be enough for one feed? Or do I have to keep upping the ozs as LO grows like with Formula?</font></b></li>
</ol><br />
Sorry my questions are a bit long winded but I'm just new at expressing and a <b>BIG HATS OFF</b> :howdy: to all expressers especially those who solely express because it is SUPER hard work and dedication. I never realized how hard it would be and I'm not even doing it full time.</div>

Amelia is feeding pretty well. She's got a good latch and I think my milk is starting to come in areadly. <br />
<br />
We're very happy breastfeeding...BUT..<br />
<br />
F**K ME IT HURTS. I have to fight through the first few minutes but then it becomes more bearable.<br />
Last night she was feeding constantly because she hadn't fed much in the day, and it was so sore I had to give her a little formula so I could take a break.<br />
<br />
Will it always hurt at the start of a feed or does it get easier?</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I'm 24 weeks preggo and all my bras are already way too small. I've been looking to invest in some nursing bras but they are so UGLY! What makes it even more difficult is that I was a 32DD before getting pregnant, so now I think I'm at least a 32F. Where can I find an affordable, cute nursing bra in 32F?? <br />
<br />
Also, I know a lot of nursing bras don't have underwire but I used to work in lingerie at nordstrom and they taught us that underwire is where the majority of support comes from. So why don't nursing bras have underwire?</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi ladies. I had planned on BFing my baby until he was 12 mths old and then switching to cow's milk. It didn't go to plan because he doesn't get enough cow's milk for me to stop BFing. I haven't been in a rush to make the switch - I'm not going back to work and since 12 mths old he only had BF for his 2 naps and then at night time (before bed and once during the night).<br />
<br />
LO will drink from a sippy cup and soft touch beakers, but he's not keen on cow's milk. He won't drink EBM (never has), he won't drink from a bottle (never has), and I've tried all types of follow-on milk but he completely refuses to drink them. <br />
<br />
He now only has 1 daytime nap, and for the last week or so I've stopped BFing him for this so he is only BFing at bedtime and once in the night. He has adult porridge in the morning with a good portion of cow's milk, a standard sized yoghurt every day and some other dairy in other foods that are not a daily routine but figure fairly frequently (such as egg custard, rice pudding, angel delight). I figure he probably gets enough milk to go without his daytime feed but I can't see how I can get enough cow's milk or alternatives in his diet to drop his night BF.<br />
<br />
He has quite a small appetite and is under the 25th percentile for weight. He does have 3 meals plus one or two snacks a day, but the meals are quite small portions compared to the amount most of his baby friend's can put away. <br />
<br />
I would like to stop BFing because I am TTC and I'm approaching 37 so time is not on my side. I have my periods back but I have a short LP (9 days last month). I also want to stop BFing well before having another baby so that LO doesn't feel he's been pushed out, I don't want to combi-feed because I have supply issues as it is and have taken Domperidone for a year.<br />
<br />
How much milk does my LO need? He obviously comes first and I won't stop BFing until I know he is getting sufficient alternatives. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get him to drink milk or can suggest other alternatives? I have tried watering cow's milk down but he just drinks barely any, and he already gets constipated so I can't risk him drinking insufficiently.<br />
<br />
Sorry for long post, and thanks for any help.</div>

I'm mum to a 8 week old who cluster feeds from 8- midnight most nights! I'm at the end of my tether, most ofthe time I think she's not even getting any milk just sucking as she's going for that long there can't be anything coming out all the time. I've tried a dummy to suckle on instead of me but it made her gag and be sick :( I wouldn't mind as much if the cluster feeding meant a longer sleep but within 2hours she's up again wanting more. Shes a happy baby in the day smiley and thriving it's just the nights that are getting me down. No sleep is taking Its toll! We've also tried giving expressed milk to give mrs break but baby drank 3oz and wanted more which should have been enough for one feed? Any suggestions???</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Had my lovely daughter by C-Section on tuesday afternoon.<br />
<br />
She latched on fine initally and drank two good feeds that first evening and night.<br />
But she has also been quite mucusy.<br />
<br />
Yesterday she slept mainly all day had a feed at 0830 -0910, then 14.00 - 14.30, then 18.00 - 18.30.<br />
<br />
Since that very little, she is tricky to feed as will take one suck then fall asleep, so I was stripping her, tickling her feet, blowing on her face etc and that seemed to work.<br />
<br />
I also was using the rugby ball hold which she seems to like.<br />
<br />
Last night she screamed all night long, I tried to latch her on, she puts the nipple in her mouth and nothing! No suck, no lick she just looks at me!<br />
<br />
I feel at my wits end, took a walk to Boots and brought some pre-made milk, just in case, at least I know she'll have something in her belly, as my milk hasn't come in yet. I worry she's starving!! I haven't given it to her yet.<br />
<br />
Please help, any ideas, tips, suggestions.<br />
<br />
I feel a failure :nope:</div>

