High Testosterone

Hello Ladies,

i hope you dont mind me posting in this section too as you may have a little more experience than next door.

I had CD21 tests done in Dec and it showed that ovulation did or does take place but my testosterone is "on the high end of normal"

First of all does anyone know how that would affect fertility and whether weight loss would help?

The doc just left a message saying to get in contact after 12 months if we still have not concieved.

I have read that of course - weight loss couldnt hurt(!) and pepperment tea works wonders.

I was wondering if anyone else has this problem (the facial hair is horrible)
I have also lost 4 stone over the past 3 years (still lots to go though) and think the testosterone is a hangover from that.

Sorry for rambling on I find myself lurking more and more over here, I hope you dont mind!

Moragx

Sounds to me like you might have PCOS...

I did think that V, it certainly would explain a few things. I took heart from the fact that my periods are regular and that CD21 showed I was ovulating.

I am hoping more weight loss and peppermint tea(!) will improve my egg quality.

Thank you

Hi Morag

I'm no specialist but certainly sounds like PCOS, the weightloss will help no end. basically, testosterone/male hormones store fatty tissues and can sometimes cause an insulin resistance.

I have PCOS and have been on metformin (this is a diabetes drug but proven cases of assistance in over weight people who are ttc and have PCOS)for some time now, but the best bet to reduce the male hormone is to lose weight. It was explained to me that once my weight starts to reduce and metformin is helping to fight the testosterone for me, then i will be far more likely to "pop" an egg frequently.

The Metformin also a help for facial hair and skin tags too!

hope that helps

Thank you Nat,

The hair really gets me down, especially because I am naturally very pale so its a nightmare if I dont deal with it every day!

It will all be forgotten when we get our BFP's (hopefully)

PCOS doesn't automatically mean you don't ovulate, and I'm very glad that you do! Second natthecat - the weight loss will help immeasurably. My mother has PCOS, but she obviously ovulates - had three kids with no outside help. She has high testosterone levels, skin tags and extra hair too, though she is thin.

I hope both of you get you BFPs soon! Good luck!
