Does anyone know what causes an overstimulated follicle?

I had clomid from CD5 - CD9 and then went for IUI on the 4th November and was really convinced this was my month but alas it would seem my body is still not ready after my D&C in August and ERPC in September.

I went to my FS on Friday to find out about my IUI cycle this month and he said I have to sit this IUI month out because I have an overstimulated follicle.

Have any of you had an overstimulated follicle, do you think ovulation can still occure?

Do you think the over stimulation was caused by the Clomid or the HCG injection I had?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think over stimulation comes from the FSH drugs such as Gonal-F and clomid, rather than from the HCG. Maybe someone else here will know for sure for you...

I think the clomid would have caused the over-stimulation and I am surprised they gave you a HCG jab with it as this will definatly make you ovulate.

Thanks for the replies

My body responded normally to the treatment last month IUI date 4/11 but I was hoping to go for it again around 3/12 but I can't this month because my secondary folicle from last month is overstimulated. I have been prescribed Progesterone from CD10 - CD25 to help shrink it so I can do IUI around 30/12.

Have either of you had IUI?

My dr has put me on a daily folical stimulation injections (gonal F) along with another drug to prevent ovulation (gonapetyl) aparently this prevents over stimultion of the ovaries. I have 3 folicals getting ready to pop by the weekend! I've to go for a ultrasound on wednesday to monitor their progress.

I'm going through IVF right now - have my egg collection tomorrow (Tuesday). My FS advised us not to bother with IUI as the likelihood of success isn't much more than TTC naturally apparently. Sorry I can't be much more help to you. Good luck for your next cycle...

MrsT are you doing IUI or IVF? Three ready follicles sounds really good.

Maz, I read both your journal yesterday and I am so excited to see you get your bfp this cycle and it is just around the corner, good luck for tomorrow.

well neither! my dr suggested the gonal f injections rather than clomid, said it would increase my chances quicker. Hopefully good old baby dancing will fertilise one or two of my eggs in the next few day!