Caitlyn is nearly 13...</description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi all, dont post much in here but do occasionally pop in and could do with some advice from those who have done this - <br />
<br />
Caitlyn is nearly 13 months and since a nasty virus a couple of months ago has reverted to feeding more at night (before then we were getting to 1 night feed only) - she isnt eating much in the day (its a struggle to get 3 small meals into her) but can feed on average 3-4 times a night, although not all of those are proper hungry feeds and she can wake and want the breast as many as 7 times in a night! She has dropped on the weight scales from near 75th percentile (from birth to 10months) to well under the 50th at 12 months and Im concerned - my milk should not be her main source of nutrition now and I need to readjust this. Not only is she getting too much milk it means neither she nor I are getting a proper sleep. For me, being back in work, this really matters now - its beyond exhausting and frankly half the time Im probably not safe in the car I am that tired. <br />
<br />
My instinct is that she should be having a morning and a bedtime feed (she feeds to sleep) only now. <br />
<br />
So - dropping the night feeds - Caitlyn is a boob monster - she has always loved her milk so she will <b>NOT </b>be happy. HV advice is to just stop, and get the stress out of the way in a few horrible nights. Im aware that the first night at least she will be actually be hungry and from experience in other areas she is perfectly capable of screaming for hours on end if she doesnt get what she wants.<br />
<br />
Are there any ways of making this easier? I cant do this over several months - im at the point of exhaustion now and honestly im this close to refusing to feed her at all because im so tired and I need a nights sleep - Caitlyn has never slept through but she is much worse now than at, say, 8-9 months. :cry:<br />
<br />
Sorry for rambling post -basically - how can I do this so its the least stressful on Caitlyn, me and my DH (for whom C will not settle at night)<br />
<br />
All help appreciated <br />
<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>My LO wakes around 1am or 2am for a feed and I pick him up, change him and feed him. At around 5am I start to hear him fuss, just gentle murmurings, little squeaks, that type of thing. As my OH is gone for the day by then I generally see if I can doze a little longer as I'm not worried about disturbing his sleep. Should I be picking LO up then, when he first starts to fuss? Or should I be waiting until they're more vocal before giving him a feed? I don't want to create problems down the line.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I'll be going back to work four full days per week in April, LO will be 11 months. At the moment I'm trying to fill the freezer with enough EBM so OH will be able to feed her whilst I'm at work (we've managed to rearrange our schedules to avoid paying for childcare for now). I reckon I'll have enough pumped to last until she reaches a year when she can have cows milk during the day and BF as much as she wants when I'm home (I'm hoping my supply will regulate and not just dry up so that this will be possible).<br />
<br />
Anyway, this is what I had planned but I mentioned this to a HV at weighing clinic last week and she said LO should only need 3 BFs per day at that age, morning, around 5pm and bedtime and she can have water in between times. It's now only 7 or 8 weeks away and she feeds waaaaaaaay more than that now, I just can't see her dropping that many feeds. HV says I need to encourage her to drop feeds from now, this wasn't really what I wanted her to do, hence all the pumping.<br />
<br />
TBH I've heard the HV's give other Mums some odd advice so I'm not convinced on this one, does anyone have any advice or experience in this area?<br />
<br />
Thanks :flower:</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi,<br />
<br />
I went to a LC yesterday and she thinks I have nipple vasospasm. I have been constantly on ibuprofen for about 6 weeks now and went to see why BFing as still so painful. If it continues I will probably need to give up BFing, but every time I think of stopping I cry. <br />
<br />
Can anyone share any remedies that helped with alleviating the pain? The LC suggested heat pads. The internet has suggested fish oils, B vitamins, magnesium/calcium tabs. Have any of these actually worked for anyone?<br />
<br />
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks</div>

I have blanching when i get cold so may have circulation disorder? and my nipples are creased after feeding, new positioning didn't help. <content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I dont know If I should stop at 1 year or keep going. I was always breastfeeding my 1st. I was never able to leave him. I had to turn down a job opportunity because he couldn't be put down for a nap without being bfed. And he was a terrible sleeper so I had to be there to nurse him back to sleep again. This went on until we had to stop at 11 months due to my milk drying up because I was pregnant. Once he got used to living without the boob, he stopped waking up to be fed. He slept through the night and I felt relief. <br />
<br />
I know it sounds selfish but I don't wanna do that for 2 years! But I also want LO to continue having the benefits of bm. Is it even possible to continue bfing without LO needing it to sleep?</div>

all our symptoms (poor latch, painful nipples, breast not emptied properly, wind, etc) seem to agree with the diagnosis, buti'm just a bit concerned whether the snip can be an 'easy fix' and not actually necessary? <br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Or is it just a matter of a food allergy?<br />
<br />
He has been fussy since yesterday. He seems to have to really push out his bowel movements and struggles (writhes and looks to be straining) before having a bowel movement. <br />
<br />
He has also been having gas (I'm assuming it's gas because he calms after having some gripe water). He has spit up twice in the past two days (very unusual for him, he hardly ever spits up!). <br />
<br />
He has also been having kind of explosive bowel movements. Very watery, not very seedy and they range in colour from green to yellow to a darker yellow. He is having normal pees and is pooing his usual amount. It also sounds like he might have mucous in his chest/throat.<br />
<br />
Any insight?</div>

