Canadians + fertility drugs

You're probbly going to see a few posts from me as I have a lot going through my mind lately.

Was just wondering if any canadians (im in nova scotia) are taking fertility drugs?
How did you go about getting them?
How much do they cost?
Is any of it covered by health plans?
What kinds are there? What do they do?
If we dont get pregnant within the next month or so we are going to look into getting fertility drugs as our next option and then go from there after that. Thanks in advance. xx

When you meet with a fertility specialist they should be able to give you some answers about prices of drugs. I would be able to tell you what I'm paying in the United States. But, not sure how things work up there.

There are so many option too, it would be hard to know what they would put you on. I would imagine Clomid (which is cheap). But, it all depends on what they think the problem is.

I am only seeing an OB/GYN at this stage. He hasn't sent me a referral yet, so if I don't get the referral to a specialist (fertility clinic) then the visit comes out of my own pocket, if I get the referral, medical pays. Annoying!!!

All tests are covered for.

Fertility treatments are not covered by medical and most extended medical plans. When I buy my Clomid, I pay just over $30 for 5 pills. That is from Costco. I don't have the price of Prometrium isn't on my bottle so I don't remember how much that one cost. It does add up, and I am worried now that I have to go back because the 50mg pills didn't work...how much will the next stuff cost.

Do you have a Walmart up there? I pay $9.00 for the Clomid at Walmart. It's the same price at Target too. I don't know if you have those stores up in Canada.

Just thought I'd let you know!

It does have to be prescribed by a doctor. But, the pharmacy at Walmart has it for a more reasonable price than other pharmacies.
