After Clomid - what next?

Hi ladies

I have just got my CD21 blood test results after my second course of Clomid, and yet again I havent OV.

I was just wondering what happens next, would it be IUI/IVF?

Dr is on holiday so cant call them, and I was just wondering what the next stage is likely to be

Hi Koobie,

Sorry clomid isn't working for u. My gynie told me that if I didn't ovulate on clomid, he would start giving me twice weekly injections to induce ovulation (stronger medication I think).

Whereas clomid has between 50-80% success rate at inducing ov (30% is a huge difference - which is it lol?), these injections have something like a 90% success rate at inducing ov.

Some people seem to skip this stage though and move on to IUI immediately so there are a few options. Don't give up yet xx

Thanks Mrs R, my Dr did mention IUI, but not sure how it would work if I dont OV.

The injections have a good success rate, I didnt realise it was that high!

Apparently so. They must be very strong though as I was told I had to have them done in hospital and be closely monitored.

But if that's what it takes to get us ovulating, so be it!!

I can't see them doing since you don't ovulate, the sperm would find no egg. I don't know much about the injections but when we discussed options with our doctor, he said that we would do clomid with IUI and if that was not successful, we would do IVF.

I've just finished my lot of Clomid too, with no affect.

My next course from my doctor is injectables. She said apparently injectables have a much better chance of making you ovulate than Clomid, so fingers crossed she's right.

I'd imagine your next course of action is Injectables solo, unless sperm results aren't ideal either, then they might do injectables in conjunction with IUI.

Clomid did not work for me either. They put me on injections of Follistim and that made me ovulate.

Hey Hun! I was just wondering what dosage of clomid are you taking? And another thing is, do you think maybe your ovulating later, maybe after CD21...The last 2 cycles on clomid my cd21 results have come back neg! No ovulation! But this month i still went and did my cd21 blood test and on CD 24 I took a opk and it came up as a very strong pos! So i called the dr and asked if it was possible for me to ovulating after CD21 and she yes and that i can also get a CD24 blood test done..So now i'm wondering if the last 2months i did ovulate but at a later date!

Hi there,

So sorry you have not managed to confirm you ovulation, I definitely think it is worth investigating if you are ovulating later than CD21.

I am also interested in what dosage of Clomid you have been put on.

I was put on 50mg (CD5-9) Clomid last year and was lucky enough to respond but only had one follicle and together with IUI it unfortunately didn't work but this month I have been on 100mg Clomid (CD5-9) and Gonal-F injections CD3, CD5, CD7 + CD9 and FS confirmed 4 follicles so I can definitely vouch for the injections working a lot better or it could be the combination.

Also find out if you need to go on a IUI waiting list or if you are going private find out the costs because it is definitely worth it, when just ovulating is so hard, knowing the sperm is there ready for the egg is one less thing to worry about!

Definitely don't give up

I just finished four months worth of Clomid, did not ovulate once, so when I went for my follow up they put me on a list for IVF/IUI. I, too, have no idea how IUI would work if you do not ovulate but I think there are other drugs they can try.