He will be 9 months old by then so it's impossible for me to know how many milk feeds he will have by then, but I'm hoping to bf him morning and night and pump inbetween hopefully, so that on the days I'm not working I would like to be able to exclusively breastfeed him if I can.<br />
So please if you could share you're schedules with me it would really help me and reassure me that it is achieveable! If you could include as many details as possible such as work/childcare/pumping/bfing/solid food routine to give me the biggest picture possible it would really help me!<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>forget signs of readiness. we're counting up the signs of un-readiness around here. i've got 10. what are yours?<br />
<br />
1. She has cleverly named your breasts after her favorite thing in the world. Herself! &quot;me me&quot;<br />
2. When you take your shirt off and sees your breasts, she screams &quot;me me (or whatever your LO calls them)&quot; with such enthusiasm you'd think she'd be reunited with a long lost friend.<br />
3. when daddy tells her it's time to go &quot;night night&quot; which around here is a threat that he is doing the routine tonight, she pounces onto the breast so quickly that you didn't see her move<br />
4. she wrote a song that she chants at random parts of the day &quot;me me&quot; &quot;me me&quot; &quot;me me&quot; and dances sometimes too<br />
5. she sometimes pulls your shirt up just to lay on your breast and kisses it with no intention to nurse<br />
6. the words &quot;mama&quot; and &quot;me mee&quot; are interchangeable to her. <br />
7. when she's tired she grabs your nipple and rubs it in her itchy sleepy eyes for comfort<br />
8. she kicks &quot;me me&quot; or stands on them occasionally and you're pretty sure this is a territorial thing based on the &quot;what? these are mine!!&quot; expression on her face<br />
9. you hide from her while getting dressed/undressed in fear that she will become hypnotized and that her alter ego (breast feeding monster) will manifest at any moment for the tenth random and unnecessary nursing fit of the day.<br />
10. you running around the house with a 30 pound child on your hip, one breast out, LO trying desperately to latch back onto it while you turn off something on the stove that is boiling over- is not an uncommon sight. <br />
(this is normal when she was a baby too, but well, she didn't weigh 30 pounds so it wasn't quite as ridiculous).</div>

<br />
now, she's perfectly happy, smilley and giggly, she's also just started sitting unsupported, we get lots of wet and dirty nappies, yet i'm a wee bit worried that she's so small and to me seems to have gained so little.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I'm returning to work when LO is 9 months old so I'm planning on bfing him morning and night then in the day giving him ebm while I'm at work.<br />
I was wondering though will he have to have the ebm in a bottle or can he have it in a sippy cup instead?<br />
I plan on introducing him to a sippy cup when he is over 6 months old.<br />
Is there any reason why he would need to be given milk in a bottle?<br />
I hope I don't sound too daft asking! Lol!</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I have been called away (last minute as usual) for a work course that i really want to go too. Obviously no children allowed so my hubby has taken the day off and is going to look after our 8 week old son. I was delighted until this morning when i started to prepare bottles for LO and i just cant express. This was 20mins of pumping for enough for a door mouse. :cry:<br />
<br />
Now i dont HAVE to go to this course but ive been waiting for an oppourtunity like this for awhile now and could result in more work opportunities :thumbup:<br />
<br />
I dont know whether to carry on trying to pump or give LO formula for the day. Hes had bottles before so that is not my worry. The formula is. I dont want to give it to him.<br />
<br />
Will it hurt for a day? <br />
<br />
I cant believe i can breastfeed all day every day if need be but i cant express even a little???????</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi, my daughter was born 23/1 weighing 6lb 12oz she was weighed on day 3 and had gone down to 6lb 6oz she was weighed on day 5 and 10 and still weighed 6lb 6oz. She was weighed yesterday (day 15) and was 6lb 8oz. The HV wants me to have her weighed next Tuesday and if she isn't up to 7lbs wants me to top up with formula. Other than slow weight gain she is a happy, healthy baby and feeds 1-3hrly and cluster feeds in the evening. I've had my latch checked by 3 people who say its fine. She has lots of wet nappys and at least 6 dirty nappies a day. She is also a very short, petite baby. I'm getting myself so stressed out we are enjoying breast feeding and she seems content so really don't want to go down the formula top up route if I don't have to.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Just got back from the HV and feel like crap :(<br />
<br />
My little girl is now on the 0.4th centile - HV was really worried as shes dropped from the 25th. She is 15 weeks and weighs just under 10lb.<br />
<br />
Really annoying because she's such a content little girl - she feeds every couple of hours in the day then sleeps through most nights (sometimes waking for one feed). Last night she went down at about 8pm, had a feed at 11pm then slept til 7.30am. <br />
<br />
HV couldnt understand it with how alert she is and her height is on 9th centile and head circumference on the 25th.<br />
<br />
On one hand I am really upset, disappointed and worried but on the other I have this amazingly happy little girl who I don't want to disrupt by trying to change our routine or switching to formula.<br />
<br />
To be honest I didn't expect to get this far breastfeeding and I have no problem going on to formula but I want to do it when I feel its right not when I am forced to.<br />
<br />
:shrug:</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Im pregnant with LO number 2 and still breastfeeding my little boy..<br />
His routine has been abit over the place the past week or so, so some days he's feeding 3 times a day or more..then other days i'll just manage to get him to feed before he goes to bed..<br />
Anyway..my breasts are so painful :( everytime i catch them i whince..theyre so sore and when i knock them the pain sometimes feels like stinging inside..<br />
I know sore breasts are normal but im wondering if those who breastfed while pregnant found they were considerably more painful? <br />
Im just concerned that as my LO hasnt been feeding to a regular pattern the past week or so if that could be causing me the pain..i dont want to end up with mastitis ect..or is it just the unfortunate ways of pregnancy..</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hiya :flower: I am pregnant with my second baby and wanted some honest advice/stories/experiences from those with a little one and a toddler. I couldn't breastfeed my toddler, despite all the help I received, my son would not Breastfeed (he even had trouble bottle feeding). I expressed for 5 weeks...but found the whole journey very hard emotionally and physically. I felt horrible and like a failure for not being able to Breastfeed. <br />
<br />
Now I am undecided if to pursue Breastfeeding with the second, as I have so many fears and have heard so many stories of newborns feeding for an hour at a time!! My biggest worry is trying to Breastfeed while having a toddler to look after on my own (our family is in Australia, so there is no one to help out occasionally). I worry I won't be able to take care of my toddlers needs if I constantly have a little one stuck on the breast. <br />
<br />
Can anyone share their honest experiences? I didn't want to post this in the Breastfeeding section...as I figured those who didn't BF or who gave it up early, wouldn't be roaming that section, and I wanted all stories, good or bad. <br />
<br />
Many thanks. Xxx</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>My poor 7 week old baby boy is just miserable.<br />
<br />
He's exclusively breast fed straight from the boob.<br />
<br />
I don't know what to do as he's constantly crying - pulls his legs up &amp; straightens them out in pain.<br />
<br />
Unlike my first son (who pooped 5 or 6 times a day) this little guy can go for anything up to a week before pooping.<br />
<br />
At the moment he is letting out the most horrific smelling 'eggy' wind. The last time he pooped was Friday (4 1/2 days ago).<br />
<br />
He nurses pretty frequently (roughly every two hours). But sometimes he only nurses for a few minutes before he starts screaming, pulling away but then wanting back on again??? I think this might be because he wants comfort from the wind pains?<br />
<br />
Can anyone help?</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I was not prepared at all for how hard bf was going to be at the start and am proud to say we're coming up to 3 months. <br />
<br />
Because I need structure to my day I tried feeding her on a 4 hourly schedule but I found it was too long between feeds so have changed things. <br />
<br />
Our day now goes like this:<br />
<br />
7:00-feed (sometimes bottle of EBM if I'm riding)<br />
8:30-9:15/30 nap<br />
10:00 feed<br />
11:15/30-1:00 nap<br />
1:00 feed<br />
2:30-3:30/4:00 nap<br />
4:00 feed<br />
6:00 bath, feed, bed<br />
10:00 dreamfeed<br />
<br />
She normally wakes for a feed around 4:00/4:30am. <br />
<br />
Reason i ask is that around 5:00 she starts to get grouchy and tired but I daren't let her nap Incase it affects her going down at 7 but I obviously don't want her to be upset. Any suggestions? <br />
<br />
After her feed we normally have a play/go for a walk etc.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I'm going insane here. :wacko:<br />
<br />
My LO is being so difficult on the breast! He keeps breaking his latch and re-latching. I figured it was because of gas and started burping him but nothing happened. He started rooting again when I put him down to rest so I fed him the other breast only to have him fuss and squirm the entire time and then fall asleep when he was on it! I tried burping him again and I didn't get anything. I laid him down and he vomited all over the place. I gave him some gripe water after that to help calm his stomach. Seemed to help a little. This is so frustrating though! I don't know how much he's eating and I can't tell if I'm underfeeding or overfeeding him. He's either dissatisfied or spitting up everywhere. I'm about to just say fuck it and move on to exclusively pumping, but he hates the bottle and I can't get him to suck on a pacifier to save my life. So far breastfeeding has not been fun for me and I'm not even at the two month mark. :nope:<br />
<br />
I want my LO to get the best start out of life and that's why I've been doing the best that I can with the situation but there is no pleasing this guy! :growlmad:<br />
<br />
Aside from this it is so hard getting him to sleep. He fights it like it's the plague.<br />
<br />
Sigh...</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi ladies,<br />
<br />
In order to try and fit everything into my day I want to try and express a bottle a day for my other half to do. <br />
<br />
I'm aiming to get up before my LO in the morning and pump a bottle (providing I get enough) <br />
<br />
I will sterilise the pump and teat first as I do the dummies and then pump directly into the bottle and feed within an hour. Presumably the milk wouldn't need warming nor refrigerating?<br />
<br />
Second bit of confusion, if this proves to work and I happen to be able to express enough to have one in the fridge (a just in case bottle) would it be safe to store in a sterilised bottle and keep in the fridge? For how long?<br />
<br />
Do you store with the teat on? Or sterilise one when you need it? <br />
<br />
If you don't get enough in one session, can you add milk to milk already in bottles in the fridge?<br />
<br />
Sorry just a bit muddled.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I am thinking of slowly weaning off the breast when my LO turns one...i am happy to carry on doing nap time/bedtime feeds for a while but I feel that if I dont start to reduce the feeds soon, she wont ever want to stop!<br />
<br />
At the moment she has feeds: 8.30, 12, 4, 7.30....and sometimes she wakes up in the night but this is getting less and less frequent! (touch wood)<br />
<br />
From your experiences, is it easy to just swap one feed at a time to cows milk? Did you use a bottle or beaker? Warm the milk first? Did your LO still fuss for the breast after the cows milk out of habit? <br />
<br />
Thanks!</div>

			<title>Interesting reaction to my BFing profile picture</title>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div><div class="alt2" style="

		border: 1px inset;
		width: 540px;
		text-align: left;
		overflow: auto"><script type="text/javascript">document.write(guestimage);</script></div><br />
<br />
I put the above picture up on my profile yesterday to support the women nursing at FB hq's. Mostly, I had positive reactions, but one person made this comment:<br />
<br />
&quot;Yes it is natural, doesn't mean I want to see it...lots of things are natural, and I don't want I see them either...and YES, I breast fed both my kids...&quot;<br />
<br />
How is this constructive? Doesn't this just show my point that BFing is seen as taboo?<br />
<br />
I'm sorely tempted to delete her from my Facebook.<br />
<br />
However, after her, I had this comment:<br />
<br />
&quot;I'm sorry but I agree with that person, there is nothing wrong with doing it in public but I don't really wanna see the pictures xx&quot;<br />
<br />
I think the above comment is much less tame. I can accept that someone doesn't want to see pictures of it.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>When your LO is feeding it sends signals to produce more milk, but is it specific to each breast or is it not that specific? My LO only seems to feed off my right breast for a short period and then will sit on left breast for ages, as such the right one is always a little fuller - I wonder if baby is trying to tell that boob to make less milk! Just so happens MY favourite boob is my right one, I always offer it first but he likes to hang out on the left which is always harder to latch!</div>

Mostly goes away once I'm not feeding, boob just feels tender and achy, kind if like te engorged feeling.. Cant see Anything wrong with the nipple...bi it I dark lol! <content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>DD has been sick for about 5 days now. For the last 3 days she has barely been nursing. My supply is really suffering. She is okay with what I have right now because she isn't really eating much, but I'm afraid if I don't do something about it that I'm going to loose it all together. I have went from being able to get 4 oz off each side to barely an ounce off both sides combined. I have a manual pump and I have been trying to pump but its not helping. I'm trying to get DD to nurse as much as possible but she just doesn't feel good and doesn't want to. The right side seems to be maintaining but the left seems like there is less and less. DD will only nurse on that side for a minute or two and once the milk is gone she refuses to nurse anymore on that side. What else can I do?</div>

<br />
I am trying to decide which milk to feed my baby. He is BF but during the day at nursery he likes to have a bottle of milk. I have been giving him Kara but his dietician said perhaps Oat milk would be better? However having looked I see Oat milk has more calories but Kara has more fat.<br />
<br />
What do you think? He is still BF the rest of the time.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>My baby is 9 days old now, and breastfeeding has been a bit up and down - she has tongue tie and I have a bit of over supply.<br />
<br />
Now I think we have thrush. She has little white spots all over her tongue. My nipples look normal but they have a burning pain and are very sensitive. She is fussing at the boob a lot and it's a battle to get her to latch (this has always been a bit of an issue due to the other problems but seems to be worse today).<br />
<br />
My health visitor is coming for her first visit tomorrow so I will ask her to look, but in the mean time is there anything I can be doing to ease this and get baby feeding properly?<br />
<br />
Also, we haven't registered the birth yet so she isn't registered with the GP - will they still see us? You have to make an appointment to register her so it will be next week at least and we can't wait that long.<br />
<br />
thank you</div>

			<description><![CDATA[My son is 3.5 weeks, and after a very rough start, we have been exclusively breastfeeding for 2 weeks, and he's gaining weight well. Still, I keep...]]></description>
			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>My son is 3.5 weeks, and after a very rough start, we have been exclusively breastfeeding for 2 weeks, and he's gaining weight well. Still, I keep asking myself if it's really worth it, and is it really benefiting him very much to go through this, or am I just doing it so I can wear a badge that says &quot;I breastfeed!&quot;<br />
<br />
I keep reading the reasons breastfeeding is better, and thinking a lot of them just aren't going in our favor.<br />
<br />
1. Breastfeeding is supposed to be easier. For us, it's not. I have flat nipples and we couldn't get him to latch without a nipple shield. The nipple shields are a pain in the butt though, and I'm trying to get rid of them, but he usually won't latch without it at first. Feeding time is a huge ordeal that I dread. I have to grab my nursing pillow, two burp cloths, my Latch Assist, and shield, and it's a struggle to get started. Milk goes everywhere, and he often fusses. This is a LOT harder than plunking a bottle in his mouth!<br />
<br />
2. Bonding. Again, no dice. I dread feeding times, and I get upset that I'm solely responsible for feeding the baby and my husband can't share the burden. I don't even have sore nipples anymore, but it's just such an ordeal that every time the baby is hungry I get so bummed and think &quot;oh god, not again already...&quot;<br />
<br />
3. Breast milk is easier to digest. Terrific! That means I get to feed him every 2 hours instead of every 4. And since it takes 3 times as long to nurse as it does to give a bottle, it means I get to spend the vast majority of my time feeding him. Just what I want to be doing when I'm running on little sleep and can't remember the last time I ate.<br />
<br />
4. Breastfed babies spit up less. Alas, my son didn't get the memo about this one. He is the spit up king! He spits up during feedings, after feedings, sometimes even 2 hours later - doesn't matter how much we burp him (he's terrible at burping on top of this). The doctor said since he's gaining weight well and it doesn't seem to bother him, that it's really just an inconvenience. Awesome. I'm sure he'd spit up just as much on formula, but I thought that was something we might be avoiding by breastfeeding - guess I was wrong.<br />
<br />
5. Breastfed babies are less likely to get diaper rash. Again, no one told this to my son. He poops 6-9 times a day, plus little wet farts that don't count as a poopy diaper but I'm sure irritate his bum. He's had a red bottom off and on for a couple weeks now and every time we think it gets better, it comes back.<br />
<br />
6. Breastfeeding is cheaper. After buying a $300 breast pump plus extra accessories, trying different nursing pillows to find what works for us, nursing bras, pumping bras, nursing pads, lanolin, numerous visits with a lactation consultant, bottles, etc, I'm not sure how huge the savings really are at the end of the day.<br />
<br />
7. Breastfed babies are sick less. Time will tell on this one, fortunately he hasn't been sick yet but he's only a few weeks old. The way things have been going I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being sick a lot. In contrast with my 4-year-old nephew, who was exclusively formula fed and didn't get sick once until he was 2 years old.<br />
<br />
So...why am I still going? I just keep trudging along because it's &quot;best&quot; - but is it really that big of a difference? Is it worth all the misery right now? Of course only time will tell for sure, but I worry that trying to fight with all of this to breastfeed is a selfish decision that's making things harder on me and my family, and a few years from now no one would know the difference.<br />
<br />
Surely I'm not the only one who has wondered if it's really worth it to continue...</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>God, me again. I'm SO sorry to KEEP asking questions but I really don't want to quit BF!<br />
<br />
My LO cluster feeds every night but he only stays on one breast for roughly 2-3 minutes before coming off at which point I offer him the other boob and we do this all night. I know cluster feeding is normal but for such a short amount of time on each breast? Does this mean I don't have enough milk? My breasts are completely soft and don't get hard again until around 2am.<br />
<br />
I'm really, really sorry to keep asking about this - I'm not normally this neurotic!</div>

Mine feeds about every 2 hours during the day. She's on for about 15-30 minutes per session. Seems a lot does it not? She always seems hungry.<br />

At night she sleeps for about 5 or 6 hours (from around 10pm until between 3 and 4am) and then it's back to the 2 hour schedule.<br />

<br />
I chose to BF LO, for the first three weeks she was feeding every 3/4 hours and her latch was good, however at week 3-4 she started feeding every 1-2 hours and by week six she was feeding every 20mins.<br />
<br />
I woke up one morning after a long four hor sleep to find my, boobs dry, i tryed for an hour to feed LO tono avail, so OH went to get some formula, i spent the next 3 days, pumping for twenty mins every hour to try get some milk and still nothing, DR/MW/HV were no help at all, saying these things happen :(<br />
<br />
I know I wasnt eating enough, LO was a cry baby and between feeding her, sleeping and soothing, i had time for one meal, and maybe a light snack during the day.<br />
<br />
Well in twelve weeks im due with our second, and really want to succeed wit BF.<br />
<br />
Any tips or advice?<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi, <br />
<br />
I gave birth to my daughter 3 days ago, and for the first two days, once we worked out her latching issues, breastfeeding was great. The lactation consultant at the hospital even commented on how I was producing a huge amount of colostrum. LO was feeding every few hours, and sometimes needed to be woken up for a feeding.<br />
<br />
Then yesterday she started demanding food every 20 mins or so! Last night DH and I literally got NO sleep--she would feed, but not for as long as she had been (maybe 5 mins/breast), and then a few minutes later was crying for more. We were both shattered. A friend suggested I try expressing with a pump to supplement, so I used the pump for the first time and...nothing! Or nearly nothing. Only a few drops of milk came out. I feel awful--we just didn't realize she wasn't getting enough food! We're now supplementing our feedings with a few ounces of formula, fed via a dropper; my DH seems convinced my milk just hasn't &quot;come in&quot; yet, and we need to be patient, but I'm worried we might have to go exclusively with formula. Neither of us want to start her on actual bottles unless necessary, though. <br />
<br />
My question is--has anyone experienced a gap between your colostrum &quot;leaving&quot; and your milk arriving? I'm just crushed by the idea that I might not be able to nurse my little girl--and I truly know that her being healthy and fed is the most important thing, but I can't help feeling like a bit of a failure. Btw--my breasts are rock-hard, tender (like little pin-pricks all over) and definitely fuller than they were before, so I'm just baffled by why there seems to be so little coming out :shrug:<br />
<br />
Any help/advice greatly appreciated! Thank you!</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>It's my birthday on saturday and I would quite like to have one or two cocktails. I am trying to express, but never manage to get that much out, despite having a v free flowing supply when I am feeding lo. Anyway, my question is, would it be awful to give the occasional bottle of formula? Would also like to leave her with my mum for a few hours at so,e point in the future. Would obvs express as much as poss, but could have formula waiting in case she drinks all the breast milk and is still hungry.<br />
<br />
Please don't give me any lectures on being selfish for wanting a drink. I've been pretty much tee total since finding out I was pregnant last April, would just like to have a treat (not get drunk) on my birthday :flower:</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>How do you get LO to go to bed when he's cluster feeding? My LO feeds every evening from roughly 4pm. My OH goes to bed at 9pm as he has a 5am start and I'd like to go to bed with him. I somehow manage to race through my own bedtime routine which has dwindled to just brushing my teeth now as when LO cluster feeds he will literally only give me 2 minutes before he is desperate for more. <br />
<br />
I will then sit with him in bed and feed him. He doesn't tend to get sleepy, so I just feed and feed him. Every so often I will try the dummy and try rocking/ssshing him but he gets all fussy so I go back to feeding. He is at this point on my breast for maybe a minute/two minutes before spitting it out or screaming and then rooting again so I try the other breast. He does the same thing and we repeat. Somehow each night I've managed to swaddle him with his dummy and put him in his basket with Ewan the dream sheep and he will go to sleep.<br />
<br />
I just wonder if I'm doing the right thing? I would try and feed him till he falls asleep but every time he appears sleepy he then wakes up 3 mins later and goes nuts for more food. I mean, am I wrong for trying to go to bed myself? <br />
<br />
I'm not asking about getting him into a routine as I know he's very young and I know (or hope) cluster feediing won't go on forever but does what I explain sound right? I feel like he would feed until the morning and my sanity can't handle that, I just need him to get to sleep at some point.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I realize I've messed up.... In the nursery they gave my daughter formula without asking me first to boost her sugar level... I had such a hard time getting her to latch and eat.. We gave her formula before we left the hospital. <br />
<br />
I tried breast feeding until she was 4 days old, but I would get so discouraged and just cry and cry and cry all day. I think I was getting bad depression from it. So we went and bought formula and bottles, and I decided to just give her formula and take the easy way out. <br />
<br />
We went to her 3 day check up at 5 days and the doctor told me I needed to breast feed her and made me feel crummy for not breast feeding her. My milk had just came in so I tried breast feeding again. <br />
<br />
She's now 10 days old, and I'm giving her breast milk and formula. I think she's gotten nipple confusion, and I think I've confused her bowels. She seems constipated at times, and other times it's runny...<br />
<br />
When I put her on the breast, she latches (usually) and she'll suck for a few minutes and then fall asleep. But as soon as I pull her off the breast she cries and goes to suck on her fingers and acts really hungry. I usually try and keep her awake, or wake her up when she falls asleep, but then she wants to nurse on and off until I break down and give her a bottle. I'm so close to just giving up and doing the formula thing, but I feel like an awful mommy. I hate this. Breast feeding makes me so depressed, but I don't want to give her formula either. <br />
<br />
I've also tried giving her a pacifier after nursing in stead of the bottle, and she's happy with that most of the time, but I feel like I'm starving her when I do that. I just need help.... :cry:</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>LO hasn't pooped since Tuesday (so 5 days ago). Prior to this he was going more frequently, gradually increasing the time between poops from every day. This ties in with us dropping down from 2,3+ bottles a day (mostly EBM, but formula when unable to express enough) to just one 3-4oz bottle of EBM in the evening. LO was a 14%weight loss with a double dip, unwell within the first week and my supply has been lousy as I have been well. <br />
<br />
Other than that, feeding well, settled, alert and plenty of wet nappies. <br />
<br />
When to worry? <br />
<br />
We where going to miss out the HV on Tuesday, but should I be getting him weighed if no poop?</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I have been breastfeeding for 9 weeks long story short,i ended up with an abcess. By the time I realised it wasnt a blocked duct(after 7 days of trying to shift it, as had done before and thats how long it took) I ended up in hospital with the pain to find it was an abcess and needed to be aspirated, alot of pus was removed(over 200mls) I had also been given anti biotics, I went for another two weeks after that n still no change so was aspirated at each hosp visit. The doctor advised I bottle feed if possible so i could take the stronger anti biotics. That was on tuesday and baby has been taking bottle/formula okay but he is upset nw anting my breast, am finding it very difficult to comfort him. I go to see the doctor again on tuesday, I have been lookign forward to it n hoping that i get the all clear n feed asap but now Iam worried if its not all ok n he advising me to continue with antibiotics, how long can you keep your milk without actually nursing? My supply seems to be dwindling already :'(</div>

I like the look of the theraline wynnie, has anyone used this? Is it better or worse than a widgey? Or a plain sausage pillow? Although the latter ones do seem too narrow to me. <br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>I've never posted one of these milestone threads because I always planned to continue feeding for longer than 16 months. However, at 27 weeks pregnant and with my little guy slowly losing interest, I'm not sure how much longer we're going to make it. As I changed my siggy to say 16 month breastfeeding milestone, I realized that there's a decent chance we won't make it to 17 months :cry: <br />
<br />
I'm sad that the end may be near, but I'm trying to see the situation for the amazing journey it's been. I had a breast reduction years ago and wasn't sure if I'd be able to breastfeed at all. I'm so lucky to have made it this far :cloud9: and I wouldn't change any of it. <br />
<br />
The tears in the early days of insane cluster feeding, the months of being tied to the pump, always smelling of curried maple (thank you fenugreek!), feeling trapped at times when I wondered if my bottle-feeding friends who could pass the baby off to anyone might have the right idea, having to defend myself to ignorant people, having to lug my pump to work on night shifts where I would pump instead of nap on my breaks.... all the things that were hard at the time have turned out to be some of my proudest memories. It turns out that these were just growing pains on my way to becoming the mom I am today.<br />
<br />
Who knows? Maybe he'll keep breastfeeding, but if the end is near, I'm going to try to view this not as a failure to meet my original goal, but as a milestone to celebrate. Thank you girls for all of the amazing support I found on this forum. Only 13 weeks until I get to do it all over again :happydance:</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Hi Ladies,<br />
<br />
I am after a bit of advice and some other peoples opinions and thoughts please!!<br />
<br />
I am returning to work next month and I am still breastfeeding my 11 month old son. My husband will bring him in to be fed halfway through my shift but although there are several quiet rooms available (they would need window dressings fitted and locks), I have been told the only room I can use for this is the baby changing room as they cannot be sure the other rooms will be vacant.<br />
<br />
I work in a busy city hospital and it is one of only a few baby changing rooms in the hospital and is located in a busy waiting room.<br />
<br />
Baby changing rooms stink and the thought of feeding my gorgeous baby in there makes me queasy and I am really not happy with it. There is no toilet in there just a couple of stinky bins, a changing tray and a basic armless chair. <br />
<br />
I think my boss already thinks I am a bit odd for still breastfeeding at 11+ months so don't want to rock the boat too much.<br />
<br />
Would anyone else have issues with this or am I just being overly touchy?! <br />
<br />
Thank you in advance for replies!! x x</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>My 11 week old is refusing expressed milk from all sources. We are trying to give a little so when I return to work she won't struggle. Still got a few months but keen to sort this if possible. We have tried 4/5 different bottles/teat sizes including the medula one which mimics breast feeding- but stubborn girl just pushes the teat out. Feel like we've tried the usual things- me hiding, Dad giving the bottle. This has been going on for several weeks now.<br />
Did anyone manage to convince their little one its a good idea with persistence or any other methods?<br />
1st baby happily switched between the two but neither of them ever considered entertaining a dummy. <br />
Not quite ready to just leave her until she gives in.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>after posting recently ona thred,saying that i had never had any problems brestfeeding i think i may have jinxed myself :(<br />
<br />
my lo has regularised (sp) his feeds but has for a couple of months now, he feeds before his morning nap, afternoon nap, before bed, once of twice during the night and once when he wakes.<br />
<br />
The problem is the beginning of the week i woke up to the right side of my boob swollen, hard and very painful.Feeding was painful too but i have heard the best way to beat it is to feed so on wednesday after constant feeding it was better. <br />
<br />
This morning i woke up again and it is agony! it is bright red and hard. I also have a small white blister on my nipple :( feeding is painful again but i am going to perservere! <br />
<br />
Anyway the problem is today i have been feeling very flu-like. shivering but with a temperature. I read online that mastitis is usually comonnon in early breastfeeding. Is it still possible after 7 1/2 months? or is it more likely just a coicential cold aswell as a blockage?<br />
<br />
Also i am not doing anything different, can anyone think of any reasons i am getting blockages all of a sudden? <br />
<br />
Thanks in advance for any advice :)</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>...about my weightloss. I thought it was due to breastfeeding but LO is over a year old and mostly only has two feeds in a day and they aren't big ones either BUT the weight is still coming off. Is this normal??<br />
I hadn't realised I was still losing till the other day getting changed I noticed my ribs showing through between my neck and bust. So I weighed myself and I'm 7st 9lb. I was 9st 2lb pre-pregnancy, 8st 8lb when LO was 3 months 8st 1lb when she was 6 months. I haven't been this weight since I was 19!!</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div>Just wanted to recommend them really! As you all know if you've read my many, many posts that I have had real problems breastfeeding - my latch hasn't been great but I've really struggled coming to terms with the demands of breastfeeding as I just didn't know anything.<br />
<br />
A volunteer came out to me 2 weeks ago and I was too tired and confused to really take anything in. Last night I was at the end of my rope, my nipples were on fire, I'd spent 6 hours feeding and LO was screaming for more and I just didn't know what to do. I texted the volunteer and she came out to me at 11am this morning and spent nearly 3 hours with me, going over and over the latch with my LO and answering my hundreds of questions. <br />
<br />
She has saved me (as well as the ladies on this forum but sometimes you just need someone in front of you showing you what to do!).</div>
